  • To investigate the effects of Mo addition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al_2O_3$ ceramics, two kinds of Mo particles with average sizes of 2-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 6-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were used as additives. It was shown that Mo particles inhibited the grain growth of Al_2O_3$, and the smaller Mo particles were more effective. In case of 2-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ Mo dispersion, the bending strength and the fracture toughness were increased. Dispersion of 6-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ MO did not increase the strength but improved the fracture toughness a little. The toughening mechanisms of Al_2O_3$-Mo composites are thought to be the crack deflection and microcracking mechanisms.

  • Effects of sintering conditions such as sintering temperature and heating rate on oxygen content, density, microstructure and toughness of sintered Mo were investigated. The oxygen content of the sintered Mo significantly depended on the sintering conditions. The oxygen content of the primary sintered(below 1673 K) Mo influenced the densifications. The number of pores at grain boundaries of the secondary sintered(at 2073 K)Mo depended on the oxygen content of the primary sintered Mo. Grain growth of the secondary sintered Mo was inhibited by the existence of pores at the grain boundaries. The secondary sintered Mo having larger number of pore and smaller grain size demonstrated higher strength.

  • The effects of sodium molybdate(Mo) on phospholipid metabolism in sciatic nerve isolated from lead-intoxicated rat were investigated. Four weeks aged albino rats were divided into four groups : normal control group, lead(10 ppm)-treated group, Mo(1 mg/kg)-treated group, lead and Mo-treated group. As a result of the study, Mo significantly increased the rate of incorporation of $2-[^3H]$myo-inositol into polyphosphinositides in lead-intoxicated rat. Mo also increased the rate of phosphatidylcholine metabolism in normal and lead-intoxicated rats. However, Mo did not affect the metabolism of phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanola-mine in normal and lead-intoxicated status. These results suggest that Mo might improve lead-intoxicated status by principally enhancing the metabolism of myo-inositol-related phospholipids and by partly phosphatidylcholine in sciatic nerve.

  • In order to elucidate the effects of co-existing additives (S$_{8}$, TBP: Tri butyl phosphate, ZnDTP: Zinc-dialkyl dithiophosphate) and the role of reacted surface film on the friction behavior of MoDTP (molybdenum dialkyl dithiophosphate), a friction experiment using a dual circular pipe edge surface type friction tester and XPS (X-ray photoelectronic spectrum) surface analysis were conducted. Friction reduction with MoDTP lubricant was proved to be greatly influenced by co-existing additive species. It was dependent on the properties of the film formed through the reaction between the additive and the surface. Phosphate film reduced the friction coefficient of MoDTP through suppression of diffusion of Mo compounds towards the metal substrate. On the other hand, sulfate film, which is inherently rich in lattice defects, did not lead to any appreciable friction reduction with MoDTP since the diffusion of the Mo compound towards the metal substrate was not effectively suppressed. With ZnDTP additive, the sulfide film formed through decomposition greatly influenced the lubricating performance of MoDTP. As such, properties of surface films formed from additives were proved to yield significant influence on the lubrication performance of MoDTP.

  • Two dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) semiconductors are attractive materials for optoelectric devices because of their direct energy bandgap and transparency. To investigate the feasibility of transparent p-n junctions, we have fabricated a p-n heterojunction consisting of p-type WSe2 and n-type MoS2 flakes since WSe2 and MoS2 with proper electrode metals exhibit p-type and n-type behaviors, respectively. These heterojunctions exhibits gate-tunable rectifying behaviors and photovoltaic effects (ECE ~ 0.2%) indicating that p-n junctions were formed. In addition, photocurrent and photovoltaic effects were observed under light illumination, which were dependent on the gate voltage. In addition, the photocurrent mapping images indicate that the photovoltaic effects comes from the junction area. Possible origins of gate-tunability are discussed.

  • Activated charcoal supported nickel molybdenum carbide (carburized Ni-Mo/AC) catalysts were prepared by wet-impregnation followed by temperature-programmed carburization using 20% $CH_4/H_2$ gas. The effects of pH and initial Ni/Mo mole ratio during wet-impregnation step on the characteristics of the carburized Ni-Mo/AC catalysts were investigated using ICP, XRD, XPS, BET and $CO_2$-TPD techniques, and correlated with the catalytic activity of the carburized Ni-Mo/AC in methane dry reforming reaction. Comparison of the results of methane dry reforming reaction kinetics with the results of characterization of the carburized Ni-Mo/AC catalyst showed that the catalytic activity in methane dry reforming reaction was higher at higher initial Ni/Mo mole ratio or at lower pH(3~natural value). This phenomenon was related to the crystal size of metallic Ni in the carburized Ni-Mo/AC catalyst.

  • Effects of Mo and Si addition in Cr underlayer on magnetic properties of CoCrTa/CrMo and CoCrTa/Si thin films media were investigated. Thin films were prepared with DC magnetron sputtering system. The thickness of CoCrTa magnetic layer and Cr underlayer were fixed at 300 $\AA$ and 700 $\AA$, respectively. The substrate heating temperature was kept constant at 26$0^{\circ}C$ for both magnetic layer and underlayer preparation. The coercivity increase of CoCrTa film was realized due to Mo addition in Cr underlayer. Si addition made a small decrease in coercivity. Coercivity increase seems to be attributed by the improvement of preferred orientation of Cr(200) plane. It is found that lattice fit between Cr(200) and CoCrTa(1120) of CrMo underlayer is better than that of CrSi underlayer. This small misfit may also contribute coercivity increase.

  • Spheroidal graphite cast irons which are Fe-3%C-(4-6)%Si-(0-0.5)%Mo were studied to improve not only heat resistance but also mechanical properties. With increasing Mo content, the graphitization was decreased and carbide volume fraction was increased. The graphite spheroidization ratio was not decreased in Fe-3%C-6%Si-Mo system cast iron with increasing Mo content, but that was decreased in Fe-3%C-4%Si-Mo system and Fe-3%C-5%Si-Mo system cast irons. Hardness was increased with the Si and Mo contents. At constant Si content, tensile strength was increased with increasing Mo content, but that was decreased at 6%Si. In the experiment of oxidation, weight gain was decreased as the Si and/or Mo content increased, but increased at 1.5%Mo content.

  • Mechanical properties of austempered ductile iron can be guaranteed if a good knowledge of its metallugical structure is obtained. In this paper, the effects of small Mo additions to austempered ductile iron on its metallurgical structures as a function of section size are examined. From the results, it is found that ${\gamma}-pool$ region and segregation of Mo in ${\gamma}-pool$ region are increased with increase in the section size.

  • In this study, we investigated effect of Mo addition on mechanical properties of Cu added ADI. Ductile cast iron specimens were austenitized at $900^{\circ}C$ for 150 min and then austempered at $380^{\circ}C$ for the various time periods from 15 min to 480 min. Mo added ADI had a higher volume fraction of retained austenite, and the volume fraction of retained austenite was determined by XRD analysis. As decreasing volume fraction of retained austenite, the elongation was also decreased as expected. But the UTS and yield strength were not decreased.
