  • In this article, we investigated plane figures introduced in elementary school mathematics in the perspective of traditional classification, and also analyzed plane figures focused on the invariance of plane figures out of traditional classification. In the view of traditional classification, how to treat trapezoids was a key argument. In the current mathematics curriculum of the elementary school mathematics, the concept of sliding, flipping, and turning are introduced as part of development activities of spatial sense, but it is rare to apply them directly to figures. For example, how are squares and rectangles different in terms of symmetry? One of the main purposes of geometry learning is the classification of figures. Thus, the activity of classifying plane figures from a symmetrical point of view has sufficiently educational significance from Klein's point of view.

  • Education for the future society should emphasize the experience of sharing, coexisting, and solving problems in cooperation with each other in the community. Accordingly, in addition to the problem-solving capability, which is the ultimate goal of mathematics education, it is necessary to strengthen the capability to solve unstructured problems through collaboration. This study attempted to suggest that solving complex problems through collaboration is used in school classes or gifted education by introducing polymath that solves problems using collective intelligence. Accordingly, a target problem was set and an example of polymath in which community members exert each other's intelligence to solve the problem. In addition, by investigating the perceptions of students who have experienced polymath, positive aspects and improvements of polymath were suggested. Through this, this study can contribute to revitalization of mathematics teaching and learning methods using collective intelligence.

  • The Interdisciplinary-Multistrategic Science Education Program(IMSEP) is designed as an efficient program for the education of the gifted in science. An example of the contents is developed, which encompasses mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and biology. In the program, the complexity(interdisicplinarity) of scientific contents and instructional strategies used to deliver the scientific contents are designed to be correlated to each other in such a way that as the scientific contents gets more complex, the scientific skill to be taught by the instructional strategy becomes deeper. Through the careful balance between the scientific contents and the instructional strategies student's scientific knowledge and scientific skill will develop balanced and the effectiveness of science education will be maximized.

  • The late industrial structures have been changed rapidly. Thus the educational institutes and businesses should be able to react with speed to the change of paradigm. The importance of talent who is taped and leads to epochal and social trend of change has been strongly emphasized. Recently with the phenomena of technical fusion and composition it is emphasized that the requested talent by an enterprise is the multi professional person who has the diverse professional technology and the ability of the solving problem. Changing a person who requires from an enterprise the upbringing goal of the educational institute undergo a great many changes. Thus analyzing the required talent by an enterprise, the purpose of this study is to suggest the educational program to train the multi professional person by the example of the operation of innovative engineering education program financially supported by Minister of Education, Science and Technology.

  • A purpose of this study is to understand Platonic View of Health in $\boxDr$Politeia$\boxUl$. Though Plato was not so much a doctor as a philosopher. he had health care of children at heart. He mapped out an ideal type of nation in $\ulcorner$Politeia$\lrcorner$. and he founded a Akademeia in order to realize his dreams. In his course of education. he put emphasis on the problem of health. He extended poetry education for mental health and physical education for physical health. He placed high value on mental health above physical health. and poetry education corresponds to our reading education of today. He perceived that reading had a considerable influence on mental health promotion. According to his assertion, life style, too. had something to do with health condition. To lead a simple. temperate life makes one' health promote, on the other hand, to lead a complicated, intemperate life makes one' health injure. Morever, he approved of a eugenic marriage and the law of jungle. If one is unable to take care of one' health oneself. he would rather die than live. We cannot accept this proposal by general consent. but we cannot be too careful of our health. We can draw out a philosophy of health from Platonic View of Health. For example. the importance of health education. the preference of mental health. the influence of reading education. and responsibility for self-care, etc. We need to establish a philosophy of health scientifically by lasting study of records.

  • The purpose of this research was to determine whether the present Korean teacher education programs for secondary science teachers are effective in improving the teacher conceptions of constructivism and STS. It is because the current Korean National Science Curriculum is consistent with both ideas as reforms. The teacher education programs sampled in the research included pre-service programs and two types of in-service programs. These two were the Qualifying In-service Program and the Iowa Korean Science Teachers Workshop. The Iowa Program was considered as an experimental program emphasized the constructivist perspective. Specially designed questionnaires for identifying teacher conceptions before and after the programs were administered. The conceptions about constructivism and STS improved as a result of the instruction in both of the pre-service and in-service teacher education programs. The pre-service program was more effective than the in-service programs in improving the teacher conceptions of both constructivism and STS. The Qualifying Inservice program was less effective than Iowa Korean Science Teachers Workshop. It was necessary for inservice programs for Korean secondary science teachers to be more emphasized on constructivism and STS. Iowa Korean Science Teachers Workshop provided a possible example to design a new special in-service program focused on constructivist perspectives as a way of aligning the Korean National Science Curriculum more quickly with recommended teaching practices in Korean schools.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the『So-Hak』that is a teaching material book of child education, to apply for the education of children. Especilly this study analyzed the structure and contents of the 『So-Hak』and considered the modern significance of children's moral education in the parts of「Kyoung-sin」. The main findings of the study are as follows: 1. The structure of『So-Hak』is two parts of inside and outside, the inside parts are structure four volumes「Ib-Kyo」,「Myoung-Ryoon」,「Kyoung-Sin」,「Kye-Gyo」and the outside parts are structured two volumes「Ka-Eon」,「Sun-Haing」. The contents are including the explaynatory notes everyday life a saying for self-culture, a loyal subject, dutiful son. The inside parts proved of the introduction of Confucianism, quoting the Confucius Four scripture. The outside parts proved of the example the family words and good deeds. 2. The fundamental spirit of moral education including the part of「Kyoung-Sin」is the education of Humanism. It is the education of a moral Principle and human nature that morality welled up naturally is one's mind. It is significant for the mental education is modern society regarded as the times of moral crisis.

  • Critical thinking ability based on a sound sense of logic is essential for analyzing a given engineering design problem and assessing it to arrive at the most plausible conclusion. Engineering design classes require students to organize their engineering design experiences through reports, and engineering design reports require detailed specifications of their tasks at each stage. Given the nature of these curriculums, design classes provide writing courses focusing on science and engineering within specialized fields, but there still lies many obstacles for communication education that embraces both general education and major subjects. This study proposes a specified step-by-step writing model for engineering design reports that encompasses critical thinking for the objective of systemizing design experiences from engineering design report writing. For the purpose of the study, the concepts and relationship between critical thinking and creative problem solving have been examined, followed by a proposal of application methods for critical thinking criteria and elements from a case example on engineering design. Furthermore, the study proposes a critical thinking-based assessment rubric for logical decision making at each stage of engineering design as well as a resulting model for engineering design report writing.
