This study presents results by the content areas in mathematics. Average performance is provided for five content areas: number, algebra, measurement, geometry, and data. Relative achievement is shown among the content areas for 4 countries in comparison to Korea. In number, Korea had lower average achievement than Singapore, especially for ratio proportion percent. Among 5 countries, Korea had the highest average achievement in algebra and geometry, but the lowest in attributes and units of measurement. In data, Korean students didn't learn the followings successfully: a) comparing characteristics of data sets and using mean, median, range, and shape of distribution, b) interpreting data sets (e.g., draw conclusions, make predictions, and estimate values between and beyond given data points), c) evaluating interpretations of data with respect to correctness and completeness of interpretation.
This study is to provide a base for discussions on teaching and teaming of radian through a theoretical analysis of it. Radian possesses two-fold comprehensive properties of measurement as a magnitude and a pure number. As a magnitude of an angle, it has some theoretical advantages in mathematics and in physics, in spite of its non-superiority to other angular measures in practical sense. As a pure number, it has some advantages in that it simplifies theoretical developments of trigonometric functions and justifies omitting the unit in the calculations and final expressions in physics. Radian should be taught and learnt with an appreciation of the advantages of the two-fold properties. Activities to measure angles from various viewpoints may be helpful for this. Students' awareness of the advantages of radian needs to be stimulated and deepened repeatedly as related content appears.
In order to prepare for future social changes, SW·AI education is essential. In this paper, after conducting non-face-to-face SW·AI education for pre-service teachers, the effectiveness of SW education before and after education was measured using the measurement tool on the software educational effectiveness. As a result of the analysis, the overall average and the average of the 'computational thinking' and 'SW literacy' domains increased significantly, and the difference between the averages before and after education was statistically significant in decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithm, which are sub domains of 'computational thinking'. Through SW·AI education, students not only recognize the necessity of SW education and the importance of computational thinking, but also understand the process of decomposing information, recognizing and extracting patterns, and expressing problem-solving processes. It can be seen that non-face-to-face SW·AI education has the effect of improving computational thinking and SW literacy beyond recognizing the importance of SW.
This study was undertaken to develop performance measurement indicators in S Hospital, which is the largest component of Y Medical Center which implemented the Responsible Management System in 1993. To begin, strategic initiatives for S Hospital were reestablished based on Y Medical Center's goals and objectives. The BSC(Balanced Scorecard) was used to develop performance measurement indicators after validity checks by specialists. The results were that total 16 indicators were developed to measure performance for strategic initiatives. Those included the growth rate of patient revenues, operating profit to gross revenues, reduction rate in administrative expenses from a financial perspective; average medical expenses per adjusted patient, patient satisfaction survey for inpatients and outpatients and emergency room patients, return rate for treatment results from the customer's perspective; reduction rate in average length of hospital stay, expenses for lost cases of medical disputes, rate for contracted employees, the number of published reports per faculty member from an internal perspective; educational expenses for training medical staff and full time employees, adjusted patient per medical staff, and the number of cases implemented which were proposed by employees. Any organization needs to have its own explicit objectives to grow and develop and it is absolutely necessary to measure performance to accomplish them. The performance measurement indicators developed by this study are expected to be used as a tool to attain the objectives of S Hospital.
Considerable efforts have been attempted to identify what makes high-quality mathematics instruction, including diversity and variability across different educational systems and cultural contexts. As the instructional elements related to effective mathematics teaching can be commonly applied to different content domains, they may be efficient in selecting such teaching. However, such elements may not reflect on the specific but essential features of each domain. This paper compared and contrasted two sets of measurement teaching practices, which were recognized as good instruction, in terms of how the key elements of measurement domain were implemented. As such this paper is expected to accumulate significant knowledge about elements of effective mathematics instruction that are specialized in a particular content domain of measurement. This paper suggests that domain-specific approach be considered in studying good mathematics teaching.

The purpose of this study is to develop a measurement tool for the quality of information commons. Information commons is a physical, technological, social, and intellectual place where library users can experience various educational, research, and cultural activities. It is recently gaining popularity and several libraries have implemented it to help users share knowledge and interact with each other. It also intends to provide a place for collaboration, learning, and rest. Despite its benefits and usefulness, there is no measurement tool explicitly designed for the quality of information commons. This study used in-depth personal interview, compared prior studies, and conducted a pilot study to elicit library users' perceptions on information commons and factors influencing on the perceived quality of information commons. Groups of initial items were emerged through classifying and clustering key concepts in the data. Then, the validity of the items were verified through a pilot study. The findings of this study will be useful for developing more reliable and valid survey measurement tool.

Highly precision body measurements represent basic data required by industry and researches who wish to utilize information about the human body. The proficiency and expertise of the measurers have a significant influence on the error and accuracy of data when various parts from multiple subjects' bodies are measured. Therefore, in order to measure accurate body measurements (when measuring bodies directly), it is necessary to conduct objective analyses on errors. This study calculated the Relative Technical Error of Measurement (%TEM) using data that measured each of 24 subjects and discussed errors and methods to reduce errors by conducting comparison analysis based on measured items and objects. The result of analysis indicated that the errors based on age and gender of the objects of measurement were minor; however, there were comparatively distinct differences in measured errors based on measured items. 'Right and left Shoulder Angle' for all measured subjects displayed the greatest errors and standard deviations. 'Height' dimension, Lateral Malleolus Height and Head Height had big errors; in addition, 'Circumference', Neck Base Circumference and Armscye Circumference also had big errors. More careful measurements of such items with big errors require additional educational plan such as a proposal for more objective and detailed measurement methods. Items with small errors but big standard deviations such as Waist Circumference, Calf Circumference, Minimum Leg Circumference, Chest Circumference, Hip Circumference and Waist Circumference confirmed that errors for them greatly decreased with repeated experiments and resultant measurers increased proficiency; consequently, repeated measuring experiments for these items greatly enhance accuracy.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems of the Physical Activity Promotion System(PAPS) implemented in elementary, middle, and high schools in Korea and to prepare improvement measures. The data of the study was obtained through in-depth interviews, related papers, and press releases. The research participants of this study were 5 incumbent physical education teachers who directly instruct and measure PAPS at school and 5 college students who directly experienced PAPS. The results of the study are as follows. First, the problems that occurred in the educational environment of PAPS were students' indifference, teachers' passive guidance, and decreased physical education hours replaced by PAPS measurement days. Second, the problems occurring in the measurement environment of PAPS were errors due to measurement equipment, deviations due to different measurement locations, and differences in grades according to measurement items. Third, the problems that occur in the measurement process of PAPS are the lack of measurement personnel, the expedient physical fitness measurement, and the non-standardized measurement method. In order to improve these problems and successfully apply PAPS, the following improvement measures should be attempted. Details on this are as follows. First, teachers should inspire students' interest and interest in PAPS. Second, it is necessary to secure the reliability of the measurement result value of PAPS. Third, it is necessary to systematically supplement the school education system for PAPS measurement.

The objectives of this study are to identify the actual educational contents of management for head nurse and to propose the educational subjects according to identity the needs of head, charge, and staff nurses. The subjects were investigated the actual Management Development Programs and educational needs of head nurses and prospective nurse manager(charge nurse, staff nurse with a lot of clinical experiences) in general hospitals. The tools were composed of two questionnaires: One was developed from the literature review for making items to measure actual situation. The other was revised Katz's model for measurement of educational needs. The first respondents of actual situation were 27 general hospitals with over 400 beds in Seoul and the second respondents were 89 head nurses, 67 charge nurses and 136 nurses at 3 hospitals by convenient sampling out of 27 general hospitals. Data were collected by telephone interview, mail questionnaire and visiting from 7th of October through 30th of November in 1997. In data analysis, general characteristics of the respondents and actual status of Management Development Programs were analyzed by frequency and percentage. Educational needs according to general characteristics were analyzed by ANOVA The results were as follows: 1. Actual situation of Management Development Program 1) Seven hospitals(26%) had Management Development Program for prospective managers and 14 hospitals (52%) for head nurses. 2) Education Department existed in 14 hospitals (52%). 3) One hospital(4%) had top level managers took part in the Management Development. 4) Two hospitals selected head nurse, who had finished courses of Management Development. Eight hospitals(30%) assessed educational needs. The assessment tools consisted of making a question via questionnaire(75%), determining at department meeting(12%) and interview(13%). 5) Educational programs had 3 types: 10 lecture type, 7 discussion type and 4 role play type programs. 6) One hospital evaluated the change of learner's attitude. 7) Four hospitals scored educational point, but that was measured only by attending. 8) Actual Management Development Programs were as follows. parenthesis indicates the number of hospitals. The results of needs on Management Development subject 1) The educational needs of all respondents on 3 skill domains showed positive agreement to strongly positive agreement. 2) High priority(more than 4.5) items were 12 of 24 Human skill items(50%), 1 of 6 Technical skill items(16%), and 2 of 13 Conceptual skill items (15%). 3) Out of high priority items, 8 items were instituted. 4) All respondents showed high needs on 3 skill domains regardless of 3 positions (head nurse, charge nurse, and nurse). Educational needs of Human skill domain, according to position were 108. S, 108.7, 106.8 (mean score = 72) , needs of Technical skill domain were 26.5, 26.6, 26.I(mean score=18), and needs of Conceptual skill domains were 56.9,56.7, 55.1(mean score=39). 5) Needs of 3 skill domains according to clinical career showed significant difference. Out of respondents, nurses with career of over 16years showed lowest degree of needs in Human skill domains(F=4.47, P=.004) and Conceptual skill domain(F=2.93, P=.034). 6) Educational needs according to educational background were not significant difference. But out of respondents, nurses educated at 3-year junior college relatively showed lowest needs in all of the 3 skill domains. With the above-mentioned findings, further study is necessary for generalization of this study at hospitals with different bed size and location. Also it is needed to study about management skill of nurse and charge nurse, and effective educational method.

The multipurpose auditoriums in schools are the center of local community and the places of their life-long education. The multipurpose auditoriums are to be open and made available for use by local public as far as it does not interfere with the education of the schools. However, most of them are not open to public on the pretext of management problems while demands of local communities for the opening of the facility is rising. The role of the multipurpose auditorium as the place of physical training and its maximum availability to local community have be taken into account of from its design stage. The location of the auditorium itself has to be close to the main entrance of the school for easy access, its facilities located in one common area, their management and maintenance scheme adopted appropriately but legally, and then security and safety measurement have to be devised. Also, more studies are necessary to propose detail regulations for local sports facilities and to develop their interrelationship and network, in connection with sophistication of school facilities and BTL system.
