Soc.
This paper is concerned with the wave propagation behavior of rotating functionally graded temperature-dependent nanoscale beams subjected to thermal loading based on nonlocal strain gradient stress field. Uniform, linear and nonlinear temperature distributions across the thickness are investigated. Thermo-elastic properties of FG beam change gradually according to the Mori-Tanaka distribution model in the spatial coordinate. The nanobeam is modeled via a higher-order shear deformable refined beam theory which has a trigonometric shear stress function. The governing equations are derived by Hamilton's principle as a function of axial force due to centrifugal stiffening and displacement. By applying an analytical solution and solving an eigenvalue problem, the dispersion relations of rotating FG nanobeam are obtained. Numerical results illustrate that various parameters including temperature change, angular velocity, nonlocality parameter, wave number and gradient index have significant effect on the wave dispersion characteristics of the understudy nanobeam. The outcome of this study can provide beneficial information for the next generation researches and exact design of nano-machines including nanoscale molecular bearings and nanogears, etc.
Propagation of the generalized Rayleigh waves in an initially stressed elastic half-space covered by an elastic layer is investigated. It is assumed that the initial stresses are caused by the uniformly distributed normal compressional forces acting on the face surface of the covering layer. Two different cases where the compressional forces are "dead" and "follower" forces are considered. Three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in initially stressed bodies in plane-strain state is employed and the elasticity relations of the materials of the constituents are described through the Murnaghan potential where the influence of the third order elastic constants is taken into consideration. The dispersion equation is derived and an algorithm is developed for numerical solution to this equation. Numerical results for the dispersion of the generalized Rayleigh waves on the influence of the initial stresses and on the influence of the character of the external compressional forces are presented and discussed. These investigations provide some theoretical foundations for study of the near-surface waves propagating in layered mechanical systems with a liquid upper layer, study of the structure of the soil of the bottom of the oceans or of the seas and study of the behavior of seismic surface waves propagating under the bottom of the oceans.
This article is concerned with a two-dimensional problem of micropolar generalized thermoelasticity for a half-space whose surface is traction-free and the conductive temperature at the surface of the half-space is known. Theory of two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity with phase lags using the normal mode analysis is used to solve the present problem. The formulas of conductive and mechanical temperatures, displacement, micro-rotation, stresses and couple stresses are obtained. The considered quantities are illustrated graphically and their behaviors are discussed with suitable comparisons. The present results are compared with those obtained according to one temperature theory. It is concluded that both conductive heat wave and thermodynamical heat wave should be separated. The two-temperature theory describes the behavior of particles of elastic body more real than one-temperature theory.
A large floating structure is attracting great attention in recent years from the view of ocean space utilization. Its huge scale in the horizontal directions compared with the wavelength and relatively shallow depth make this type of floating structure flexible and its wave-induced motion be characterized by the elastic deformation. In this paper, a boundary integral equation method is proposed to predict the wave-induced dynamic response mat-like floating offshore structure. The structure is modeled as an clastic plate and its elastic deformation is expressed as a superposition of free-vibration modes in air. This makes it straightforward to expand the well-established boundary integral technique for rigid floating bodies to include the hydroelastic effects. In order to validate the theoretical analysis, we compare with the experimental result of previous model test. Satisfactory agreement is found between theory and experiment.
Slamming phenomenon may occur when a ship navigates a high sea region, where the response of ship can be expected as elastic behaviour and the resultant wave loads may increase. In this paper, numerical analysis of ship motions and wave loads including momentum slamming was performed using the strip theory with regular waves. In order to analyze the effect of slamming force on the global ship motions, time histories of each mode of displacement and forces were simulated by using Newmark-beta time integration scheme. The added mass and damping coefficients calculated by Lewis form method were compared with the results of given references. For verification of numerical results, the motion RAOs of a S175 containership were calculated as an example of application and time histories of respective displacement and vertical bending moment were compared with the results of ITTC workshop benchmark test.
This contribution presents an extended one-dimensional theory for piezoelectric beam-type structures with non-ideal electrodes. For these types of electrodes the equipotential area condition is not satisfied. The main motivation of our research is originated from passive vibration control: when an elastic structure is covered by several piezoelectric patches that are linked via resistances and inductances, vibrational energy is efficiently dissipated if the electric network is properly designed. Assuming infinitely small piezoelectric patches that are connected by an infinite number of electrical, in particular resistive and inductive elements, one obtains the Telegrapher's equation for the voltage across the piezoelectric transducer. Embedding this outcome into the framework of Bernoulli-Euler, the final equations are coupled to the wave equations for the longitudinal motion of a bar and to the partial differential equations for the lateral motion of the beam. We present results for the wave propagation of a longitudinal bar for several types of electrode properties. The frequency spectra are computed (phase angle, wave number, wave speed), which point out the effect of resistive and inductive electrodes on wave characteristics. Our results show that electrical damping due to the resistivity of the electrodes is different from internal (=strain velocity dependent) or external (=velocity dependent) mechanical damping. Finally, results are presented, when the structure is excited by a harmonic single force, yielding that resistive-inductive electrodes are suitable candidates for passive vibration control that might be of great interest for practical applications in the future.
Herein, the thermo-magneto-elastic wave dispersion answers of functionally graded (FG) double-nanobeam systems (DNBSs) are surveyed implementing a nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT). The kinematic relations are derived employing the classical beam theory. Also, scale influences are covered precisely in the framework of NSGT. Moreover, Mori-Tanaka homogenization model is introduced in order to obtain the effective material properties of FG nanobeams. Meanwhile, effects of external forces such as thermal and Lorentz forces are included in this research. Also, based upon the Hamilton's principle, the Euler-Lagrange equations are developed; afterwards, these equations are incorporated with those of NSGT to reach the nonlocal governing equations of FG-DNBSs. Furthermore, according to an analytical approach, the governing equations are solved to obtain the wave frequencies and phase velocities of FG-DNBSs. At the end, some illustrations are rendered to clarify the influences of a wide range of involved parameters.

The important effect of porosity on the mechanical behaviors of a continua makes it necessary to account for such an effect while analyzing a structure. motivated by this fact, a new two-step porosity dependent homogenization scheme is presented in this article to investigate the wave propagation responses of functionally graded (FG) porous nanobeams. In the introduced homogenization method, which is a modified form of the power-law model, the effects of porosity distributions are considered. Based on Hamilton's principle, the Navier equations are developed using the Euler-Bernoulli beam model. Thereafter, the constitutive equations are obtained employing the nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen. Next, the governing equations are solved in order to reach the wave frequency. Once the validity of presented methodology is proved, a set of parametric studies are adapted to put emphasis on the role of each variant on the wave dispersion behaviors of porous FG nanobeams.
The main objective of this article is the exploitation of a stochastic hybrid mesh-free method based on stochastic generalized finite difference (SGFD), Newmark finite difference (NFD) methods and Monte Carlo simulation for thermoelastic wave propagation and coupled thermoelasticity analysis based on GN theory (without energy dissipation). A thick hollow cylinder with Gaussian uncertainty in mechanical properties is considered as an analyzed domain for the problem. The effects of uncertainty in mechanical properties with various coefficients of variations on thermo-elastic wave propagation are studied in details. Also, the time histories and distribution on thickness of cylinder of maximum, mean and variance values of temperature and radial displacement are studied for various coefficients of variations (COVs).
