  • This study investigates the natural convection of air(Pr=0.7) between two walls having a small- wave- number sinusoidal temperature distributions with a phase difference. The wave number and the phase difference of wall temperatures are k=0.5 and ㄱ/2, respectively. In the conduction-dominated regime at small Rayleigh number, two slightly inclined cells are formed over one wave length. At higher Rayleigh number, however, multicellular convection occurs in thermally unstable region. A spatial symmetry is intermittently broken in the transient period at the Rayleigh number near the critical value. The steady-state flows always satisfy the spatial symmetry. A steep increase of Nusselt number occurs near the Rayleigh number at which transition of flow pattern occurs.

  • Fiber optic sensor is widely used in measuring acoustic and vibration. Especially interferometric sensors are more suitable to measure the acoustic signal. In this paper, a Fabry-Perot interferometric fiber optic sensor was used to measure flow induced vibration. This vibration also measured using an accelerometer, and the data was compared to one other. The venture, nozzle, drop barrel, and rapid expansion in the pipeline are the measuring objects. The flow rate is changed from 50 L/min to 150 L/min and the average flow velocity was about 7 m/s. Based on the experimental results the suggested fiber optic sensor detects flow induced vibration effectively. Therefore, this kind of fiber optic sensor can be applied to the monitoring the flow induced noise and vibration such as pipelines, cables, buildings.

  • The study aims present data collection on the current state of safety and safety consciousness in universities' laboratories to verify the relation between investigation factors and further draw implications. The first finding is that laboratories with high risk level do not have better safety management performance than those with lower risk level. Secondly, labs that experienced accidents has a higher level of control than those without any. Regarding to the university's acceptance of safety requirements, the group with a high level of risk awareness or accidents were concerned that their universities did not provide sufficient support in safety management. It means that safety is low on the list of priorities in Universities' overall agenda and individual labs are responsible of their own safety. Most of the causes of accidents in the labs are man-made than physical errors. It requires that continuous safety educations and measures through safe research activities are means to eliminate and reduce the individual's safety frigidity. Through the survey, it is known that current education's system and contents are too generalized to reflect the characteristics of each laboratory. Thus, it is difficult to recognize various risk situations and to actually prevent safety accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to shift to customized curriculum and system for various major fields.

  • A number of medical schools in Korea have been using computer-based testing (CBT) for evaluating their students' scientific and/or clinical performance since the early 1990s. Introducing CBT to medical education would have several advantages: first, presenting figures and audio-video files of clinical content is simple with CBT, making it possible to evaluate medical students' competency with navigating more realistic clinical situations at minimum cost; second, CBT enables automatic item analysis and score reporting. To establish CBT, constructing an item bank with item parameters such as difficulty or discriminating parameters will be needed. To select more psychometrically sound items, analysis of the items according to item response theory is necessary. CBT has already been introduced in high stakes tests like the United States Medical Licensing Examination and the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination. The National Health Personnel Examination Board in Korea is also planning to introduce a CBT-based version of the National Medical Examination soon. Thus all medical schools in Korea will need to introduce CBT and construct item banks to prepare their students for their licensing examinations and to measure the students' competency more accurately.

  • In this paper we show that the projective properties of representations of a quiver $Q={\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}$ as left $R[x]$-modules. We show that if P is a projective left R-module then $0{\longrightarrow}0{\longrightarrow}P[x]$ is a projective representation of a quiver Q as $R[x]$-modules, but $P[x]{\longrightarrow}0{\longrightarrow}0$ is not a projective representation of a quiver Q as $R[x]$-modules, if $P{\neq}0$. And we show a representation $0{\longrightarrow}P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]$ of a quiver Q is a projective representation, if P is a projective left R-module, but $P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]{\longrightarrow}0$ is not a projective representation of a quiver Q as $R[x]$-modules, if $P{\neq}0$. Then we show a representation $P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]$ of a quiver Q is a projective representation, if P is a projective left R-module.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the interaction and satisfaction of with web-based lectures. In addition, it seeks identify their correlations as well as the factors that influence satisfaction. Methods: The study subjects consisted of 139 college students taking up dental hygiene from Suncheon. ANOVA, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were used on the data collected. The Cronbach's alpha for interaction and satisfaction were 0.949 and 0.921, respectively. Results: The interaction recorded was moderate compared to face-to-face lectures. In particular, interaction between students was higher among 3rd grade students compared to those in the 1st grade (p=0.002). Satisfaction with the appropriateness of lecture content and duration was high, but relatively low in terms of the quality of the lecture and the desire to broaden its scope. In particular, satisfaction was higher among students in higher grade levels than their more junior counterparts (p<0.05). It was also found to be positively correlated with interaction (p<0.01). Their respective presence on the educational platform had the greatest impact on satisfaction (β=0.495, p<0.001). Conclusions: Increased interaction results in greater levels of satisfaction. Furthermore, an improvement in the quality of the lectures and the students' perception of them would enable lectures to be conducted more effectively in situations wherein face-to-face lectures cannot be done.
