Methods: The study was conducted with elderly patients with mild dementia in Day Care Centers in D city. The patients were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group and were assessed for cognitive function, depression, and ego integrity using pre-test and post-test designs. A digital group reminiscence program was applied to the experimental group. Data was collected from July 5 to September 17, 2021, using questionnaires in three sessions. Results: The pre-test cognitive function score was 12.00 in the experimental group and 11.09 in the control group. The post-test cognitive function score was 19.20 in the experimental group and 14.42 in the control group. The later cognitive function score was 18.00 in the experimental group and 13.31 in the control group. The pre-test depression score was 8.32 in the experimental group and 9.91 in the control group. The post-test depression score was 6.05 in the experimental group and 8.82 in the control group. The later depression score was 6.94 in the experimental group and 9.02 in the control group. The pre-test ego integrity score was 41.39 in the experimental group and 39.55 in the control group. The post-test ego integrity score was 57.95 in the experimental group and 51.41 in the control group. The later ego integrity score was 55.88 in the experimental group and 42.15 in the control group. Cognitive function, depression, and ego integrity showed significant differences according to group (p<.05), time (p<.001), and interaction between group and time (p<.01). Conclusion: The digital group reminiscence program was found to be effective in improving cognitive function and ego integrity and reducing depression in elderly patients with mild dementia. Further research is needed to explore the effects of repetitive digital group recall programs based on the progress, course, age, and communication level of dementia.
In this study, we investigated the effects of ego integrity on QoL(Quality of Life) of elderly living alone, where we focused on moderating role of SF36 health factors. To investigate the cause and effect of factors, we purposively collected 282 samples from senior welfare centers in Jeonju city and exploited reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) for 265 cases excluding some cases with missing values. As the results, first, we confirmed ego integrity was positive predictor of QoL. Second, it was proven that the effect of ego integrity on QoL of elderly living alone was stronger in the lower physical functioning group than higher physical functioning group. Third, we also verified that the group with more difficulties in activities or work as a result of poor physical health showed higher effect of ego integrity on QoL. Based on the results, we could explain the reason of conflicts regarding how elderly's health influenced on ego integrity. Also, in the practice of intervention to elderly's problem, we found the health factors could be an indicator of direction or effect of the intervention

Method: The subjects of this study were composed of elderly women(age 65 and older) living alone who had basic literacy skills, 24 or higher in mental state examination(MMSE-K), and 6 or higher in elderly depression(GDS). 29 women were randomly assigned into an experimental group(cognitive behavioral therapy), a comparison group(reminiscence therapy) and a control group. The experimental group and the comparison group retrospectively participated in a 90-minute therapy session twice a week for a total of 12 weeks. The effectiveness of the program was assessed through a pretest, posttest, and 2-month follow-up test. The data collected were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Results: The main findings of this study are as follows. First, at posttest ego-integrity and self-esteem marked higher scores in both of the experimental group and the comparison group than in the control group, but the experimental group marked comparatively higher scores than the comparison group. For dysfunctional attitude, only the experimental group showed lower scores compared to the comparison group and the control group. Second, at posttest depression marked lower scores in the experimental group compared to the comparison group and the control group. Third, at posttest problem-solving and support-seeking coping strategies marked higher scores in the experimental group compared to the comparison group and the control group. Fourth, the significant improvements remained at 2-month follow-up test. Conclusions: Cognitive behavioral therapy resulted in improvements of the ego-integrity and related symptoms of depressed elderly women living alone at posttest and 2-month follow-up test respectively.
In this study, death preparation was used as an independent variable, with ego integrity as successful aging used as a dependent variable while depression and death anxiety were used as mediate variables. The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences of the study variables according to the demographic characteristics of the research subjects, and to create a database for developing and improving current educational programs and welfare services to help the elderly achieve successful aging. Two hundred and eighty three elderly people above the age of sixty in Cheongju city were given standardized questionnaires, and the collected data were analyzed. The results of this study are the following. First, the differences of the study variables according to the level of education, health, economy, and social involvement of the elderly are statistically significant. Second, there exists a positive relationship between mental preparation for death and ego integrity (successful aging) while there is no such relation in case of formal preparation for death and ego integrity. Third, depression and death anxiety of the elderly partially mediate ego integrity, which leads to successful aging.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of the Group Reminiscence Counseling on ego integrity, depression and death anxiety of the institutionalized compared to the home stay elderly. The control group consisted 13 who matched in D city. The experimental group was provided with group 60 minutes session once a week during 16 weeks. The results of this study were first, the experimental group showed higher statistically significant mean scores than control in ego integrity. second, the experimental group showed lower statistically significant mean scores than control in depression and death anxiety. Based on the above results, elder's ego integrity was improved, elder's depression and death anxiety were decreased after reminiscence counseling. it is expected that the group reminiscence counseling can be used as one program to improvement the psychological well-being of the elderly.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure the relationship among activities of daily living, ego integrity, social support and the compliance of patient-role behavior in elderly patients receiving hemodialysis, including the effect of these variables on the compliance of patient-role behavior. Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted with 150 elderly patients over 65 years of age who were also receiving hemodialysis. Data was collected from September 28 to November 13, 2021 and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 26.0. Results: The results show that patient compliance had significant correlations with ego integrity (r=.63, p<.001) and social support (r=.28, p=.001). The other factors influencing patient compliance were the sub-domains of ego integrity, such as the acceptance of the past and the presence (β=.46, p<.001) and attitudes toward life (β=.26 p<.001), with an explanatory power of approximately 35.0% (F=17.21, p<.001). Conclusion: This study confirms that the ego integrity of elderly patients receiving hemodialysis has an effect on the compliance of patient role behavior. Nursing intervention programs that improve the ego integrity of elderly hemodialysis patients could help improve the compliance of patient-role behavior, which is an important factor in the disease management process.
