  • This paper presents a modified mean curvature diffusion filter to smooth speckle noise in images. Mean curvature diffusion filter has already shown good results in reducing noise in images while preserving fine details. In the mean curvature diffusion, the rate of smoothing is controlled by the local value of the diffusion coefficient chosen to be a function of the local image gradient magnitude. In this paper, the diffusion coefficient is modified to be controlled adaptively by local image surface slope and heterogeneity. The local surface slope contributes to preserving details (e.g.edges) in image and the local surface heterogeneity helps the smoothing filter consider the amount of noise in both edge and non-edge area. The proposed filter's performance is demonstrated by quantitative experiments using speckle noised aerial image and TerraSAR-X satellite image.

  • In order to recognize the allowable bending diameter in coils, the strain as function of diameters is evaluated. The irreversible strain limits of $I_c$ in the easy and hard bending modes were measured. Strains were calculated at the coating film in the easy bending and at outer edge or inner edge in the hard bending of the CC tape, respectively. The tape geometry subjected to bending procedures is considered from the current industrial spool winding operation. Through the linear superposition of strain induced in different bending modes regarding the expressions, the appropriate design for critical bending diameter is suggested. Results proved that the existence of buckling resulting from bending in hard direction when applied strain exceeded 0.6% is possible. The depicted results showed that the strain limit as a viable parameter should be considered for future purposes.

  • In-situ observation of electromigration behavior of eutectic SnPb solder was performed as a function of line length at $100^{\circ}C$, $6{\times}10^4A/cm$ condition in a scanning electron microscope chamber. The incubation time for edge drift and the edge drift velocity increase as line length increases, which are discussed with the void nucleation stage of solder bump and the electromigration back flux force, respectively. Finally, the existence of electromigration product (jL) and its line length dependency are also discussed.

  • We have studied critical currents of $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ step-edge junctions with different step orientations with respect to the major axes of $SrTiO_3$ (100) substrates. The junctions were prepared by pulsed laser deposition and argon ion milling with photoresist mask. We investigated current-voltage characteristics and critical current of the junctions as a function of the angle. The junction critical current showed an angle dependent modulation with maxima near 0 or 90 degree and minima near 45 and 135 degrees. The experimental results were analyzed based on the microstructure of the junction along the step and the d-wave symmetry of $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ superconductor.

  • High Frequency Electric Resistance Welding process has been widely used in manufacturing welded steel pipes because of its high welding speed and quality. This process utilizes the skin effect as well as the proximity effect of the high frequency current in heating the skelp edge. In this study, an analytical solution of the edge temperature was obtained based on several assumptions. The assumptions includes the expontial decay of weldingcurrent from the surface and neglect of the heat loss in the welding direction. This calculation shows a good agreement with the observations made from the high speed camera. Using tile analytical model, tile heat required as a function of the welding speed and the skelp thickness was determined. These results were compared with the experimental results obtained.

  • In this paper, a finite element method for predicting the temperature and stress distributions in micro-machining is presented. The work material is oxygen-free-high-conductivity copper(OFHC copper) and its flow stress is taken as a function of strain, strain rate and temperature in order to reflect realistic behavior in machining process. From the simulation, a lot of information on the micro-machining process can be obtained; cutting force, cutting temperature, chip shape, distributions of temperature and stress, etc. The calculated cutting force was found to agree with the experiment result with the consideration of friction characteristics on chip-tool contact region. Because of considering the tool edge radius, this cutting model using the finite element method can analyze the micro-machining with the very small depth of cut, almost the same size of tool edge radius, and can observe the 'size effect' characteristic. Also the effects of temperature and friction on micro-machining were investigated.

  • Mobile edge computing (MEC) is capable of providing services to smart devices nearby through radio access networks and thus improving service experience of users. In this paper, an offloading strategy for the joint optimization of computing and communication resources in multi-user and multi-MEC overlapping scene was proposed. In addition, under the condition that wireless transmission resources and MEC computing resources were limited and task completion delay was within the maximum tolerance time, the optimization problem of minimizing energy consumption of all users was created, which was then further divided into two subproblems, i.e. offloading strategy and resource allocation. These two subproblems were then solved by the game theory and Lagrangian function to obtain the optimal task offloading strategy and resource allocation plan, and the Nash equilibrium of user offloading strategy games and convex optimization of resource allocation were proved. The simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm could effectively reduce the energy consumption of users.

  • Free vibration analysis of arbitrary quadrilateral thick plates with internal columns and elastic edge supports is presented by using the powerful pb-2 Ritz method and Reddy's third order shear deformation plate theory. The computing domain of arbitrary quadrilateral planform is mapped onto a standard square form by coordinate transformation. The versatile pb-2 Ritz functions defined by the product of a two-dimensional polynomial and a basic function are taken to be the admissible functions. Substituting these displacement functions into the energy functional and minimizing the total energy by differentiation, leads to a typical eigenvalue problem, which is solved by a standard eigenvalue solver. Stiffness and mass matrices are numerically integrated over the plate by using Gaussian quadrature. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated through several numerical examples by comparison and convergency studies. A lot of numerical results for reasonable natural frequency parameters of quadrilateral plates with different combinations of elastic boundary conditions and column supports at any locations are presented, which can be used as a benchmark for future studies in this area.

  • A program for drawing of penetrating lines was developed in personal computer. PROLOG, a language of Artificial Intelligence, was used and a data structure using relational data base was designed. An algorithm for finding the penetrating lines in the real space was developed. The program can be applied at any types of penetrating problems like curve-surface, surface-surface, curve-object, surface-object, object-object, etc. In developing the program, the following results were obtained. (1) Relational data base built in PROLOG and the function of backtracking are helpful in Computer Graphics. (2) In spite of increasing the number of edges, assigning direction to the edges makes it possible to represent the polygon meshes as the non ordered sets of directional half edges. (3) Topologicaly the penetrating lines of a polygon can be represented as the edge-pairs in the edge list of the polygon,
