  • National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA) is important standard reference to become the basic data for confirming the effect of the curriculum administrated and the educational policies put in force presently and preparing the new curriculum and educational policies. In this paper, we looked into the mean and standard deviation of the calibrated score of whole group and male/female students, the correct answer ratio of each performance level and the correct answer ratio of each content domain, etc. in the results of NAEA at 6th elementary school. The analytic objects are 2010 and 2011 NAEA that are changed into complete enumeration survey and the standard reference prepared on the basis of the new calibrated score is applied to. And we analysed and compared correct answer ratio of the each content domain and each item to conform the difference between male and female students. On the basis of the these informations, we investigated that here is what kind of characteristics and trends to the whole group and what kind of suggestions to the teaching-learning. And we were going to provide the information of the needs to understand which content of mathematics is needed and which thinking methods are needed.

  • This paper aims to explore what we can improve in the curriculum, teaching-learning, and evaluation on the bases of the analyses of multiple-choice items set in National Assessment of Educational Achievement. For this goal, by using the distribution curves of the responses percentages, we will grasp the features of educational achievement which appear to students through an in-depth analysis about not only item itself but also the contents included in particular distracters. These analyses provide more information than the descriptive statistical values such as the mean of correct answer percentage and the discrimination of whole group and the mean of responses percentages of replies of subgroups. Because the distribution curves of the responses percentages reveal the transition from the lowest to the highest educational achievement very well. From these analyses we acquire the implications about the concept of prime factor or prime factorization, ratio(proportion) such as velocity, linear function, volume of cone, properties of solid figure, and probabilities of empty event and total event.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the effects of the educational context variables on 8th-grade science achievement of 5 top performing countries(Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan) in TIMSS 2015. TIMSS 2015 science data and questionnaire results were used for fitting Hierarchical Linear Model (HLM) in this study. According to the results, such student-level variables as home resources for learning, students' interest in science learning, valuing science, Students' Educational Expectations gave significant influence on the science achievement of Korean students. School-level variables including Student Economic Background, and School Emphasis on Academic Success gave significant influence on the science achievement of Korean students. Comparing 5 countries, home resources for learning, students' interest in science learning, Students' Educational Expectations gave significant influence on the science achievement in all 5 countries. At the school level, Student Economic Background is statistically significant in explaining students' science achievement gap in all countries except Japan, and Teaching Limited by Student Needs gave significant influence on the science achievement in all countries except Korea. Discussed in the conclusion are ways to improve middle-school science teaching and learning including reducing the education divide among socioeconomic status, teaching innovation for competency education, inquiry and reinforcement of lab activities in science classes, and so on.

  • Comparative studies using large-scale data such as TIMSS, PIRLS, and PISA inform us of the effectiveness of each educational system. Even though samples in the large-scale studies were representative, admitting potential discrepancy when applying the findings of the large-scale studies to local educational system is still needed. This study examines the structural relationship among students' attitude towards science, learning support from teachers, school life, and science academic achievement with both large-scale data and local comparative study data utilizing same variables. Responses on the TIMSS 2019 of 5,554 Korean seventh-grade students and National Assessment of Educational Achievement (NAEA) 2019 of 6,365 third-grade middle school students were used. The results indicate that: a) school life did not affect the science achievements in both data. However, in NAEA 2019, students' attitude mediated the relationship between school life and science achievement; b) learning support from teachers had a significant impact on TIMSS science achievements, and also had positive effect on achievement through students' attitude in TIMSS. On the other hand, learning support had a positive effect on achievement only when student's attitude mediated the relationship in NAEA; c) students 'attitude toward science had positive effect on science achievement on both data; d) the impact of gender was different on school life, academic achievement, students 'attitude towards science, and learning support from teachers on both data; and e) the impact of the number of books differed as well. There were differences in results between the international and domestic research, which inform us that we need to pay attention when interpreting the domestic environment through the results of international research.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the causal relationship among perceived instrumentality, mastery goal orientation, self-regulated learning and academic achievement in cyber education. 317 current students of the W cyber university participated in the study. The results of structural equation modeling analysis are as follows: First, endogenous instrumentality affects mastery goal orientation. Second, mastery goal orientation affects self-regulated learning. Third, while exogenous instrumentality had negative effect on academic achievement, self-regulated learning was the only variable that had positive effect on academic achievement. In addition, the result indicated that endogenous instrumentality had indirect effect on academic achievement and self-regulated learning mediated between mastery goal orientation and academic achievement.

  • The purpose of the research is examine the effect of STEM integration education using educatinal robot on academic achievement and subject Attitude of mathematics and science. The participants were 73 students of two classes, sampled from 6th graders of an elementary school. They were divided into a control group who learned a traditional mathematics and sciences education based textbooks and an experimental group who learned STEM integration education using educational robot during 12 sessions. The results are summarized as follows : First, there is a significant difference in academic achievement between two groups. STEM integration education using educational robot based group accomplished higher achievement than textbook based instruction group. Especially, post test analyzes results on the three factors of academic achievement, knowledge, understanding and adaptation, indicate statistically meaningful difference between two groups in understanding and adaptation area except knowledge area. Second, it shows that it greatly affected a positive influence on experimental group's attitude toward subjects in affective area. So we can expect STEM integration education using educational robot to be an alternative for stimulating children's higher learning interest on mathematics and science subject.

  • In this study we desire to deduce implications for mathematics curriculum, teaching- learning, and evaluation from the data of Nation Assessment of Educational Achievement. For this, first we extracted the items written by the same achievement standard over two years from 2010 to 2012. Next we investigated whether the items are the representative items of a certain proficiency level and classified into the case of the items of the same proficiency level and the case of the items of different proficiency levels. Based on these we analysed learning characteristic of the each proficiency level. From the results of the above, we proposed what should be changed in mathematics curriculum, what should be considered in teaching-learning, and what should be paid attention to test item development.

  • Lately, studies on the educational effectiveness of educational programming language which can reduce the learning burden of the learners have been conducted in the programming learning process. This study analyzed the effect of programming education on the learning motivation and academic achievement after training the programming education using Scratch and Dolittle on the preliminary elementary school teachers. As a result, the experimental group trained by Scratch programming education showed significantly higher achievement than the control group by Dolittle Programming. This result can be helpful in selecting educational programming language when the programming education will be trained to the preliminary elementary school teachers.

  • The purpose of present study was to develop teaching-learning materials based virtual reality technology(VRT), and to examine the effect of it on the knowledge achievement of biology. Authoring tool of virtual reality(VR) was 3D Webmaster made in Superscape Ltd., United Kingdom. Educational materials was developed for the structure and function of eye of life field in the 10th science. It was learner-directed and interactive educational material using the Web-based and desktop VR. The result showed a meaningful improvement on the achievement. Using 3D VR shows the potential of available education media in the next generation as science teaching-aided materials, which especially was efficient in the understanding and perception of abstract or difficult to direct experience learning contents.
