Scattering center extraction schemes for radar cross section reduction of large complex targets, like warships, was developed, which are an 1-D radar image method(range profile), and a direct analysis based on an object precision method. The analysis result of partial dihedral model shows that the presented direct analysis method is more efficient than the 1-D radar image method for scattering center extraction of interested targets, in terms of radar cross section reduction design, not signal processing. In order to verify the accuracy of the direct analysis method, a scattering center analysis of an naval weapon system was carried out, and the result was coincident with that of another well-known RCS analysis program. Finally, an analysis result of RCS and its scattering center of an 120m class warship-like model presented that the direct analysis method can be an efficient and powerful tools for radar cross section reduction of large complex targets.

An optimum design process of the broad-band multi-layered radar absorbing material, using genetic algorithm, is established for the radar cross section reduction of a complex target, which consists of multiple reflection structures, such as surface warships. It follows the successive process of radar cross section analysis, scattering center analysis, radar absorbing material design, and reanalysis of radar cross section after applying the radar absorbing material. It is demonstrated that it is very effective even in the optimum design of the multi-layer radar absorbing material. This results from the fact that the three factors, i.e.. the incident angle range, broad-band frequencies, and maximum thickness can be simultaneously taken into account by adopting the genetic algorithm.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the stress-strain behavior of confined concrete columns with rectangular section. Uniaxial concentric loading tests of nineteen concrete columns with rectangular section ($150{\times}100$, $250{\times}100$, $350{\times}100\;mm$) were conducted. The main variables are transverse reinforcement volumetric ratio and spacing, cross tie arrangement, cross-section aspect ratio, and concrete strength. From the present experiments, it was found that the increase of transverse reinforcement ratio increases the maximum stress and ductility ratio and the reduction of the spacing of transverse reinforcement also increases the ductility and effective confinement. The increase of the aspect ratio of the cross-section does not influence much the stress-strain behavior of rectangular columns within the aspect ratio range of 3.5. The effect of concrete strength on ductility is also discussed.
Recently, fast-growing up railway transportations. Because, regional traffic congestion problem solving and a period of rapid expansion to meet the demand of industries. In addition the government also suggest to new paradigm for the future 'Low Carbon, Green Growth' is presented as a new national vision. To meet the social needs and the time demands, Last of the railway increase very long tunnels and huge deep tunnels. Especially this trend accelerated high speed up in the tunnel, the revision of design criteria and research challenges are being actively improved. Mainly in the tunnel cross-section was under the control of the vehicle train speed 150km/hr by the construction of the vehicle cross-section of the tunnel. More than 200km/hr rail tunnel depending on the vehicle's speed caused the tunnel to the pressure fluctuations will be governed by the aerodynamic changes. Considering the economy to ensure the optimum cross-section of the railway tunnel to the description scheme is selected cross-section of the railway tunnel to determine the size domestic or international railway tunnel for the elements((based on fast Algorithm design criteria, the center line spacing, streetcar line, cross-sectional shape, sectoral issues, such as interface and aerodynamics) based on design practices and to review results. In this study, to propose guidelines depending on the size of a railway tunnel cross section for the size of the determining reasonable factors when designing the railway tunnel and cost-effective standards guidelines.
Crash box is one of the most important automotive parts for crash energy absorption and is equipped at the front end of the front side member. The specific characteristics of aluminum alloys offer the possibility to design cost-effective lightweight structures with high stiffness and excellent crash energy absorption potential. This study deals with crashworthiness of aluminum crash box for an auto-body with the various types of cross section. For aluminum alloys, A17003-T7 and A17003-T5, the dynamic tensile test was carried out to apply for crash analysis at the range of strain from 0.003/sec to 200/sec. The crash analysis and the crash test were carried out for three cross sections of rectangle, hexagon and octagon. The analysis results show that the octagon cross section shape with A17003-T5 has higher crashworthiness than other cross section shapes. The effect of rib shapes in the cross section is important factor in crash analysis. Finally, new configuration of crash box with high crash energy absorption was suggested.
This study focuses on analysis and comparison of entropy generation in various cross-sectional ducts along with fully developed laminar flow and constant uniform wall heat flux. The obtained results were compared in ducts with circular, semicircular, and rectangular with semicircular ends, equilateral triangular, and square and symmetrical hexagonal cross-sectional areas. These results were separately studied for aspect ratio of different rectangular shapes. Characteristics of fluid were considered at average temperature between outlet and inlet ducts. Results showed that factors such as Reynolds number, cross section, hydraulic diameter, heat flux and aspect ratio were effective on entropy generation, and these effects are more evident than heat flux and occur more in high heat fluxes. Considering the performed comparisons, it seems that semicircular and circular cross section generates less entropy than other cross sections.
xIn the present work, we explored the effect of the radiation on the effective impact parameter for capture in a fully general relativistic manner. To summarize our results, evidently due to the radiation drag (the Poynting-Robertson effect), critical impact parameter of point particle gets larger by the factor of two, thus, the effective cross section of the luminous relativistic star becomes 4 times larger than that of the star without radiation emission. In addition, the finite size effect of the star adds up to this growth of the effective cross section.
A new approximation method was proposed for treating the non-resonant spatial self-shielding effects of double heterogeneous region such as the double heterogeneous effect of VHTR fuel compact in the thermal energy range and that of BP compact with BISO. The method was developed based on the effective homogenization method and a spherical unit cell model with explicit coated layers and a matrix layer. The self-shielding factor was derived from the relation between the collision probabilities for a double heterogeneous compact and the effective cross section for the homogenized compact. First, the collision probabilities and transmission probabilities for all layers of the spherical model were calculated using conventional collision probability solver. Then, the effective cross section for the homogenized sphere cell representing the homogenized compact was obtained from the transmission probability calculated using the probability density function of a chord length. The verification calculations revealed that the proposed method can predict the self-shielding factor with a maximum error of 2.3% and the double heterogeneous effect with a maximum error of 200 pcm in the typical VHTR problems with various packing fractions and BP compact sizes.

Background: Heat energy produced in nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel cycle facilities interactions modifies the physical properties of the shielding materials containing water content. Therefore, in the present paper, effect of the heat on shielding effectiveness of the concretes is investigated for gamma and neutron. The mass attenuation coefficients, effective atomic numbers, fast neutron removal cross-section and exposure buildup factors. Materials and Methods: The mass attenuation coefficients, effective atomic numbers, fast neutron removal cross-section and exposure buildup factors of ordinary and heavy concretes were investigated using NIST data of XCOM program and Geometric Progression method. Results and Discussion: The improvement in shielding effectiveness for photon and reduction in fast neutron for ordinary concrete was observed. The change in the neutron shielding effectiveness was insignificant. Conclusion: The present investigation on interaction of gamma and neutron radiation would be very useful for assessment of shielding efficiency of the concrete used in high temperature applications such as reactors.

Steel structural elements with web-tapered I cross section, are usually made of welded thin plates. Due to the nonrectangular shape of the element, thin web section may be obtained at the maximum cross section height. The buckling strength is directly influenced by lateral restraining, end support and initial imperfections. If no lateral restraints, or when they are not effective enough, the global behaviour of the members is characterized by the lateral torsional mode and interaction with sectional buckling modes may occur. Actual design codes do not provide a practical design approach for this kind of elements. The paper summarizes an experimental study performed by the authors on a relevant number of elements of this type. The purpose of the work was to evaluate the actual behaviour of the web tapered beam-columns when applying different types of lateral restraints and different web thickness.
