This paper as a sequel to Kang et al. (1994) describes the development of a three-dimensional nonlinear Galerkin-FEM model. Nonlinear advective terms have been incorporated in a manner used by Lardner and Song (1992), that is, using velocities at given nodes computed with linear Galerkin FEM model. The Proposed model is computationally more efficient than previous nonlinear Galerkin models developed by Owen (1980) and Davies (1980) because the model uses a linear shape function as a basis and, furthermore, the similarity transform technique developed by Kang (1994). Two experiments have been carried out to examine effects of nonlinear terms. One is an experiment of wind-driven current in a rectangular basin (Heaps' basin) and the other is an experiment concerning eddy generation behind a jetty with specified downstream and upstream open boundary conditions. The computed Pattern was found to be in good agreement qualitatively with previous model experiments by Stelling (1984).

In a concentric magnetic gear, which replaces the teeth of a mechanical gear with a permanent magnet, the polar ratio of the magnet that determines the reduction ratio affects the behavior of the magnetic gear dramatically. This study analyzed the density of transmission torque, the efficiency of torque considering the solid loss, and the torque quality, including the cogging characteristics using finite element analysis. When the pole number on the driving side was changed from two to five, it was confirmed that there was an optimal pole ratio, in which the transmission torque was maximized. Because eddy current generation density is proportional to the magnetic field, the transmission efficiency also shows a similar tendency to the transmission torque density, and the efficiency is more than 95% at a low gear ratio. The cogging characteristics due to the interaction of the permanent magnets with the limited number of poles are inversely proportional to the least common multiple between the number of magnets on the drive side and the number of modulator teeth. A test model was built for the transmission torque evaluation.

In this paper, effect of ceramic processing was investigated on the magnetic properties of low loss Mn-Zn ferrite. High frequency characteristics, high saturated magnetic flux density and high magnetic permeability and low magnetism loss are required for the development of Mn-Zn ferrite, which is parts in the communication. therefore, in order to improve Mn-Zn ferrite with a high frequency , it is important to have a minimal change of particles and to control the eddy current loss caused by high resistance of the stratum of particles and to reduce the hysteresis loss by uniform change of detailed structure. In this paper, we added $V_2O_5\;and\;CaCo_3$ to Mn-Zn Ferrite to achieve a high efficiency, low loss core material. The compositions are MnO : ZnO : $Fe_2O_3$ = 21 : 10 : 69 mol%. They were sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for Three hours. Initial permeability was measured at 0.1MHz. At 50mT, Power loss was measured by temperature changing at 100kHz.
To reduce the imbalance of impedance matching between the magnetic metal nanowires and free space, $Fe/TiO_2$ core/shell nanowire arrays with different diameters were fabricated in the templates of anodic aluminum oxide membranes by electrodeposition. The influences of the microstructure on the microwave absorption properties of the $Fe/TiO_2/Al_2O_3$ composites were studied by the transmission/reflection waveguide method. It was demonstrated experimentally that both the interfacial polarization and the diameter of the $Fe/TiO_2$ core/shell nanowires have critical effects on the microwave absorption properties. We also investigated the angle dependence of the microwave absorption properties. Due to the interfacial polarization and associated relaxation, the $Fe/TiO_2/Al_2O_3$ composites exhibited optimal microwave absorption properties when microwave propagation direction was accordant with the axis of the nanowires. Finally, we managed to obtain an optimal reflection loss of below -10 dB (90% absorption) over 10.2-14.8 GHz, with a thickness of 3.0 mm and the minimum value of -39.4 dB at 11.7 GHz.
High-speed rotating machinery requires low cost and reliable bearing elements with low friction, stable rotordynamic characteristics, and a simple design. This study experimentally evaluates the effects of bearing-support elements on the vibrational characteristics of a small-sized, high-speed permanent magnetic motor. A series of coast down tests from 100 krpm characterize the vibrational behaviors, rotor displacement, and housing acceleration of motors supported by ball bearings, ball bearings with a metal mesh damper, and gas foil bearings, respectively. Two eddy-current sensors installed in the horizontal and vertical directions measure the displacement of the rotor at its front nut, and a 3-axis accelerometer attached to the motor housing measures the housing acceleration. The test results reveal that synchronous (1X) vibration components most significantly affect the rotor displacement and housing acceleration, independent of the bearing-support elements. The motor supported by the deep-groove ball bearings results in the largest rotor vibrations increasing with speed; this is due to the absence of a damping mechanism. Additionally, the metal mesh damper effectively reduces the rotor displacement, housing acceleration, and sound-pressure level in the high-speed region (i.e., above 40 krpm), thus implying its substantial damping performance when installed on the outer race of the ball bearing. Lastly, the gas foil bearing supported motor yields the smallest rotor displacement, housing acceleration, and lowest sound-pressure level because of its hydrodynamic airborne operation, which does not require rolling elements that may cause mechanical friction and vibrations.
Superconducting Electrodynamic suspension(EDS) system is generated by the interaction between the magnetic field made by the induced the eddy current in the ground conductor and the moving magnetic field made by onboard superconducting magnet. The levitation force of EDS system, which is proportional to the strength of the moving magnetic field, becomes saturated according to the increase of the velocity. Especially, the levitation force is influenced by the structure of HTS magnet and ground magnet. This paper deals with the optimal design condition for the HTS levitation magnet. The 3-D numerical analysis with FEM was used to find the distribution of the magnetic field, the optimal coil structure, and the calculation of the levitation force.

In order to prevent shell sticking by providing sufficient lubrication between the strand and the mold, the mold oscillation has been used. Now it is well known that the shape of the oscillation curve has a decisive effect on the surface quality of the cast product. Besides, oscillation parameters such as stroke and frequency are also very important. In order to guarantee that parameters which have been found to be optimal for a certain grade of steel do not change with time, periodical checks of the physical condition of the whole equipment are necessary. The portable mold oscillation analyzer with integrated computer, developed by POSCO, records the movement of the mold in every spatial direction. The system uses the gap sensors to measure the mold movement (displacement ) in the two horizontal directions according to the mold narrow and broad faces and the vertical strokes in the four corners of mold. The gap sensor is a non-contacting minute displacement measuring device using the principle of high frequency eddy current loss. The mold oscillation diagnosis system integrates the gap sensors, their converters and the industrial portable computer with plug-in data acquisition boards. The all programs, such as the fast Fourier transformation module (amplitude and phase spectrums) and harmonic analysis module, was coded by LabVIEW$^{TM}$ software as the graphical language. In an own 'expert module' which is included in the diagnosis program, one can obtain much information about the mold oscillation equipment.
In this paper, accidents in high-voltage overhead distribution lines, which provide stable power supply in the power system, cause inconvenience in life and disruption of production of companies. 22.9 [kV] high-voltage overhead power distribution lines aim to improve reliability and stability, such as damage caused by rain, snow, wind, etc., or electric shock prevention. Therefore, in order to prevent wire disconnection accidents due to deterioration of electrical conductivity or tensile strength due to corrosion of overhead distribution lines, it is necessary to prevent unexpected accidents in the future through regular inspection and repair. In order to diagnose deterioration due to corrosion of distribution lines, a diagnostic system (measuring instrument) is installed on the wires to monitor the condition of the wires. The manager on the ground receives the measured data through ZigBee wireless communication, controls the diagnosis system through the diagnosis system program, and grasps the condition of the overhead distribution line through the measured data and photographed photos, and predicts the life of the wire along with the visual inspection method. developed a program.
This study aims to identify high exposure tasks among the tasks performed in domestic nuclear power plants as a basis for developing training programs to improve the efficiency of workers' work. To this end, we first analyzed the exposure status of radiation work in domestic nuclear power plants. Radiation tasks in nuclear power plants were categorized, collective doses were investigated, and the collective doses were calculated based on the collective doses, and representative high exposure tasks were identified. We found that the collective and individual doses in domestic nuclear power plants are continuously decreasing, but there is an imbalance of exposure among workers. In terms of work classification, nuclear power plants are managed in 236 work codes based on light water reactors and 181 work codes based on heavy water reactors, depending on the work equipment and location. Among the total work codes, 23 codes have an annual average dose exceeding 10 μSv, and based on this, 10 representative high exposure tasks were derived. The representative high exposure tasks were selected as S/G nozzle dam work, S/G debris removal work, nuclear instrumentation system, S/G eddy current detection work, and insulation work. The results of this study are expected to serve as an important basis for reducing the exposure of workers in nuclear power plants and improving work efficiency.

In this study, comparative analysis is performed on the long-term persisted warm eddies that were generated in 2003 (WE03) and in 2014 (WE14) over the East Sea using the HYCOM reanalysis data. The overshooting of the East Korea Warm Current (EKWC) was appeared during the formation period of those warm eddies. The warm eddies were produced in the shallow Korea Plateau region through the interaction of the EKWC and the sub-polar front. In the interior of the both warm eddies, a homogeneous water mass of about $13^{\circ}C$ and 34.1 psu were generated over the upper 150 m depth by the winter mixing. In 2004, the next year of the generation of the WE03, the amount of the inflow through the western channel of the Korea Strait was larger, while the inflow was lesser than its climatology during 2015 corresponding to the development period of the WE14. The above results suggest that the heat and salt are supplied in the warm eddies through the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC), however the amount of the inflow through the Korea Strait has negligible impact on the long-term persistency of the warm eddies. Both of the warm eddies were maintained more than 18 months near Ulleung island, while they have no common feature on the pathways. In the vicinity of the Ulleung basin, large and small eddies are continuously created due to the meandering of the EKWC. The long-term persisted warm eddies in the Ulleung Island seem to be the results of the interaction between the pre-existed eddies located south of the sub-polar front and fresh eddies induced by the meanderings of the EKWC. The conclusion is also in line with the fact that the long-term persisted warm eddies were not always created when the overshooting of the EKWC was appeared.
