  • In today's brand apartment ads, the image of high-tech apartment seeking consumers' convenience thanks to the introduction of ubiquitous and the image of nature-friendly apartment stressing consumers' well-being life have become a main stream. However, it seems that there lacks differentiation in expressing ad images, except some brands. This may also be related to the matter of providing effective communication, which is the ultimate goal of advertisement. Therefore, to suggest the effective communication methods of brand apartment ads, this study semiologically translated first the images thai recent brand apartment ads present, and then in order to review whether these images are properly delivered to consumers, this study conducted the image survey for brand apartment ads with 123 subjects, who are the group of design professionals. As a result, the survey showed that, in the semiological translation of ad expression, meaning sharing is made when ad concept and ad image are semiologically consistent, and it showed that the realization of successful ad communication between advertisers and consumers is possible, which starts from this kind of meaning sharing. Based on the results of this study, we could know that the introduction of semiology into ad planning can be a logical judgment criterion to provide effective ad communication.

  • The aim of this paper is to explore various ways to utilize critical thinking in engineering education. To this end, this paper, in the light of the relationship between critical thinking and the program learning performance of ABEEK, reviews engineering design education, engineering ethics education, and engineering communication education, which are major areas where critical thinking can be utilized in engineering education. As a result, it was confirmed that critical thinking skills, especially the elements and criteria of critical thinking, can contribute to the creative problem-solving process in engineering design education, the rational decision-making process in engineering ethics education, and the effective communication process in engineering communication education.

  • Success of communication at sea is directly linked with clear and complete delivery and receipt of the target message between interlocutors. It can be said that speakers' effective delivery of their intended message and listeners' precise decoding and accurate understanding are the keys to successful maritime communication. From this perspective, the scope of maritime English education and training needs to be reconceptualized and expanded into the area of communication itself, beyond the simple acquisition of, and familiarization with, IMO Standard Maritime Communication Phrases (SMCP). Therefore, in order to make learners' acquisition of marine communication knowledge more feasible, and the knowledge learned more practically applicable, training on effective and clear oral delivery should be also considered within the frame of maritime English education. Thus, critical training elements to realize this goal need to be suggested as guidelines. In this presentation, the theoretical background on this will be introduced in terms of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and Lingua Franca Core (LFC), which are the current mainstream forms of English communication in the international business context. Based on this, six key training elements will be discussed; that is, speech rate, word groups, pauses, nuclear stresses, consonants (including consonant clusters), and vowels (specifically long and short vowels). Finally, the practical pedagogical methods of each element, and its actual application into a real ESP classroom, will be suggested.

  • Purpose: The study aimed to assess differences between nurses' and patients' perception of the communication skills to promote patients' health literacy in a hospital. Methods: The convenience sample consisted of 150 patients and 169 nurses in a university hospital. The data were collected from January to February 2014 using the Communication Skills Scale for Hospital nurses and patients. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Lin's concordance were used to analyze the data. Results: There were significant differences (t=9.44, p<.001) between the perception of nurses ($8.18{\pm}2.00$) and patients ($5.49{\pm}2.95$) on the communication skills used by nurses. Most nurses ($3.87{\pm}0.39$) perceived that the communication skills were effective, but more patients ($4.13{\pm}0.62$) reported significantly higher scores (t=-4.34, p<.001). Conclusion: The results implied that nurses need to make sure that their communication skills are effective when they communicate with patients, and education programs for nurses to develop the advanced communication skills would be necessary.

  • In a specialized modern society and/or visual communication technique seems to be preferable to the traditional one-way communication technique which resorts to reading materials. P.R materials currently produced by various levels of Korean government administrative bodies seem to outdated and inefficient both in their contents and in graphic technique employed. In this paper we argue that the problems of the communication technique used by Korean government result mainly from the ambiguous nature of the message of P.R materials and the inability to differentiate the contents of P.R materials according to the target audience. We recommend various changes to the current government communication program and emphasize the importance of graphic communication technique for the production of more effective and professional communication materials

  • The education system is the communication field should be based on the characteristics of communication science and the function of manpower. However, the current education system at the level of college is insufficient and irrational to meet the requirements of the telecommunication field in our country. The main reasons are as follows: 1. Misunderstanding the characteristics of communication science. 2. Indiscretion of the categories of communication manpower due to lack of coordination between academic circles and communication industrial field. Telecommunication function could be performed only by combining the engineering and the suitable operational control. The communication engineering is similar to the electronic engineering, but the former should follow the miscellaneous international protocol and the domestic regulations, being only a means for the telecommunication function. In order to improve the education system of communiation, we aim to identify the principle of communication science, orthodoxy of the education, the categories of communication industrial field and manpower. The present system has been formed on the basis of ignoring the attributes of manpower and historical background of communication science. Therefore, this paper proposes to set up new departmental organizations for educating communication manpower as the following: In addition, this paper proposes a new curriculum model of the above twodept, and we believe that it well turn out more scientific, effective and reasonable education for the communication science. 1. Modification of the present formation, designated Electronic Communication Department. 2. New formation model: A. The best future model such as establishing ad independent telecommunication college which is composed of : Dept. of Radiocommunication Dept. of Telecommunication Enginnering Dept. of Communication Industrial management Dept. of Transmission Engineering Dept. of Telecommunication Law B. An immediately practicable proposal model instead of the existin Dept.. which is composed of the first two Dept. of the above five Dept. In addition, this paper proposes a new curriculum model of the above two dept. and we believe that it will turn out the education for the communication science to be more scientific, effective and reasonable.

  • This study measured the communication effect on the setting types and the exposure times to perform the effective PPL strategies. By the setting types(on-set and creative) and exposure times(short and long), 308 female older than 20 were divided into 4 experimental groups. Each groups were exposed to the edited movies and required to answer the questionaire. The data were analysed by SPSS 12.0 using Chi-Square, One-Way ANOVA and Duncan test. The results are as follows. First, in cognitive dimension, the on-set type and long exposure group showed the higher recognition and recall. Second, in emotional dimension, the signigicant difference was found in one brand(Kappa) of two which were used in the experiment. In this case, the on-set type and long exposure group showed the positive attitude toward the brand. Third, in behavioral dimension, there were no difference among the groups. The implications based on this results are as follows. First, when implementing of PPL the fashion brands in movies, the on-set type and long exposure would be the most effective method. Second, implementing IMC(Integrated Marketing Communication) linked to the PPL strategy can be more effective. In contrast to the other product categories, it is hard to recognize the brand of fashion goods if the logo or the brand name is not exposed directly. Therefore Combining other communication strategies such as press release simultaneously will birng the more effective result of PPL in the movie.
