The purpose of this study is to examine the demographic, economic, and psychological factors that influence the quality of life (QoL) of the elderly. The data in the 'Survey on the Elderly in 2011', were collected from The Ministry of Health & Welfare and the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. The samples included 3,312 out of the total of 15,146 elderly people aged from 65 to 70 years. Multiple regression analysis and path analysis were used to analyze the research model. The findings are as follows. First, the most critical factor that affected the QoL of the elderly was "subjective standard of living" with other factors including "subjective physical condition level", "depression", "total annual income", "the number of chronic disease", "self-esteem", "economic supports from their adult children", "education level", "living with their adult children or not", "sex", and "home ownership", in that order. Second, based on the path analysis results, the QoL of the elderly was influenced by "subjective physical condition level", "subjective standard of living", "depression", "self-esteem", "total annual income", "education level", and "the number of chronic disease", in that order. In particular, "depression" had a negative direct effect and an indirect effect on the QoL of the elderly, whereas "self-esteem" had a positive direct effect and indirect effect on their QoL. Third, "labor force participation status" did not affect the QoL of the elderly. However, it implied the mediating effect of "self-esteem" and "depression" on their QoL. These results show that demographic, economic, and psychological factors heavily influence the QoL of the elderly. Specifically, "depression" and "self-esteem" turn out to be mediating variables that strongly influence the QoL of the elderly. Also, "labor force participation status" does not have a positive direct effect on the QoL of the elderly but has a positive mediating effect of "depression" and "self-esteem" on their QoL.

Cost containment has become high political issues since financial crisis of the Korean Health Insurance fund in 2000. Korean Government has developed and implemented several measures to reduce the pharmaceutical expenditures. Pharmaceutical economic evaluation can be a tool in decision to allocate scare resource efficiently. In order to increase the quality of economic evaluation for pharmaceuticals, the Korean Health Insurance Review Agency(HIRA) is considering the development of a guideline for economic evaluation. It mandates that pharmaceutical companies could submit the result of an economic evaluation when demanding reimbursement of new pharmaceutical drugs. The purpose of this study is to provide a critical review of the economic evaluations of health care technologies published in the Korean context whether they have been performed according to current guidelines and therefore whether their results are directly useful for decision making. We found there exist important problems and deviation from, good practice' both in the general features of the studies, like the study design and perspective, and in terms of cost measurement and valuation. There are needs to develop clear guidelines and to educate and train researchers in performing economic evaluations.

The problem of system reliability is very important issue in the nuclear power plant, because the failure of its system brings about extravagant economic loss, environment destruction, and quality loss. This paper therefore proposes a normalized scoring model by the qualitative factors order to evaluate the robust reliability of nuclear power plants under uncertainty. Especially, the qualitative factors including risk, functional, human error, and quality function factors for the robust justification has been also introduced. Finally, the analytical reliability and safety assessment model developed in this paper can be used in the real nuclear power plant.

The present study purposed to derive the major attributes of the service quality of port hinterlands from previous research and interviews with specialists, to examine causal relations among the service quality of hinterlands, customer satisfaction, switching barrier and customers' behavior, and to suggest strategic implications. According to the results, the service quality of port hinterlands was divided into 'interaction quality', 'physical environment quality' and 'service delivery quality,' and among the three dimensions of quality, 'physical environment quality' and 'service delivery quality' had a significant effect on customer satisfaction but 'interaction quality' did not. These results suggest directions for what dimensions of quality should be controlled in order to improve the service quality of port hinterlands with limited management resources, and thus they are expected to contribute to more strategic marketing activities upon customers.

Recently, natural disasters have unexpectedly occurred at various places in the world and the countermeasure of them become the social issues. Many of victims in disasters need temporary residential facilities above all things and many of researches have been conducted in order to develop simple, safe, and economic designs of them. Moreover, indoor thermal comfort and air quality must be considered in the facilities against a disaster, because clean and healthy space should be provided to the suffered victims. Recently, there has been growing interest in the financial and economic effectiveness of service quality and customer satisfaction. It means that the final goal of customer satisfaction is the maximization with firms' financial performance, enterprise could survive through the creation of continuous financial performance. Companies are working in various ways to identify the direct relationship of service quality and customer satisfaction with financial and economic effectiveness in order to justify and validate customer satisfaction management. In this study, the influence of customer satisfaction on the financial performance is examined. Customer satisfaction index, the key non-financial performance measure has significant association with firms' financial performance index. Moreover, high customer satisfaction has a competitive advantage, so it can be the key success factor of firm's financial performance improvement.

This research proposes a method for designing VSI (Variable Sampling Interval) control charts with supplementary run rules. The basic idea is to apply various run rules and the VSI scheme to a control chart in order to increase the sensitivity. The sampling process of the VSI run rules chart is constructed by Markov chain approach. A procedure for designing the VSI run rules chart is proposed based on Lorenzen and Vance's model. Sensitivity study shows that the VSI run rules charts outperform the FSI (Fixed Sampling Interval) run rules charts for wide range of process mean shifts. A major advantage of the VSI run rules chart over other charts such as CUSUM, EWMA, and adaptive charts is it's simplicity in implementation. Some useful guidelines are proposed based on the sensitivity study.

This research examined elderly’s quality of life(q/l). In order to explore the elderly’s q/l, it was conceptualized into 8 dimensions tapping macro and micro aspects of elderly’s life: physical & mental health, self-esteem, anxiety, social support, family solidarity, economic state, and physical environment. The primary purposes were to describe dimensions of q/l by the elderly’s sociodemographic variables. And the intercorrelations among q/l dimensions were examined and then the effects of q/l sub-dimensions on psychological well-being were analyzed by using multiple regression. Based on the data collected for 677 subjects residing in rural and urban areas, the basic issues hypothesized were explored. The findings appeared that the psychological well-being was a positive function of physical and mental health, self-esteem, social support, and economic state and a negative one of social anxiety, controlling for subjects’s sociodemographic variables.

Today, Organizations should be equipped with flexibility in order to cope with rapidly changing environment in management. Besides, it is also important to find out the quality of EA and some risk factors caused by the organizations that receive an order. Lastly, it is absolutely important to verify the relationship between such factors and outcomes of EA. In this aspect, this study will verify risk factors made by the former organizations and investigate the quality of EA and its outcome by proving the said relationship. In doing so, it will suggest an appropriate direction for the companies that will build up or perform EA successfully.

There have been significant improvements in base oil quality in order to satisfy recent market needs. In particular requirements of passenger car motor oils have been leading the trend. Now, high quality base oils such as VHVI base oils and PAOs are to be formulated in order to meet the tight volatility specifications. The severe hydrocracking, hydro-isomerized dewaxing and hydro-finishing process with noble-metal based catalysts (named UCO lube process) developed by SK corporation has been introduced as one of economic hydroprocessing routes to produce high quality VHVI base oils and food grade white mineral oils from fuels hydrocracker residue. Product quality of UCO lube process is similar to PAO in. general performances and therefore provides satisfactory performance far all straightforward applications in general lubricants. However, when applied to specialty lubricants like transformer oils, spray oils and coning oils, severely hydrocracked base oils are known to have various compatibility problems with gas or surfactants formulated in them. These problems are related to the difference in their composition; inherent high paraffin contents and lack of dissolving ability, Fortunately, it was found that excellent specialty lubricants could be made by carefully selecting and formulating adequate additives and/or aromatic compounds. Moreover, these specialties with high quality VHVI base oils ofter various advantages over conventional base oil based products.
