This study aims to examine the effect of institutional ownership, independent board of commissioners, audit committee, and profitability (RNOA) on tax avoidance in banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange over the 2014-2018 period. The sampling method employed in this study was the cluster sampling method. The population was all banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2014-2018. The sample selection results using the purposive sampling method during the observation includes 209 companies that published complete annual reports and their financial report notes as of December 31, 2018. The results revealed that institutional ownership and independent board of commissioners did not affect profitability. Profitability also did not affect tax avoidance. Further findings showed that institutional ownership and audit committee positively affect tax avoidance. From the result of Sobel test, this study indicated that profitability cannot mediate the effect of institutional ownership, independent board of commissioners, and audit committee on tax avoidance. This study has succeeded in proving empirically that there was a significant effect of the audit committee on profitability, institutional ownership on tax avoidance, and the audit committee on tax avoidance. Therefore, this study supports the agency theory and the research model from previous studies.

There has been a recent increase in the interest towards founding companies and in line with the South Korean Government's policy on start-up support, discussions are rife about the effect of entrepreneurship on the management and performances of these companies. To enhance the competitiveness of SMEs, it is expedient to acquire and deploy consistent entrepreneurship, differentiate corporate resources, ensure the appropriate utilization of resources and the integration of such factors in response to the changing environment. This research examines relationships among entrepreneurship, three components of corporate capabilities, dynamic capability and technical performance based on resource-based view and the dynamic capability theory. The authors also investigate the moderating role of corporate life cycle. To test the hypothesis, we conducted a survey on 352 technologies -innovative SMEs located in South Korea via professional research institutes. The findings confirm the hypothesis that SMEs' entrepreneurship has a positive effect on three kinds of corporate capabilities (e.g., marketing, R&D, operations capability), and it had a positive effect on dynamic capability, whiles dynamic capability also had an influence on technical performances. The findings also confirmed the hypothesis that corporate life cycle moderates the relationship between dynamic capability and technical performances respectively. The research implications for both practitioners and academicians are discussed.

Purpose - This study examines the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) location choice for Chinese firms, focusing on the agglomeration effect for firms of the same nationality. Design/methodology - The empirical data are China's inward FDI from the top 19 economies (excluding tax havens and Taiwan) in terms of FDI during 1997-2015 and China's outward FDI from the top 18 economies (excluding tax havens). This study uses a random effects generalized least squares model for panel data analysis. Findings - The results confirm that both host countries' costs and market conditions and the degree of agglomeration affect these countries' attractiveness for FDI inflows. Specifically, agglomeration has a significant effect on China's inward and outward FDI. This study confirms that the agglomeration of firms of the same nationality has predictive power for multinational enterprises' FDI location choices. The host countries' real GDP and trade openness also positively affect FDI inflows. Interestingly, however, China's production cost has a positive effect. Thus, inward FDI aimed at entering the Chinese market is increasing in recent years relative to the previous efficiency-seeking FDI. Inward FDI in China is therefore the market-entry type, whereas outward FDI by Chinese firms is the market-oriented type. Originality/value - These results suggest that the effects of the potential determinants of Chinese outward FDI are similar to those of inward FDI as China's trade liberalization progresses.
Purpose: This study aims to analyze and prove the effect of logistic capability and Total Quality Management practices on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) performance directly or mediated by non-financial performance. Research design, data and methodology: This study tested the hypothesis using Hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the method of data collection in this study was using questionnaire, the sampling technique was purposive sampling technique, with SME that has been established for more than 5 years and manufacturing. The data analyzed were 180 respondents using SPSS 25. Results: The findings showed that logistic capability has direct and indirect effects on SME financial performance and has a positive effect on SME financial performance mediated by non-financial performance. While the total quality management practices have a positive effect on SME financial performance mediated by non-financial performance. Thus, companies can achieve maximum financial performance if they invest in developing employee knowledge and concerning on non-financial actions, such as employee satisfaction, innovation and proactively seeking market opportunities. Conclusions: In conclusion, one of the main factors that companies need to consider to improve financial performance is non-financial performance in mediating the effect of logistic capability and TQM practices on the financial performance of SMEs.

This study aims to examine the effect of liquidity, activity, leverage, and profitability on firm value, as well as the effect of disclosure of corporate social responsibility (CSR), which in this study is a moderator and company size as a control variable. The sampling technique used in this study is a purposive sampling method with certain criteria, to obtain a sample of 22 LQ45 index companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2014-2019. The data analysis method in this study used was the Multiple Linear Regression Analysis with the SPSS 18 Program. The results show that the ratios of liquidity, activity, leverage, and profitability are significant to firm value in accordance with the initial hypothesis of the study. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays a role as a moderating variable and company size variable as a control variable on the effect of financial ratios (liquidity, activity, leverage, and profitability) on firm value. The implication of this research is that CSR has a very important role in increasing company value. To attract more investors, companies must pay attention not only to financial performance but also to social performance. Large-scale companies tend to do more CSR so that the company value will increase.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to take fitness APP users as the research object from the perspective of user experience to explore the influence of fitness APP user experience factors on product trust and purchase intention. Design/methodology/approach - The study collected data on 275 customers who had experience buying and using fitness apps. To test the hypothesis, SPSS 27.0 and AMOS 26.0 statistical packages were used based on the collected data. Findings - The results showed that the user experience factors (usefulness, ease to use, enjoyment, interaction) of fitness APP and the relationship between product trust had a positive effect, and product trust had a positive effect on purchase intention. In addition, exercise experience, showed a moderating effect in the relationship between the usefulness, easy to use of user experience and product trust. Research implications or Originality - This study provided research model among user experience factors of fitness APP, product trust and purchase intention. This study can help sports and fitness companies with product optimization and marketing decisions.

This study aims to examine the impact of customer experience and customer engagement on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty in e-retailing in Indonesia. This study uses data from 512 respondents in six e-retailing namely; Bukalapak, Tokopedia, Lazada, Blibli, Shopee and Zalora which are often used by students at the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, Halu Oleo University of Indonesia. The structural model developed in this study was tested using Partial Least Squared (PLS). The results of the study found that there was a reciprocal relationship between customer experience and customer engagement. The results also found that customer experience and customer engagement have a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Customer satisfaction have a positive and significant effect on customer loyalty. In this study it was also found that customer experience has an indirect effect on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty through customer engagement, and customer engagement also has an indirect effect on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty through customer engagement. This study was focused on relationship between customer experience, customer engagement, satisfaction and loyalty. Therefore, future research is expected to be able to test the determinant factors of customer experience and customer engagement.

The study answers the awareness of taxpayers, tax authority services, tax socialization, tax collection, and account representative's controlling (monitoring) for compliance of the corporate Taxpayer. The study also examines the moderating effect of the tax audit to control the corporate Taxpayer's compliance. In this study, the method of non-probability sampling was used. The research data was gathered by handing out questionnaires at the Medan Kota Tax Office in Indonesia. The SEM method was used for data analysis through Lisrel 8.8 program. The findings of the study concluded that tax collection has a significant positive effect on corporate taxpayer's compliance and Tax audit moderates the relation between tax authority services and the account representative's controlling (monitoring) with corporate taxpayers' compliance. Also, tax socialization and account representative's controlling (monitoring) have a positive effect on the corporate taxpayer's compliance. In contrast, variables of taxpayer's awareness and tax authority services have a negative impact. Furthermore, tax audit does not moderate the relation between taxpayer awareness, tax socialization, and tax collection with the corporate taxpayer's compliance at Medan Kota Tax Office Indonesia. The findings suggest the Indonesian policymakers and tax authorities must create corporate legislation to handle compliance by leveraging the loopholes in tax legislation law and the tax audit system.
Purpose: COVID-19 has negatively influenced the financial performance of restaurant firms. Previous literature suggests that the franchising strategy effectively helps restaurant firms recover from difficult business conditions through various methods for expanding business size and enhancing business efficiency. According to risk-sharing theory, restaurant franchisors may minimize operational risks by sharing the risks with their franchisees. For instance, restaurant franchisors could generate more stable cash flow using franchise fees from their franchisees. However, research on the effect of franchise's risk reduction factor on business performance during pandemic is scarce. Thus, this study aims to examine the positive moderating effect of franchising between COVID-19 and restaurants' financial performance. Research design, data, and methodology: Panel data including financial information and franchising status of restaurant firms were collected for analysis. In order to control for unobserved firm-specific factors, generalized least squared estimation in fixed effects model was conducted. Huber-White robust standard errors were used to deal with heteroscedasticity issues. Results: It was found that COVID-19 pandemic has a negative effect on the restaurants' financial performance such as ROA (return on assets), ROE (return on equity), and PM (profit margins), which confirms the findings from existing literature. More importantly, results show that the degree of franchising has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between COVID-19 and financial performance of restaurant firms. This suggests that more active engagement in franchising may decrease negative impacts of COVID-19 on the restaurants' financial performance. Conclusions: The study supports existing literature related to risk-sharing theory, by confirming that pandemics, such as COVID-19, negatively affect financial performance of the restaurants. Furthermore, it was found that franchising strategy can help lessen negative impacts of pandemics on the firm performance. These findings can contribute to the franchise and restaurant management literature by suggesting the role of franchising in reducing business risks, thereby positively affecting financial performance. Moreover, this study offers business managers of franchisors and franchisees insights for utilizing franchising in restaurant risk management. Policymakers may also gain information on aiding restaurant firms during global crisis, such as COVID-19.

This study empirically analyzed the relationship between founder competency and business performance based on the premise that founder competency is the main internal resource of a company from a resource-based view, using a sample of 2,196 startups less than five years old collected and evaluated by the Korea Technology Finance Corporation during the 2016 technology evaluation. The results showed that the technological, managerial, and financial competence of founders had a positive effect on the business performance of startups, and the characteristics of founders' academic major had a moderating effect on the relationship between founder competency and business performance. Based on these findings, this study contributes to the theoretical discussion that technological, managerial, and financial competencies of founders are factors that improve business performance, and provides practical and policy implications for effective entrepreneurship education by suggesting that entrepreneurship education should be transformed and strengthened, including cross-training of founders majoring in science and engineering to foster managerial and financial competencies.
