The Relationship Between Static Cone Penetration Resistance and the Reference Stress in Sandy Soils (사질토 지반에서의 정적관입저항과 기준응력과의 관계)

  • In the analysis of the static cone penetration resistance or the point resistance of end bearing piles, the vertical effective stress has been chosen as the reference stress. However many reported experimental results indicate that the cone tip resistance is dependent rather on the in -situ horzontal stress than the vertical effective stress. To clarify this point, published experimental results have been re-evaluated and the laboratory penetration tests have been performed. From the results it is concluded that the cone tip resistance is influenced by both the vertical effective stress and the horizontal effective stress. It is further concluded that the mean normal stress should be used as the reference stress in the analysis.

  • We have studied how the characteristics degradation between effective mobility and field effect mobility of gate channel in p-MOSFET's affects the gate channel length being follow by increased stress time and increased drain-source voltage stress. The experimental results between effective and field-effect mobility were analyzed that the measurement data are identical at the point of minimum slope in threshold voltage, the other part is different, that is, the effective mobility it the faster than the field-effect mobility. Also, It was found that the effective and field-effect mobility. Also, It was found that the effective and field-effect mobility of p-MOSFET's with short channel are increased by decreased channel length, increased stress time and increased drain-source voltage stress.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the anti-stress effects of Walgukhwan, Walgukhwan+Ejintang and Wal gukhwan+Samultang. The experimental animals treated with each extracts during 15 days before the immobilization stress. And each experimental animals were endowed with 12 hours immobilization stress. Then the brain, blood and urine catecholamine contents and serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and free fatty acid levels were studied. The result were as followed; 1. Walgukhwan, Walgukhwan+Ejintang and Walgukhwan+Samultang were not statistically effective to the changes of the body weight. 2. Walgukhwan was statistically effective to the increase of the blood norepinephrine content as compared with control. 3. Walgukhwan+Ejintang was statistically effective to the increase of the blood and urine norepinephrine contents as compared with control. 4. Walgukhwan+Samultang was statisticallv effective to the increase of the brain, blood and urine norepinephrine contents and also to the increase of the blood and urine dopamine contents as compared with control. 5. Walgukhwan was statistically effective to the increase of the serum free fatty acid level as compared with control. 6. Walgukhwan+Ejintang was statistically effective to the increase of the serum triglyceride and free fatty acid levels as compared with control. 7. Walgukhwan+Samultang was statistically effective to the increase of the serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and free fatty acid levels as compared with control.

Effect of Stress History on CPT-DMT Correlations in Granular Soil (응력이력이 사질토의 CPT-DMT 상관관계에 미치는 영향)

  • Stress history increases in penetration resistance due to the increase in residual horizontal stress of granular soil. This study analyzes the effect of stress history on the results of CPT and DMT from calibration chamber specimen in OC as well as NC state. Test results show that the normalized cone resistance by mean effective stress correlates well with the relative density and the state parameter, whereas the normalized cone resistance with regard to vertical effective stress is a little affected by stress history. The horizontal stress index($K_D$) in DMT more reflects the influence of stress history on granular soil than the dilatometer modulus($E_D$) and cone resistance($q_c$). The $K_D/K_0$, in which the effect of stress history on $K_D$ is compensated by the at-rest coefficient of earth pressure, $K_0$, is related to relative density, state parameter and the normalized cone resistance by mean effective stress. It is also observed that the normalized dilatometer modulus by mean effective stress($E_D/{\sigma_m}'$) is unique correlated with the state parameter, regardless of stress history.

Three-dimensional Stress Analysis of Implant Systems with Micro Threads in the Maxillary Bone (다양한 마이크로쓰레드(Micro thread)의 개수를 가지는 임플란트의 상부구조물 형상과 하중조건에 따른 3차원 유한요소해석을 이용한 하악골의 응력분포에 관한 연구)

  • A comparative study of stress distributions in the maxillary bone with three different types of abutment was conducted. Finite element analysis was adopted to determine stress generated in the bone with the different implant systems with micro threads (Onebody type implant, Internal type implant, and External type implant). It was found that the types of abutments and the number of micro threads have significant influence on the stress distribution in the maxillary bone. They were due to the difference in the load transfer mechanism and the size of contact area between abutment and fixture. Also the maximum effective stress in the maxillary bone was increased with increasing inclination angle of load. It was concluded that the maximum effective stress in the bone was the lowest by the internal implant among the maximum effective stresses by other two types of implants and by appropriate number of micro threads, and that the specific number of micro thread was existed to decrease the maximum effective stress in the maxillary bone due to different implant systems and loading conditions.

  • The B value on the saturated soil is commonly known as the amount of 1. Usually this concept is consistent with the condition that effective stress is equal to zero, but it was reported in some literatures that the B value was less than 1 in spite of saturated condition in the test of very stiff material such as rock and quasi-stiff material on which the stiffness can be mobilized because of effective stress not equal to zero. In this study the B value was measured on various effective stress conditions on normally consolidated clay. The test results in the B value less than 1 in spite of perfect saturation. The measured excessive pore water pressure was not only smaller than the change of the total stress, but also the function of time on clay.

Unsaturated Effective Stress Based on Water Retention Characteristics for Triaxial Tests of Silty Sand (실트질 사질토의 삼축시험 시 함수특성에 따른 불포화 유효응력)

  • Suction stress is evaluated from soil water retention curves in order to deduce effective stress in unsaturated soils. $K_0$ consolidated triaxial tests were performed for silty sand to interpret effective stress in consolidation and shearing of unsaturated soils. Suction stresses from both consolidation stress and shear strength in triaxial tests were compared with those from soil water retention curves. The effective stresses on consolidation and shear strength are on each unique line, which are the same as that of the saturated case. It was found that the effective stress from soil water retention curves agrees with those from consolidation and shear strength in triaxial tests.

  • It is known in some literatures that the B value is not equal to unity in saturated soil when effective stress is given, in which the B Value is the ratio of measured excess pore water pressure and isometric loading pressure. In this study the B value was measured on various effective stresses and on various incremental loading stresses in various grain size of specimens with saturated sand. The test results showed that the B value was affected largely by grain size of sand in specimen and the amount of effective stress. There was the semi-logarithmic relationship between B value and effective stress, and also there was the linear relationship between the gradient of the former semi-logarithmic relationship and grain size of specimen.

  • Shear wave velocity of uncemented soil can be expressed as the function of effective stresses when capillary phenomenons are negligible. However, the terms of effective stresses are divided to the direction of wave propagation and polarization because stress states are generally anisotropy. The shear wave velocities are affected by parameters and exponents that are experimentally determined. The exponents are controlled contact effects of particulate materials(sizes, shapes, and structures of particles) and the parameters are changed contact behaviors between particles, material properties of particles, and type of packing(i.e., void ratio and coordination number). In this study, consolidation tests are performed by using clay, mica and sand specimens. Shear wave velocities are measured during consolidation tests to investigate the stress-induced and inherent anisotropies through bender elements. Results show the shear wave velocities depends on the stress-induced anisotropy for round particles. Furthermore the shear wave velocity is dependent on particle alignment under the constant effective stress. This study suggests that the shear wave velocity and the shear modulus should be carefully calculated and used for the design and construction of geotechnical structures.

  • The hypothesis on effective stress of unsaturated soil is validated by $K_0$ consolidation results of triaxial tests for the compacted residual soil. The stress characteristic curve (SSCC) can describe unsaturated soil behavior on water contents, which was defined from shear strength or from soil water characteristic curves. In this study, it was found that the stress path of $K_0$ consolidation can also define the SSCC. The effective stress was defined by SSCC. $K_0$ paths for various matric suctions could be described as a unique line by effective stress. The measured values of $K_0$ were interpreted by effective stress as a constant with respect to matric suction. Since the SSCC from $K_0$ consolidation agrees with that from the shear strength, the SSCC from soil water retention curve could describe effective stress behavior consistently on both $K_0$ consolidation path and stress at failure. The effective stress based on SSCC can describe the entire unsaturated behavior from consolidation to failure.
