This paper proposes a KLT-CVQ scheme using PCNN to improbe the quality of the reconstructed images at a given bit rate. By using the PCNN and classified vector quantization, we exploit the high energy compaction and compelte decorrelation capbilities of the KLT, and the pdf (probability density function) shape and space-filling advantages of the vQ to improve the performance of the proposed hybrid coding technique. In order to preserve the preceptual fetures such as the edge components in the reconstructed images, we classified the input image blocks according to the texture energy measures of the local statistics and vector-coded them adaptively, and thereby reduces the possible edge degradation in the reconstructed images. The results of the computer simulations show that the performance of the proposed KLT-CVQ is higher than that of the KLT-CSQ or the DCT-CVQ in the quality of the reconstructed images at a given bit rate.

This paper presents a novel prototype of active voltage-clamping capacitor-assisted edge resonant soft switching PWM inverter operating at a constant frequency variable power (VPCF) regulation scheme, which is suitable for consumer high-power induction-heating cooking appliances. New generation IGBT with a trench gate is particularly improved in order to reduce conduction loss due to its lowered saturation voltage characteristics. The soft switching load resonant and quasi-resonant inverter designed distinctively using the latest IGBTs is evaluated from an experimental point of view.

Statistical and probabilistic behaviors of fibers forming fiber webs of all kinds are of great significance in the determination of the uniformity and physical properties of the webs commonly found in many industrial products such as filters, membranes and non-woven fabrics. However, in studying the spatial geometry of the webs the observations must be theoretically as well as experimentally confined within a specified unit area. This paper provides a general theory and framework for computer simulation for quantifying the fiber segments bounded by the unit area in consideration of the "edge effects" resulting from the truncated length segments within the boundary. The probability density function and the first and second moments of the length segments found within the counting region were derived by properly defining the seeding region and counting region.

An experiment study of the dendrite growth of ice crystals growing in quiescent pure subcooled water was made at small subcoolings of 0.035 K < ${\Delta}T$ < 1.000 K. It was observed that the growth kinetics and morphology are functions of not only subcooling but also thermal convection. When the subcooling is less than 0.35K, it was found that effect of thermal convection on growth kinetics of ice dendrites becomes important. Quantitiative measurements of growth velocity, $V_{G}$, and tip radii of the edge and basal planes, $R_{1}$ and $R_{2}$, were made simultaneously as a function of subcooling.
An L(2; 1)-labeling of a graph G is a function f from the vertex set V (G) to the set of all non-negative integers such that ${\mid}f(u)-f(v){\mid}{\geq}2$ if d(u, v) = 1 and ${\mid}f(u)-f(v){\mid}{\geq}1$ if d(u, v) = 2. The ${\lambda}$-number of G, denoted ${\lambda}(G)$, is the smallest number k such that G admits an L(2, 1)-labeling with $k=\max\{f(u){\mid}u{\in}V(G)\}$. In this paper, we consider the square of a cycle and provide exact value for its ${\lambda}$-number. In addition, we also completely determine its edge span.
In order to obtain homogeneous and high quality products in powder compaction forging process, it is very important to control stress, strain, density and density distributions. Therefore, it is necessary to understand quantitatively the elasto-plastic deformation and densification behaviors of porous metals and metal powders. In this study, elasto-plastic finite element method using Lee-Kim's pressure dependent porous material yield function has been used for the analysis of three dimensional indenting process. The analysis predicts deformed geometry, stress, strain and density distribution and load. The calculated load is in good agreement with experimental one. The calculated results do not show axisymmetric distributions because of the edge effect. The core part which is in contact with the indentor and the outer diagonal edge part are in compressive stress states and the middle part is in tensile stress state. As a results, it can be concluded that three dimensional analysis is more realistic than axisymmetric assumption approach.
An objective examination of 123 subjects aged from 19 to 23 was made from a clinical standpoints to determine the natural occurrence in anterior tooth contact in centric occlusion, and tooth contact in protrusive occlusion, left and right lateral excursions, and temporomandibular dysfunction. 1. In centric occlusion, maxillary 6 anterior contact type was frequently observe (30.08%) compared with other types of contact (incisor contact: 19.47%, no contact: 17.70%, canine and incisor contact: 15.04%, canines contact: 12.39%, unilateral canine contact: 5.31%) (P<0.01) 2. In protrusive position (edge to edge bite), maxillary central incisors contact was predominant (86.7%). (P<0.01) 3. In lateral excursion, there was not any significant difference between canine guided occlusion (47.79%) and group function occlusion (total 51.32%, AG:9.29%, PG:13.27%, G:28.76%). 4. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction was observed in 12.4% of 123 subjects.

Blur identification is the first and the most important step of restoring images. Edge region of the image usually conveys important information of blur parameters. In this paper we propose a region-based edge extraction method for estimating point-spread-function (PSF). As a result, the proposed method can detect the starting and the ending points of a step response, and provides the PSF parameters to the restoration process.

Beause BiCMOS logic circuits consist of CMOS part which constructs logic function and bipolar part which drives output load, the effect of short faults on BiCMOS logic circuits represented different types from that on CMOS. This paper proposes new test method which detects short faults on BiCMOS logic circuits using current path graph. Proposed method transforms BiCMOS circuits into raph constructed by nodes and edges using extended switch-level model and separates the transformed graph into pull-up part and pull-down part. Also, proposed method eliminates edge or add new edge, according ot short faults on terminals of transistor, and can detect short faults using current path graph that generated from on- or off-relations of transistor by input patterns. Properness of proposed method is verified by comparing it with results of spice simulation.
This paper presents a modified mean curvature diffusion filter to smooth speckle noise in images. Mean curvature diffusion filter has already shown good results in reducing noise in images while preserving fine details. In the mean curvature diffusion, the rate of smoothing is controlled by the local value of the diffusion coefficient chosen to be a function of the local image gradient magnitude. In this paper, the diffusion coefficient is modified to be controlled adaptively by local image surface slope and heterogeneity. The local surface slope contributes to preserving details (e.g.edges) in image and the local surface heterogeneity helps the smoothing filter consider the amount of noise in both edge and non-edge area. The proposed filter's performance is demonstrated by quantitative experiments using speckle noised aerial image and TerraSAR-X satellite image.
