This paper presents a new vibration control method for long-span bridges using complex damper system. The new system presents simple mechanical configuration with oil and elasto-plastic dampers which have velocity and displacement dependency in vibration energy absorbing. This system can produce various damping forces according to the applied external forces by the velocity and displacement-dependent characteristics of the dampers. The oil damper dissipates vibration energy for relatively frequent and small amplitude like in the case for small to moderate earthquakes, whereas the elasto-plastic damper system works for rare and large amplitude vibration such as high seismic excitation. Thus, the proposed system exhibits the advantage of low cost with high performance since the roles of the two different dampers are effectively separated. A numerical model is established for the complex damper system, and the response characteristics and effectiveness of the proposed system are presented through numerical simulations. Numerical results show that the proposed complex damper system can significantly improve the seismic performance of long-span bridge structures with much more effective damping mechanism than single conventional passive damper systems.
Springback is one of the most difficult phenomena to analyze and control in sheet forming. Most of traditional springback control methods rely on experiences of skilled workers in industrial fields. This study focuses on prediction and generation of optimum reconfigurable die surfaces to control shape errors originated by springback. For this purpose, a deformation transfer function(DTF) was combined with finite element analysis of the springback in the 2D sheet forming model of elastic-perfectly plastic materials under the condition without blank holder. The results showed shape errors within 1% of the objective shape, which were comparable with analytically predicted errors. In addition to this theoretical analysis, DTF method was also applied to 2D and 3D sheet forming experiments. The experimental results showed ${\pm}0.5$ mm and ${\pm}1.0$ mm shape error distribution respectively, demonstrating that reconfigurable die surfaces were predicted well by the DTF method. Irrespective of material properties and sheet thickness, the DTF method was applicable not only to FEM simulation but also to 2D and 3D elasto-reconfigurable die forming. Consequently, this study shows that springback can be controlled effectively in the elasto-RDF system by using the DTF method.
The deformation behavior of the excavated behind ground due to the displacement shape of retention walls is predicted by numerical analysis, which can be performed using the artificial displacement method with elasto-plastic constitutive model. The displacement shape of the behind ground around the retention wall is similar to the displacement shape of the retention wall. However, far from the retention wall, it changes to the displacement shape of cantilever. The deformation (the settlement, the lateral movement) of the excavated behind ground can be decreased by restraining the upper displacement of the retention wall. The displacement shape of the retention wall due to excavation affects on the plastic failure zone and decreasing zone of stability of the excavated behind ground.
Deformations of structures due to welding appear much complicated and deformated modes are also complex. As parameters governing deformations are various and effect of parameters on deformations is not well known, precise prediction of deformation due to welding has been a difficult problem. Until now, many research papers as to welding deformation have been published, but the research results can explain only one aspect of welding deformation have been published, but the research results can explain only one aspect of welding deformation and are hard to be used in reasonable prediction of welding deformations in complicated structures. In this study, based on the accumulated results concerning to welding deformations, a practical method to predict complicated welding deformations of large structure is proposed. A simplified model to estimate residual plastic strains is suggested and main parameters affecting residual plastic strains are shown to be heat input and joint restaints. Inherent strain theory and experimental data are combined with the finite element method and welding deformations of large structures are calculated by elastic analysis. Comparison of calculated results with experimental data shows the accuracy and validity of the proposed method.
In the present work, the evolution rules for the internal variables including continuum damage factors are obtained using the thermodynamic framework, which are in turn facilitated to derive the elastic-plastic constitutive relation for the particulate composites. Using the Mori-Tanaka scheme, the homogenization on state and internal variables such as back-stress and damage factors is carried out to procure the rate independent plasticity relations. Moreover, the degradation of mechanical properties of constituents is depicted by the distinctive damages such that the phase and interfacial damages are treated individually accordingly, whereas the kinematic hardening is depicted by combining the Armstrong-Frederick and Phillips' back-stress evolutions. On the other hand, the present constitutive relation for each phase is expressed in terms of the respective damage-free effective quantities, then, followed by transformation into the damage affected overall nominal relations using the aforementioned homogenization concentration factors. An emphasis is placed on the qualitative analyses for strain localization by observing the perturbation growth instead of the conventional bifurcation analyses. It turns out that the proposed constitutive model offers a wide range of strain localization behavior depending on the evolution of various internal variable descriptions.

Resource development is needed in order to develop the industry. However, because resources are running out, there is a growing interest in the arctic regions. If you want to develop resources in cold regions, it is necessary to understand the environment there and it should be a priority to secure proper technology for construction. In particular, thaw settlement, which frequently occur in Arctic regions, have a fatal effect on essential pipeline needed to transport resources. Therefore, it is important to analyze how piping will be impacted by thaw settlement. In this study, we developed 3-D FEM model in order to analyze the influence of the buried depth of the pipe at the time of thaw settlement. We analyzed a displaced pipe which is subjected to stress and considered Elasto-plastic, using the finite element analysis according to these Arctic environments.

Most of mechanically jointed aircraft structures are always encountered the fretting damages on the contact surfaces between two jointed structural members or at the edges of fastener holes. The partial slip and contact stresses associated with fretting contact can lead to severe reduction in service lifetime of aircraft structures. Thus a critical need exists for predicting fretting crack initiation in mechanically jointed aircraft structures, which requires characterizing both the near-surface mechanics and intimate relationship with fretting parameters. In this point of view, a series of fretting fatigue specimen tests for 2024-T351 Al-alloy, have been conducted to validate a mechanics-based model for predicting fretting fatigue life. And included in this investigaion were elasto-plastic contact stress analyses using commercial FEA code to quantify the stress and strain fields in subsurface to evaluate the fretting fatigue crack initiation.
The structure analyzed in this paper has particular building style and special structural system. It is a rigid-connected twin-tower skyscraper with asymmetrical distribution of stiffness and masses in two towers. Because of the different stiffness between the north and the south towers, the torsion seismic vibration is significant. In this paper, in order to study the seismic response of the structure under both frequent low-intensity earthquakes as well as rare earthquakes at the levels of intensity 7, the analysis model is built and analyzed with NosaCAD. NosaCAD is an nonlinear structure analysis software based on second-development of AutoCAD with ObjectARX. It has convenient modeling function, high computational efficiency and diversity post-processing functions. The deformations, forces and damages of the structure are investigated based on the analysis. According to the analysis, there is no damage on the structure under frequent earthquakes, and the structure has sufficient capacity and ductility to resist rare earthquakes. Therefore the structure can reach the goal of no damage under frequent earthquakes and no collapse under rare earthquakes. The deformation of the structure is below the limit in Chinese code. The time sequence and distribution of damages on tubes are reasonable, which can dissipate some dynamic energy. At last, according to forces, load-carrying capacity and damage of elements, there are some suggestions on increasing the reinforcement in the core tube at base and in stiffened stories.

Various soil behaviors usually occurring in the geotechnical problems, such as, cutting and embankments, stability of slope, seepage, consolidations, shearing failures and liquefaction, should be predicted and analyzed in any way. An approach of these predictions may be followed by the development of the constitutive equations as first and subsequently solved by numerical methods. The purpose of this paper is develop the constitutive equation of sands uder monotonic or cyclic loadings. The constitutive equation which is based on elasto-plastic theory, modified anisotropic consolidated stress parameter by Sekiguchi et al and Pender's theory is derived. And the equation is included a new stress parameter, hardening function, Bauschinger's effects and Pender's theory. The model is later evaluated and confirmed the validity by the test data of Ottawa sand, Banwol sand Hongseong sand. The following conclustions may be drawn: 1. The consititutive equation which is based on elasto-plastic theory, modified anisotropic consolidated stress parpameter by Sekiguchi et al and Pender's theory is derived. The equation in included a new stress parameter, hardening function, Bauschinger's effect and Pender's theory. 2. For Ottawa sand, the result of the constitutive equation shows a better agreement than that of Oka et al. The result of axial strain agrees well with the tested data. However, the result of horizontal strain is little bit off for the cyclic loadings or large stress. It is thought that the deviation may be improved by considering Poisson's ratio and precise measurement of shear modulus. 3. Banwol sand is used for the strain and stress tests with different relative densitites and confining pressures. The predeicted result shows a good agreement with the tested data because the required material parameters were directly measurd and determined form this laboratory. 4. For Hongseong sand, the tests under same amplitude of cyclic deviatoric stress shows a similar result with the tested data in absolute strain. It shows the acute shape of turning point because the sine wave of input is used in the test but the serrated wave in prediction.
The high precision analysis by the p-version of the finite element method are fairly well established as highly efficient method for linear elastic problems, especially in the presence of stress singularity. It has been noted that the merits of the p-version are accuracy, modeling simplicity, robustness, and savings in user's and CPU time. However, little has been done to exploit their benefits in elasto-plastic analysis. In this paper, the p-version finite element model is proposed for the materially nonlinear analysis that is based on the incremental theory of plasticity using the constitutive equation for work-hardening materials, and the associated flow rule. To obtain the solution of nonlinear equation, the Newton-Raphson method and initial stiffness method, etc are used. Several numerical examples are tested with the help of the square plates with cutout, the thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure, and the circular plate with uniformly distributed load. Those results are compared with the theoretical solutions and the numerical solutions of ADINA
