Investigating Good Teaching and Learning Experiences in the Perspectives of University Students through Social Network Analysis

  • This study investigated university students' perspectives on good class and instructional practices through social network analysis. The subjects were 321 students in the third and fourth academic years in a Korean university. The subjects completed four open-ended questions, asking about experience of good class, good instructors' teaching practice, and their feelings and attitudes when participating in good class. As social network analysis, KrKwic (Korea Key Words in Context) was used to compute word frequencies and analyze semantic network structures and Ucinet Netdraw to assess centrality in the social network, consisting of degree centrality, closeness centrality, and between centrality. The results are as follows. First, students showed 5 keywords to depict what good class is, including 'understanding', 'example', 'video', 'interest', and 'communication'. Second, the characteristics of teaching methods by professors who practice good class indicate 'assignments', 'questions', 'understanding', 'example', and 'feedback'. Third, the top 5 keywords of students' attitudes as participating in good class are 'active', 'participation', 'focus', 'listening', and 'asking'. Last, keywords depicting desirable class that students most wanted to take next time are 'assignments', 'rewards', 'understanding', 'difficulty', and 'interest'. The findings from this study include the meanings of the semantic network structures of words in the text making up messages. Also this study can provide empirical evidence for educators and educational practitioners in higher education to create effective learning environments.

한국교육전산망 성과와 효과 예측에 관한 연구 (An Empirical Study on the KREN's Performance and Anticipated Effectiveness)

  • 한국의 교육전산(Korean Education Network)은 약 20년 간 국고를 지원하여 운영하였으며, 초-중고 대학 등 교육기관을 물리망으로 연결하였다. 지난 2001년도 상용망 위탁운영 체제로 전환되면서, 국내 외 교육, 연구 및 학술정보 등을 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 통신 환경을 제공하였다. 이는 정보기술(Information Technology)을 기반으로 한 국가성장에 크게 이바지 하였으며, 교육 품질의 향상과 교육기관의 결속력을 다지는 계기가 되기도 하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고. 교육전산망에 대한 유효성(effectiveness)에 대한 인식이 낮다. 따라서 교육전산망의 효과를 입증할 수 있는 성과 분석이 필요하며, 향후 효과를 예측하여 정부의 지속적 투자를 이끌어 낼 뿐만 아니라, 효율적인 운영 관리를 통한 대학 발전 및 국가 발전의 초석이 될 수 있는 연구가 필요했다. 따라서 본 연구는 100개 기관 이상의 설문을 통해 교육전산망의 성과를 분석하고, 효과를 예측하였다. 만족도의 분석은 비용측면, 기여도 측면, 품질측면, 성과측면 등 4가지로 분류하여 실시하였다. 또한 회귀 분석을 통한 효과 예측은 교육기관의 재학생 규모, 전산망 사용경험 등을 독립변수로 하여 효과 예측을 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 향후 교육전산망에 대한 정책 개발, 교육기관의 활용의 극대화 등을 위한 필요한 연구 자료가 될 것이다.

  • 이 연구는 국가 교육과정 정책 대한 교육전문가와 대중의 관점에 대한 경향성을 비교 분석하기 위하여 2013년 10월부터 2020년 5월까지 실시된 2015 개정 교육관련 연구논문 1152편과 692편의 신문기사를 수집하여 의미연결망과 중첩맵 분석을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과, 전문가 집단에서는 추상적 개념을 중심으로 하여 교육과정 개발에 관련된 핵심적인 개념에 대한 관심이 크게 나타난 반면, 대중들에게선 교육과정의 개발 자체가 아니라 개정으로 인한 현실적인 문제와 결과적인 영향에 더 큰 관심을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 전문가집단에서는 '학습경험의 질 개선을 위한 역량교육과정 개발'과 '문·이과 통합형 교육과정 총론 개발' 영역에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되는 경향을 보였으나, 대중은 '공교육 정상화를 위한 대학입시 개편 방안' 영역에 관심이 집중되는 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 전문가 집단과 대중의 관점 간의 간극을 보여줌은 물론, 이를 해소하기 위한 효과적인 의사소통의 필요성을 제기한다.

Students' Performance Prediction in Higher Education Using Multi-Agent Framework Based Distributed Data Mining Approach: A Review

  • An effective educational program warrants the inclusion of an innovative construction which enhances the higher education efficacy in such a way that accelerates the achievement of desired results and reduces the risk of failures. Educational Decision Support System (EDSS) has currently been a hot topic in educational systems, facilitating the pupil result monitoring and evaluation to be performed during their development. Insufficient information systems encounter trouble and hurdles in making the sufficient advantage from EDSS owing to the deficit of accuracy, incorrect analysis study of the characteristic, and inadequate database. DMTs (Data Mining Techniques) provide helpful tools in finding the models or forms of data and are extremely useful in the decision-making process. Several researchers have participated in the research involving distributed data mining with multi-agent technology. The rapid growth of network technology and IT use has led to the widespread use of distributed databases. This article explains the available data mining technology and the distributed data mining system framework. Distributed Data Mining approach is utilized for this work so that a classifier capable of predicting the success of students in the economic domain can be constructed. This research also discusses the Intelligent Knowledge Base Distributed Data Mining framework to assess the performance of the students through a mid-term exam and final-term exam employing Multi-agent system-based educational mining techniques. Using single and ensemble-based classifiers, this study intends to investigate the factors that influence student performance in higher education and construct a classification model that can predict academic achievement. We also discussed the importance of multi-agent systems and comparative machine learning approaches in EDSS development.

소셜네트워크서비스(SNS)를 활용한 학교건축의 사용자 참여디자인 방법론 연구 (A Study on the User Participatory Design Methodology using Social Network Service for School Facilities)

  • The purpose of user participatory design is to project the images and demands of all the users of a school in person through their direct and active participation. Also, user participatory design is supposed to reduce the role of professionals who have led design to date and to expand the role of users and participants; thereby improving design quality in school construction. The study propose design realization methods using design camp courses and SNS based user participatory workshops. And The study propose on-offline based method and tool which are able to reflect diverse situations and purposes. Finally, the study proposed an application scenario for applying the above proposed methods efficiently in user participatory design. For the application scenario, the study proposed an SNS-based user participatory design method as the most appropriate for Korea.

Fuzzy GMDH-type Model and Its Application to Financial Demand Forecasting for the Educational Expenses

  • In this paper, we developed the fuzzy group method data handling-type (GMDH) Model and applied it to demand forecasting of educational expenses. At present, GMDH family of modeling algorithms discovers the structure of empirical models and it gives only the way to get the most accurate identification and demand forecasts in case of noised and short input sampling. In distinction to fuzzy system, the results are explicit mathematical models, obtained in a relative short time. In this paper, an adaptive learning network is proposed as a kind of fuzzy GMDH. The proposed method can be reinterpreted as a multi-stage fuzzy decision rule which is called as the fuzzy GMDH. The fuzzy GMDH-type networks have several advantages compared with conventional multi-layered GMDH models. Therefore, many types of nonlinear systems can be automatically modeled by using the fuzzy GMDH. A computer program is developed and successful applications are shown in the field of demand forecasting problem of educational expenses with the number of factors considered.

  • In this research, the bidirectional-communication-media-system which is not able to implement by using the existing coaxial cable was manufactured and the method applicable to Educational Environment was proposed. Also, it is implemented that we can use various media contents through narrow bandwidth by network-linking. The unified broadcasting system applicable to Educational Environment based on IPTV was implemented in the last.

  • 교육은 적응적 하이퍼미디어 시스템에서 가장 큰 응용분야이다. 사용자 모형은 적응적 하이퍼미디어 시스템분야에서 매우 중요한 부분이다. 본 논문에서는 학습자의 수준에 따라 다양한 학습 내용을 제공할 수 있도록 신경회로망 기법을 이용하여 사용자 모형을 개발하였다. 개발된 사용자 모형의 성능평가를 위해 웹기본 개념, 멀티미디어, HTML에 관한 내용을 학습하는 하이퍼미디어를 가지고 시뮬레이션 결과 학습자의 수준에 따라 다양한 컨텐츠를 제공함을 알 수 있었다.

  • We propose the architecture for the bidirectional remote educational system using the APII(Asia-Pacific II) international network. The proposed system was imported function of the VoIP and Web storage with Access Grid System for adopting the various cooperating methods of the remote education, and also implemented the network monitoring functions system using MRTG. Using the proposed methods, we have verified the performance and problems of implemented system through the real-time remote education using bidirectional communication between KOREA and Japan.
