  • Background and objectives: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection globally and is responsible for multiple clinical outcomes, including genital warts and cervical, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers. Despite the well established burden of HPV on both men and women, vaccine uptake among men is critically low in Korea. A preliminary step to combat this issue is to target parents of male adolescents. In the present study, we aimed to assess any change observed in parents' HPV knowledge and attitudes towards male HPV and subsequent willingness to vaccinate their sons following an HPV educational intervention. Methods: On November 14, 2020, a one-time HPV educational session was conducted and parents (n=136) completed self-administered pre-/post-test questionnaires that included previously validated survey items. Paired t-tests were used to evaluate change in HPV-related knowledge, attitudes and intent for HPV vaccination. Results: Following the intervention, participants reported increased scores in HPV and vaccine related knowledge by approximately 4 and 1.5 points, respectively (p<.001). Parents scored higher on perceived benefits of the vaccine, perceived social influence on vaccination decision and perceived severity of diseases caused by HPV infections, whereas lower scores were observed for perceived harm of the vaccine, and difficulties communicating with their sons about sex and HPV vaccination. Following the intervention, those without the intent to vaccinate their sons significantly decreased and those who intended to vaccinate their sons though not in the next six months significantly increased (χ2=33.045, p<.001) Conclusion: Our educational intervention resulted in an increase in HPV-related knowledge with a positive impact on parents' attitudes toward male HPV vaccination. We expect that this study can serve as a pivotal reference to promote the unexplored issue of HPV vaccination among male adolescents in Korea.

  • Due to the computer developments and the expansion of data communications, many changes are done to educational environments in addition to the changes of the various social areas. In this paper, a learning system is developed, which adapts itself by checking the changing factors of the learner. The educator works as a overall project manager in this project learning system and the learner benefits from the user-oriented comparative study and pattern design performed in the domains of the internet and intranet.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigatethe relationship between Korean elementary teachers' teaching practice and students' perceptions of classroom learning environment. It is important to examine whether teachers conceive of mathematics and their teaching practice are consistent with their actual teaching mathematics in classroom. To do so, two reform-oriented and two traditionally-oriented elementary teachers in Seoul and a total of 130 students from these four selected teachers' classes participated in the present study Using classroom environment survey scale [CES] the differences in students' perceptions on classroom learning environment were examined. The results show that students taught by reform-oriented teachers have significantly higher score in the area of participation, relevance, and commitment to learning than traditionally-oriented group of students. Thus, we may conclude that the reform-oriented group of students have more benefits in learning mathematics than do the traditionally-oriented group of students.

  • An attempt to investigate the effect of gender differences on Korean students' EFL learning orientation was made. To explain a Korean EFL learning context, three criteria (cultural distance between the target country and the host country, communicative needs of the TL, the status of the TL in the host country) are adopted. Moreover, as a contrastive FL learning context from the Imposed FL learning context, a FL learning context where there is a substantial cultural distance from the TL community, communication needs of the TL do not exist, and the TL enjoys a special educational and socioeconomic status in the host country, a concept of an Integrative FL learning context is newly brought up in this paper. As the result of a questionnaire conducted in four different high schools, female learners can be claimed to be more internalized about academic and socioeconomic benefits the TL entails for their social advancement and overcoming inequality between men and women in society, albeit insignificant numerical data.

  • In this study, we compared and analyzed the Arduino-based IoT coding environment, which is most frequently used in OSHW, and the microbit-based IoT coding environment developed and spread in the UK. The results show that a microbit-based educational environment can offer a variety of benefits. Although the basic problems are defined and compared, many differences occur. Microbit-based environment has less overhead than Arduino-based environment, which is effective for IoT coding education.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the possibility of application of American cohousing concepts for the development of apartment housing in Korea. The fieldwork included two American cohousing communities of 37 households, extensive interviews, questionnaire, and evaluation of site planning and development process. This paper looked at the real and potential benefits of cohousing in respect of land-use efficiency, resource usage, and the quality of social relationship within the residents. The paper suggests that the abstract notion of a sense of community and concrete issues of housing form are inseparably connected. The paper goes on to suggest that the educational program and the support from the government also are needed for the development of sustainable community.

  • This study is a randomized pretest-posttest design that aims to investigate the effect of early entrepreneurship education on cognitive and non- early entrepreneurship education, non-cognitive skills, creativity, self-efficacy, Bizworld cognitive skills of male sixth-grade primary school students. A total of 45 students were selected by multi-stage random sampling method and were assigned randomly to experimental, active-control and control groups. The experimental group received entrepreneurship education based on the Bizworld entrepreneurship program. The results indicate that early entrepreneurship education had an effect on non-cognitive skills (such as risk taking propensity, creativity, self-efficacy, persistence and need for achievement. It seems that early entrepreneurship education is a proper strategy to develop children's non-cognitive skills in late years of primary school. These skills will affect children's individual, educational, social and occupational future and can have long term benefits for students, families and society.

  • This paper presents an overview of six strategic entry points for sustainability in the context of the construction/engineering curriculum. It compares the pedagogical costs and benefits of each approach and shares lessons learned from experiences at two leading public American universities: Georgia Institute of Technology and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. The paper discusses opportunities in terms of two perspectives on the pedagogy of sustainability: Stealthy Sustainability and Flagrant Sustainability, as part of a strategy of diffusion and routinization of this innovation within existing curricula. The paper concludes with a discussion of considerations that should be taken into account when evaluating the potential for sustainability in new educational contexts.

  • Currently, the construction industry is decreasing every year due to people's poor perception, high labor intensity, unstable employment structure, and welfare problems, as people avoid entry. Accordingly, this study investigated how to attract trainees and graduates from domestic construction education institutions to the construction industry. If institutional devices are prepared to prepare for the future by improving the welfare system such as unemployment benefits and retirement deductions in the construction industry, many trainees in their 20s and 30s will be attracted to the construction industry. If it helps expand hands-on education through on-site linkage and has the necessary technical skills for practice, it is believed that trainees and graduates in their 4s and 60s will be attracted to the construction industry.
