Effects of Participation in a Forest Therapy Program on the Ego-resiliency and Interpersonal Relationships of Children Requiring Protection (산림치유 프로그램 참여가 보호대상아동의 자아탄력성 및 대인관계에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of participation in a forest therapy program on ego-resiliency and interpersonal relationships to strengthen the independent capabilities of children requiring protection. The participants were divided into two groups: the experimental group (n=87; age, 16.40±1.90 years) and control group (n=90; age, 16.97±1.39 years). The study was conducted from July to August 2020. The experimental group participated in a forest therapy program operated by the National Center for Forest Therapy, Yeongju, for 2 nights and 3 days, whereas the control group lived routine life. The participants' ego-resiliency and interpersonal relationships were tested at the beginning and end of the forest therapy program. In the experimental group, ego-resiliency was improved and interpersonal relationships were significantly altered. Therefore, forest therapy programs may serve as effective interventions that can positively affect the social adaptation and growth of protected children into healthy adults.

Intergenerational Transmission of Mother-Daughter Attachment and Unmarried Adult Daughter's Ego-Resiliency (모녀애착의 세대 전수와 성인 미혼 딸의 자아탄력성)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the intergenerational transmission of mother-daughter attachment across three generations, and to determine whether the mother-daughter attachment of three generations influences the adult daughter's ego-resilience. The subjects of this study were 310 unmarried adult women aged 20${\sim}$29, residing in the Busan area, and their 310 middle-aged mothers. The mothers responded to two sets of questionnaire investigating their attachment to their mothers (G1-G2) in the past and the present attachment to their adult daughters (G2-G3). Meanwhile, the adult daughters were given questionnaires regarding their attachment to their mothers and their ego-resiliency. The measurements used for this study were the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) and the Ego-Resiliency Scale (ER). Among the distributed questionnaires, 265 sets were collected and 252 sets were actually analyzed using SPSS 12.0 after 13 sets had been excluded due to incomplete data. Basic statistics were used such as frequency analysis, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical regression analysis. The study results were as follows. First, the adult daughter-mother (G2-G3) attachment was explained mostly by mother-grandmother (G1-G2) attachment, daughter's age, and economic status of the family. The strongest factor was the mother-grandmother attachment which implies the transmission of attachment through generations. Second, among the factors that influenced the ego-resilience of an unmarried adult daughter, attachment to one's mother perceived by the daughter turned out to be the most significant. Especially, the more positive the adult daughter's emotion toward her mother and the higher the daughter's education, the stronger the ego-resilience of the adult single daughter was. It was concluded that the mother-daughter attachment remained consistent throughout three generations, which influenced the social-psychological adjustment of the adult unmarried daughter.

  • The aim of this study is to search for a direction to reduce adolescents' mobile phone dependency. The fourth data for 4th graders who were 1,972 of 7th from the 2013 Korea Children & Youth Panel Survey were used. SPSS 21.0 was used. In addition, the mediating effects of ego-resiliency and gender-moderating effects between positive parenting attitude and mobile phone dependency were analyzed through descriptive statistics, data analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results found the followings: Positive parenting attitude increased ego-resiliency while lowering mobile phone dependency. Ego-resiliency had a negative influence on mobile phone dependency and mediating effects between the two variables. Gender had a moderating effect between two variables. Based on the above results, this study suggested a direction to cope with the problems which can result from the excessive use of mobile phone for both parents and their children.

Psychosocial Factors Influencing Anxiety Symptoms in Patients With Hypertension (고혈압 환자에서 불안증상에 영향을 미치는 정신심리학적 요인)

  • Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of anxiety symptoms and its association with psychological factors in patients with hypertension. Methods : The Participants included 124 patients with hypertension. Anxiety symptoms were evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Socio-demographics, perceived stress, state-trait anger, life satisfaction, and ego resiliency were assessed. Stepwise multiple regression analyses were carried out to examine the impact of perceived stress, state-trait anger, and life satisfaction on anxiety symptoms. In addition, moderated regression analysis was performed to explore the moderating effect of ego resiliency between perceived stress and anxiety symptoms. Results : A total of 17 subjects (13.7%) were identified as having anxiety symptoms. Higher perceived stress and state-trait anger, and lower life satisfaction were found to be significant correlates of anxiety symptoms. In the final model, higher levels of perceived stress (β=0.378, p<0.001) and trait anger (β=0.320, p<0.001) were related to higher levels of anxiety symptoms, while a higher level of life satisfaction (β=-0.166, p=0.025) was associated with a lower level of anxiety symptoms. Further, ego resiliency buffered the negative effect of perceived stress on anxiety symptoms. Conclusion : This study demonstrated the prevalence of anxiety symptoms and associated psychological factors among patients with hypertension. Our findings suggest that improving life satisfaction and ego-resiliency as well as controlling stress and anger may be important in the management of anxiety symptoms in patients with hypertension.

The Influence of Perfectionism and Ego-resiliency on Anxiety by Leisure Activity in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 여가활동에 따른 완벽성과 자아탄력성이 불안에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the effects of perfectionism and ego-resiliency on the anxiety in two groups of nursing students: leisure activity, and no leisure activity group. A total of 134 undergraduate students were recruited at two universities in A and B cities, Korea using the convenient sampling method. They were asked to complete a self-reported questionnaire for 11 days in October, 2015. The results showed that there were significant differences in the ego-resiliency (t=-3.80, p=.001) and anxiety (t=3.71, p<.001) according to the leisure activity. In the subjects who did not have leisure activities, perfectionism (${\beta}=.71$, p<.001) and ego-resiliency (${\beta}=-.29$, p=.003) were identified as significant predictors of anxiety and this model explained 58.0% of the variance in anxiety (F=34.50, p<.001). In the analysis according to the classification of current leisure activity, Perfectionism (${\beta}=.54$, p=.003) was identified as a significant predictor of anxiety in subjects doing travel watch and pastime amusement, and this model explained 26.0% of the variance in anxiety in nursing students (F=5.66, p=.009). Therefore, providing strategies to control anxiety can not only improve ego-resiliency, but also reduce perfectionism among nursing students. In addition, it is necessary to resolve the disturbance factors of the leisure activity and create an environment that promotes leisure activities in universities.

The Effect of Happiness Sharing Kumdo Class Participating Adolescents' Achievement Goal Orientation on Ego-Resiliency and Quality of Life (행복나눔검도교실에 참여하는 청소년의 성취목표성향이 자아탄력성과 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to Happiness Sharing Kumdo Class Participating Adolescents' achievement goal orientation on ego-resiliency and quality of life and to provide guidance measures for the correct growth of vulnerable participants through the happiness sharing Kumdo class, which will be activated as a sports support program. To achieve the purpose of this research, 236 Adolescent participating in the Happiness Sharing Kumdo Class was selected and surveyed in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and Incheon. Based on the data collected, the following results were derived by conducting frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. First, verification of the effect of achievement goal orientation of Adolescent participating in Happiness Sharing Kumdo Class on ego-resiliency showed that task-orientation has significant influence on diversity, future-orientation, and emotion control, and ego-orientation has significant influence on diversity and emotion control. Second, verification of the effect of achievement goal orientation of Adolescent participating in Happiness Sharing Kumdo Class on quality of life showed that task-orientation has significant influence on quality of physical, psychological, social, environmental and educational quality, and ego-orientation has a significant influence on quality of physical and environmental quality. Third, verification of the effect of ego-resiliency on quality of life by Adolescent participating in Happiness Sharing Kumdo Class showed that diversity has not significant influence all factors of quality of life, but future-orientation has significant influence on quality of psychological and environmental quality, and emotion control has a significant influence on quality of physical, psychological, social and educational quality.

Relationship between experiential activity and ego-resilience, sense of community, and school life adjustment of middle school students (중학생의 체험활동과 자아탄력성, 공동체의식, 학교생활적응간의 관련성)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between experiential activity, ego-resilience, sense of community, and school life adjustment of middle school students and to provide the basic data that can contribute to the activation of experiential activities. Methods: 2,351 middle school students of panel survey conducted by National Youth Policy Institute were used in the final analysis. The structural equation model(SEM) was carried out to analyze structural relationships between experiential activity and ego-resilience, sense of community, and school life adjustment of the youth. IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 and IBM SPSS AMOS 20.0. were used for the analysis of all data. Results: Experiential activities had a statistically significant positive effect on ego-resilience(p<0.001), school life adjustment(p<0.05), and the sense of community (p<0.001). Especially experiential activities acted on ego-resiliency, a sense of community, school life adjustment as an important parameter. Sense of community also showed to be an important mediating role between ego-resiliency and school life adjustment. Conclusions: In order to maximize the effectiveness of experiential activities, it is necessary to build the community networking enough to take full advantage of community resources and develop various experiential activities to meet the needs of youth and social change.

Convergence Analysis of the Factors Influencing Core Competencies on Disaster Nursing among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 재난간호 핵심수행능력에 미치는 융합적 영향요인)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to identify the factors influencing the nursing students' core competencies on disaster nursing. Methods: A sample of convenience was 224 nursing students, and a questionnaire was used to measure their disaster awareness, disaster preparedness, ego-resiliency, and core competencies on disaster. Results: A significant positive correlation was found among core competencies, disaster awareness, disaster preparedness, and ego-resiliency. Disaster preparedness(${\beta}=.413$), grade of which the participant was in(${\beta}=.165$), satisfaction on clinical practice(${\beta}=-.160$), ego-resiliency(${\beta}=.159$), and disaster related education experience(${\beta}=-.120$) were significant predictive variables of which accounted for 38.5% of the variance in core competencies. Conclusions: The results from this study can be used to develop programs for core competencies on disasters nursing.

An Influence on Adolescents' Fandom Activities (청소년 팬덤활동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims firstly to examine whether adolescents' life satisfaction influences their fandom activities, then to analyze whether the influences of ego resiliency and peer relations on fandom activities vary by adolescents' life satisfaction and how, if they do, and finally, using multi-group analysis, to identify whether there are gender differences in their fandom activities. The results are as follows: Firstly, as adolescents' life satisfaction is lower, their involvement into fandom activities are increased. Secondly, peer relations and ego resiliency has different relations to fandom activities, that is the former have indirect impact on fandom activities. Ego resiliency has both direct and indirect influence on fandom activities, that is adolescents who have higher ego resiliency participate more actively into fandom activities and this influence is mediated by life satisfaction. Finally, the degree of participation into fandom activities depends of adolescents' gender, that is girls involve in fandom activities more actively. One consistent finding of this study is that fandom activities are negatively related to life satisfaction. The results of this study show that more various programs to enhance life satisfaction, self respect and peer relations of adolescents are necessary to facilitate healthier culture of adolescents.

Validation of the Motivational Self-Concept Rating Scale for Child Care Teachers (보육교사를 대상으로 한 동기부여적 자아개념척도 타당화 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to redefine and validate the motivational self-concept for child-care teachers. Based on related researches, items were remodified to be good enough to use for studying child-care teachers' motivational self-concept. Redefined items were analysed by factor analysis and validated by use of child-care teachers' professional recognition and their ego-resiliency. Researchers have garnered data from 321 child care teachers as convenience samples who are engaged in child care centers in Seoul and Kyunggi province by using questionnaire research methods. We have eliminated questions that are .40 below communality, questions by conducting exploratory factor analysis. As a result, 6 factors and 23 items were selected; 6 factors have indicated that it explained 77.12% of total variate motivational self-concept rating scale and ${\alpha}$ of Cronbach that of total items indicated acceptable level. After examining relevancy of child-care teachers' professional recognition and ego-resiliency to verify compliant feasibility of the motivational self-concept rating scale, the relation between motivational self-concept and professional recognition was .604(p<0.001) indicating significant static correlation and the relation between motivational self-concept and ego-resiliency was 4.456(p<0.01) indicating significant static correlation. Through this result, it is verified that motivational self-concept rating scale has compliant feasibility in professional recognition and ego-resiliency.
