Topology optimization techniques have been developed as a very efficient design tool and utilized for design engineering processes in many industrial sections during the past decade. And topology optimization has become the focus into structural optimization design up to now. Recently, thermally actuated compliant mechanisms have a wide range of applications. In this research, the thermo-elastic problem is a coupled problem which has to consider heat transfer analysis and structural analysis. Hence, the thermo-elastic problem has to deal with heat transfer material properties and structural material properties at the same time. The numerical examples are presented. From the results, it was shown that in terms of the displacement after optimization. Moreover, this paper compared thermo-system, elastic-system with thermo-elastic system and was shown a good result of topology optimization while thermo-elastic system was used.

An analytical model has been developed to predict the elastic properties of a filled resin reinforced by chopped fibers, a three-phase composite such as a filled sheet molding compound(SMC). In the model the matrix material and fillers form an effective matrix. The effective matrix is then considered to be reinforced with long fibers lying in the sheet plane but randomly oriented in the plane. Expressions for the resulting transversely isotropic composite properties are explicitly presented. Using this model, the Young's and shear moduli are calculated for the SMC sample with filler weight fraction of 35% and fiber content of 30%. The same properties are also determined experimentally. The agreement between the calculated and measured elastic moduli is found to be very good for the in-plane properties. However, the out-of-plane properties show a large difference because the effect of voids is not taken into account in the model.

The various composite materials have been developed with the development of high strength material and the increasement of composite material usage. Therefore many researchers have studied about the stress analysis and the fracture mechanics for composite materials through the experiment or the theory. Among the experimental methods, the photoelastic experiments have been used for the stress analysis of the isotropic structures or the anisotropic structures. To analyze the stresses in the orthotropic material with photoelastic experiment, the basic physical properties ( $E_{L}$, $E_{T}$, $G_{LT}$ , .nu.$_{LT}$ ) and the basic stress fringe values ( $f_{L}$, $f_{T}$, $f_{LT}$ )are needed, therefore the relationships between the basic physical properties and the stress fringe values were derived in this paper. When the stress fringe value is very large, it was assured by the experiment that the relationships are established both in the room temperature and in the high temperature (T = 130.deg. C). Therefore the basic physical properties can be obtained from the relationships by measuring stress fringe values instead of measuring the basic physical properties.rties.

Most of the MEMS parts are made of multi-grain silicon wafer, which is the orthotropic material and its material direction is arbitrary. The reliability of the parts must be guaranteed in order to use for the commercial usage. The need of the structural analysis of its parts emerges an important factor. The material properties of the MEMS parts are calculated by the numerical method in order to reduce a material test. In this study, the effective elastic modulus and its Poisson's ratio are calculated by the boundary element method(BEM) and are compared with the results by the finite element method(FEM).

In this research work, free vibrations of simply supported functionally graded plate resting on a Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation are investigated by a new shear deformation theory. The influence of alternative micromechanical models on the macroscopic behavior of a functionally graded plate based on shear-deformation plate theories is examined. Several micromechanical models are tested to obtain the effective material properties of a two-phase particle composite as a function of the volume fraction of particles which continuously varies through the thickness of a functionally graded plate. Present theory exactly satisfies stress boundary conditions on the top and the bottom of the plate. The energy functional of the system is obtained using Hamilton's principle. The closed form solutions are obtained by using Navier technique, and then fundamental frequencies are found by solving the results of eigenvalue problems. Finally, the numerical results are provided to reveal the effect of explicit micromechanical models on natural fundamental frequencies.
This paper presents an analysis of the bending, buckling and free vibration of functionally graded sandwich beams resting on elastic foundation by using a refined quasi-3D theory in which both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects are included. The displacement field contains only three unknowns, which is less than the number of parameters of many other shear deformation theories. In order to homogenize the micromechanical properties of the FGM sandwich beam, the material properties are derived on the basis of several micromechanical models such as Tamura, Voigt, Reuss and many others. The principle of virtual works is used to obtain the equilibrium equations. The elastic foundation is modeled using the Pasternak mathematical model. The governing equations are obtained through the Hamilton's principle and then are solved via Navier solution for the simply supported beam. The accuracy of the proposed theory can be noticed by comparing it with other 3D solution available in the literature. A detailed parametric study is presented to show the influence of the micromechanical models on the general behavior of FG sandwich beams on elastic foundation.

The material property of the rubber has been studied in order to improve the reliability of the finite element model of a lead rubber bearing (LRB) which is a typical base isolator. Rubber exhibits elastic behaviour even within the large strain range, unlike the general structural material, and has a hyper-elastic characteristics that shows non-linear relationship between load and deformation. This study represents the mechanical characteristics of the rubber by strain energy function in order to develop a finite element (FE) model of LRB. For the study, several strain energy functions were selected and mechanical properties of the rubber were estimated with the energy functions. A finite element model of LRB has been developed by using material properties of rubber and lead which were identified by stress tests. This study estimated the horizontal and vertical force-displacement relationship with the FE model. The adequacy of the FE model was validated by comparing the analytical results with the experimental data.
In this paper, the equivalent elastic properties of fiber reinforced plastic laminar are investigated using various homogenization schemes. Although there are several methods for predicting the equivalent elastic properties such as analytical formula or semi-empirical formula, most of them have some limitations or are not much accurate when handling new composite material consisting of various fiber, matrix and fiber-volume fraction ratio. To resolve the issues, computational homogenization scheme is adopted with a representative volume element (RVE) comprised of a set of finite elements. Finally, the equivalent elastic properties are obtained by applying periodic boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with those by the existing methods and test results. Also its effect on structural analysis results of the composite satellite panel is investigated.

Thermal problems that are directly related to the lifetime of an electronic device are becoming increasingly important owing to the miniaturization of electronic devices. To solve thermal problems, it is essential to study thermal stability through thermal diffusion and insulation. A honeycomb sandwich plate has anisotropic thermal conductivity. To analyze the thermal deformation and temperature distribution of a system that employs a honeycomb sandwich plate, the thermal and elastic properties need to be determined. In this study, the thermal and elastic properties of a honeycomb sandwich plate, such as thermal conductivity, coefficient of thermal expansion, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, and shear modulus, are predicted. The properties of a honeycomb sandwich plate vary according to the hexagon size, thickness, and material properties.
Statement of problem : The various kinds of properties of post and core may affect the stress distribution to the root of endodontically treated teeth Purpose: To evaluate the influence of various kinds of properties of post and core to the stress distribution to the root of endodontically treated teeth. Material and methods: Mandibular first premolar, prepared by general shape of post and core with gold crown, was used to two dimensional axisymmetric modeling for finite element analysis. Then property values of 8 different kinds of post and core was substituted for each. Finally, stress distribution shown areas around the root of post and core was analysed after applying 50N of vortical and oblique load. Results: 1. Stress value of oblique load was much higher than the maximum stress value of vertical load. 2. Under oblique load, very concentrated stress was located on post periapical area and variations in stress were very severe. Contrary to this, stress distribution was relatively uniform in vertical load. 3. Post materials with higher elastic modulus showed relatively more apically focused stress, and post materials with lower elastic modulus showed stress focused on cervical area on the axial wall of post. 4. Stress change according to the properties of core was shown only in the cervical area of post and below core as the higher elastic modulus, then increased in stress. 5. Post and core with medium value of elastic modulus showed relatively uniform stress distribution. Conclusions: Post materials with higher elastic modulus showed relatively more apically focused stress, and post materials with lower elastic modulus showed stress focused on cervical area on the axial wall of post. Stress change according to the properties of core was shown only in the cervical area of post and below core.
