A Study on Enhancing Emotional Engagement in Learning Situation - Based on Development Case of English Learning Serious Game 'Word Collectrian' (학습 장면에서 감정 개입을 촉진하기 위한 기능성 게임의 활용 - 단어 시각화 기반의 영어 학습용 기능성 게임 '워드 콜렉트리안' 제작 사례를 바탕으로)

  • Emotion is very important feature in educational situation. Because it has high influence to memory, educational achievement, motivation. This study tried to find out possibility of serious game as emotional engagement tool in educational situation. We did our pilot experiment to elementary school students who are english as second language. In this L2 learning situation, we did our basic experiment with English language learning serious game called 'Word Collectrian". Word Collectrian has some features for emotional engagement. It has interaction for dynamic word visualization, providing context video for word usage, putting visualized word on learner's virtual home. According to experimental result, word Collectrian has possibility for educational achievement and emotional engagement effect.

  • A large part of the wireless Internet contents which the young people access through their mobile phones is mobile games. However, mobile games currently available in the market are mostly simple entertainment packages, and there are hardly any educational game contents. This research divided the middle school computer education curriculum into five parts-common PC knowledge, operating systems, word processor, Internet, and multimedia-and designed and implemented a crossword puzzles mobile game. The mobile game designed in this research was given an emphasis to allow access of school lesson contents anywhere and anytime through actual mobile telecommunication networks, so that the students may experience less barrier to more fun and entertaining educational contents. The developed educational mobile game was applied on 2nd year middle school students. The mobile game had positive educational effects.

  • According to the Infant Educational Law, learning of the children are encouraged through playing, but there are not many tools to learn. Educational Serious Game is a game developed for the purpose of learning. And so, in this paper, we produced serious games for education learning for young children. Contents of the game is the digestive system. And we utilized touch and drag which are kinds of intuitive interface of the mobile platform being able to play easy. At the end of each stage, and it contained a scene that can learn the characteristics of the digestive system. After producing this game, we supplemented something that is inadequate through testing. In addition, the learning effect of the game was confirmed by interviews with the teachers. We hope this will be a fun and informative game for the digestive tract to the children.

  • Outdoor play for young children can promote the development of physical development, emotional development, and creativity development. However, due to safety accidents that occur in outdoor play, outdoor play is not progressed sufficiently. In this paper, we have developed smart functional educational games for AR education which can be easily used in early childhood education. In order to maximize the educational effect of the developed game and to provide customized education on the field, we conducted a focus group interview with a group of in - service child care teachers in the game design stage. Through this, we developed a functional game with AR system and verified the educational effect.

  • The constructivism is an important stream of the recent trends of mathematics education. In order for students to construct their knowledge for themselves, above all, it should be a prerequisite that they participate in actively, Using games helps students to participate in learning mathematics actively. I think, up to now, mathematics teachers use games mainly for motivation and it does not connect to true learning mathematics through using games. So, the purposes of this study are developing the mathematical games connecting to mathematical contents closely, designing the teaching models to connect game activities to learning mathematics, and developing several teaching plans using games to mathematics class. In this study, I propose what conditions 'good' game should have, classify games as practice game, concept learning game, and strategy game, and develop 43 games from 1 to 6 grade. And I design the teaching models depending on the game types and develop the teaching plans.

  • Game industry developed much from fast development of an information communication technology and an internet technology. Game industry is getting attention by high value-added industry in 21th century And genre of various game appeared. On-line game is taking charge of important role of latest IT industry Now, game software market for education is expanded, but a lot of side effects exist because of wrong game software. In this paper, we investigate existent researches about quality evaluation of on-line game's qualitative improvement. Also, we present improving quality evaluation constituent additionally.

  • Dut to the development of information technology, various serious games have been provided. In recent years, educational serious game that provides education services haven't been widely used. Especially, using serious game without trust is one of the main hinderance in the expansion of educational serious games. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of trustworthiness, which is antecedent variable for trust, on commitment and continuance intention. To achieve the research purpose, this study conduct the survey. The results showed that the trustworthiness significantly influence on commitment and continuance intention.

  • Many countries and international organizations have carried out rover missions to explore planetary surfaces. Accordingly, the demand for mechatronics education, which is closely related to building exploratory robots, is also steadily increasing. However, due to the complexity in understanding the background information needed for mechatronics, it is hard for pre-college students to study such process. In this study, we suggest an educational platform for mechatronics using a combined robot kit with a spherical robot and a smartphone application. To provide a visual understanding, the dynamic model of the robot is constructed while analyzing the error between actual driving and a simulation, and the educational algorithm of the game and a feedback method are proposed to improve the learning efficacy by considering the user's level of knowledge of mechatronics. We use this educational spherical robot to develop a curling game platform that can impart engineering education even when students lack significant knowledge.

  • Sorting algorithms are the basic building blocks that computer science students need to learn. In recent years, sorting algorithms also have begun to be taught in K-12 classrooms using "the educational sorting game" described in CSUnplugged. However, although the educational sorting game was developed for students aged 8 and up, it is hard for K-12 teachers to play with their students because it is difficult for teachers to understand all of the algorithms and some popular algorithms do not work well in the educational sorting game. In this paper, we discuss what teachers should know, and experimentally analyze the performance of the existing algorithms when applied to the educational sorting game.

  • This study aims to develop an educational game that combines block coding and metacognitive education to help students learn coding effectively, given the increasing importance of coding education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. By utilizing the advantages of block coding, the study aims to facilitate natural coding learning and apply metacognitive elements to improve the learning process and student competence. Future plans include incorporating feedback from middle school student interviews to expand and supplement the study's findings. The game developed in this study is expected to be used as an actual coding education tool and as an auxiliary educational material for textbooks both inside and outside the school.
