반도체 Wafer용 Edge Grinding Machine의 구조 안정화를 위한 설계 개선 (Design Alterations of a Semiconductor Wafer Edge Grinder for the Improved Stability)

  • It is generally accepted that the surface quality of wafer edge is mostly damaged by the vibrations of the edge grinding machine. The surface quality of wafer edge is supposed to be the most dominant factor of the cracks, scratches, burrs and chips on the edge surfaces, which are the main defects of the wafers. In this study, the structure of a wafer edge grinder has been investigated through the frequency response experiment and the computer simulation to find ways to suppress the vibrations from the structure. The main reasons of the structural vibrations were analyzed. And further the design alterations were deduced from the results of the experiment and the simulation, and applied to the machine to check the effects of those alterations and to eventually improve the structural stability. The result shows that the machine can have much improved stability with relatively simple design changes.

  • According to the PSPC (Performance Standard for Protective coatings) rule, the edge preparation must keep 2R or 3-pass grinding. The stiffener plate edge grinding of the ship inside is manually progressed by worker and worked with just one pass grinding. In addition, the poor working condition cause grinding workers to avoid working in them, and the quality is determined by the skill-level of a worker. This research developed optimal tool for edge milling. In order to milling various collar plates edge, this research developed vision system that can recognize the edge points and it developed a program that operator can adjust the amount of cutting and speed, and add various features so that milling quality would be improved. So, this research focused on overcoming the difficulties in working condition and development of automated milling machine for ship stiffener plate.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of grinding and diamond wheel grinding ceramic materials, grinding resistance, surface roughness of worked surface and image of grinding wheel were acquired using experimental method. Through the experiments, this makes it possible to observe grinding wheel behavior by grinding resistance, surface roughness and cutting edge ratio. In case of A1$_2$O$_3$, cutting edge ratio is begger than that of ZrO$_2$and Si$_3$N$_4$. That's because A1$_2$O$_3$has a characteristics of low fracture toughness and bending stress.

  • As tools for machining precision componants, end mills and ball end mills are widely used. For the end mills have longer cylindrical shape comparing dianeter, they are liable to deflect when machining and induce geometrical error and deterioration of surface roughness. To improve the stiffness and the sharpness of the cutting edge of end mill, a software for manufacturing end mills are developed. The program predicts the result of helical flute grinding and the configuration of cuting edge which is located in cylindrical surface. Furthermore to facilitate the manufacturing end mills using CNC grinding machine, the setting condition which satisfy the geometrical requirements like tool rake angle and stiffness are obtained.

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of diamond wheel grinding of ceramic materials, grinding resistance, surface roughness of ground surface and image of grinding wheel were acquired using experimental method.   • The characteristics of grinding and wear behavior of diamond wheel for grinding ceramic materials was investigated in this study. In case of $Si_3N_4$, the wear of wheel was large, the finding force was relatively stable and the fluctuation of surface roughness n small. On the other hand in case of $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$, the wear of wheel and surface roughness were decreasing, the grinding force was increasing. During grinding with vitrified bond wheel, $Si_3N_4$ shows renewal of cutting edge while $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$ show glazing phenomenon of cutting grains. We have found that it possible to observe the behavior of grinding wheel by grinding ratio, grinding resistance, surface roughness and cutting edge ratio. Through the grinding experiments, it was found that grinding life of diamond wheel is 20 times for $Si_3N_4$, and 40 times fir $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$.

  • A weaving machine for texture industry uses a lot of needles and the nib of these needles is necessary to be kept with sharp edge. The re-grinding of the needle by a special purpose of the grinding wheel can be selected for achieving this aim. This study focused on the manufacture and performance assessment the special grinding wheel. A forming mold for the grinding wheel was designed and a sintering process for furnace process control was established. Manufactured wheels were tested for determining suitable grade of the wheel. The selection of optimal grinding conditions was achieved by a response surface method and a genetic algorithm.

The resistance of vitrified bond wheel was less then that of resinoid bond wheel because of imbedded large holes on the surface of cutting edge. Surface roughness was decreasing while increase of spindle speed. The surface roughness using vitrified bond wheel was less than that of resinoid bond wheel because of small elastic deformation. After continuous finding of ceramics, cutting edge ratio of resinoid bond wheel decreased. For the case of vitrified bond wheel, cutting edge ratio did not change.

  • Creep-feed grinding is an effective technology processes to increase the productivity and efficiency in form grinding. This method has, however, some problems which the progress of abrasive wear around the cutting edge is remarkable, grinding force become intense and burn marks on the ground surface occur frequently. In order to solve this problems, it is proposed in this study to dress the grinding wheel continuously during the grinding process. The purpose of this research is. therefore, that CNC creep-feed grinding machine which has a continuous dressing device developed and some grinding experiments for determination of dressing conditions carried out.
