Exponential smoothing methods do not adapt well to unexpected changes in underlying process. Over the past few decades a number of adaptive smoothing models have been proposed which allow for the continuous adjustment of the smoothing constant value in order to provide a much earlier detection of unexpected changes. However, most of previous studies presented ad hoc procedure of adaptive forecasting without any theoretical background. In this paper, we propose a detection-adaptation procedure applied to simple and Holt's linear method. We derive level and slope change detection statistics based on Bayesian statistical theory and present distribution of the statistics by simulation method. The proposed procedure is compared with previous adaptive forecasting models using simulated data and economic time series data.

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the causes and processes of marital conflicts among intermarried families in Korea. The participants were 19 Korean men and their 19 Filipino spouses, who had experienced domestic violence. Their marital conflicts seemed to result from their lack of information about each other due to the short-term courtship, from the marital inequality based on the wives' lower economic status, and from the mother-in-law's interference in their marital relationships. Korean men showed ambivalent feelings about their wives' adaptation to Korean society. They wanted their wives to team Korean culture but worried that their young and educated wife might leave them, which could be called as "the fairy and woodman syndrome." The exploratory view of the study highlights the important psychosocial and cultural aspects of marital conflicts, and suggests the supporting systems for the intermarried families in Korea.

Environmental differences across countries such as socio-cultural, political, economic, and technological differences require business strategies of multinational corporations to vary business practices across regions. Despite the keen awareness of the necessity for strategic adaptation to local context, IS management and strategy tend to remain similar across countries. One of the reasons is to maintain the stability and compatibility of information technology infrastructure. After a careful observation of retail business practice, this study finds IS strategy should also be highly responsive to the local context. This study shows how information resources including systems architecture, processes, human resources, and national context are interlinked together. Despite global excellence in general systems management, failure in such alignment can be a serious problem in extending competitive advantages across regions. This study aims to reveal issues to be taken care of in order to accomplish global technological alignment. Results of this study provide senior management with guidelines and a framework for aligning IT with regional strategic thrust that can improve local responsiveness of multinational companies.

휘드훠워드 선형 전력 증폭기에 사용하는 적응형 주 신호 제거회로의 주 신호 제거 특성을 해석하였으며 선형 증폭기의 특성을 개선하기 위한 주 신호 제거 오차 제어방법을 제안한다. 이 해석을 통해 정상상태에서 주 신호 제거 율을 정확하게 예측함으로써 부 증폭기의 규격조건 및 주 증폭기의 백 오프 조건 등을 계산할 수 있으며 효율 및 경제성을 고려한 휘드훠워드 선형 증폭기의 최적설계가 가능하다.

The purpose of this study is to develop and adapt indicators for the rural community assessment. Bearing in mind, indicators are derived from the various theoretical literature review and the efficiency of the indicators has been tested through comparing and evaluating 3 different rural communities which was selected based on their distance from Seoul. In order to assess a rural development project, the assessment indicators should include at least 5 domains of natural environment, socio-economic, quality of living environment, community characteristics, public participation, which are the basic formation of indicators of this study. Furthermore, this approach could be a ground for the environmentally friendly rural development planning.

The process of political and economic transformation of Germany following reunification has been well documented, but the question of psychological reunification is addressed by the present study. In order to analyze how East German adolescents adapted to the changing socialization context following reunification, questionnaires on values orientation, self-efficacy, subjective well being, coping, attitude toward violence and toward reunified German society were administered to 149 high school students. Results indicated that subjects had high scores on value orientation in private life and used active coping strategies. They had high scores in self-efficacy and subjective well being. Their political attitudes were complex and diverse. There were group differences by gender and type of school attended.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and caregiving behavior in families who awarded on filial piety. Using the qualitative method 137 families and social supports to them were analyzed,. The major findings can be summarized as follows (1) Most of caregivers were daughter-in -law over 40 years in 3-generation or 2-generation family. Elderly can be characterized as oldest-old dependent long-term care for more than 10 years. (2) These families showed very high family solidarity with strong collectivity. (3) Their economic emotional and service cares were family-centered with helps from their extended family. These families were supported emotional helps rather than instrumental helps from social network. It was concluded that to help family elder care social support program for the frail elder caregiving families should be complemented in their children support program family life enrichment program for the inter-generational relationship medical care program other social network program and religion program etc. And more concrete and qualified study for the adaptation of filial piety families should be followed.

The paper deals with recent paradigm shift in German environmental policy, fundamentally modifying the German society towards a sustainable future development. Key elements of this development are forceful climate protection measures to contribute to global climate protection strategy and to fulfil international conventions, supplemented by a comprehensive strategy to promote the adaptation to climate change, the nuclear power phase out in the medium term, and innovative landscape and regional planning projects to strengthen regional identity and economic power. All this components are,complemented by a financial support program including incentives, tax reductions, and research funding.

This study aims to search for policy strategies for settlement of North Korean defectors in Korean society, develop strategies based on the results and present their implications. For the purposes, this study set up a cause and effect model referring to previous bibliographical and statistical data. The results are presented as follows: First, to overcome anxiety of exposure in the defectors, personal information should be protected. Second, their psychological problems should be solved and they should be emotionally stable for better adaptation to Korean society. Third, keeping in mind that North Korean defectors are Korean people, the issue of nationality should be institutionally managed. Fourth, as one of difficulties they have is economic problems, practical support measures should be developed to solve them. Fifth, the federal government and local governments should be active in changing their recognition on them and provide the Korean community education for citizens to resolve cultural differences.

Climate changes have impacted to many sectors including water resources in Vietnam. Vietnam is agricultural development country having more than 6,000 earth dam reservoirs. These reservoirs play a very important role in flow regulation for water supply to economic sectors. In the context of undesirable impacts of climate change such as increasing temparature, evaporation, and changing rainfall and rainfall pattern, water demands and inflow to reservoirs also are being influenced. This leads to changes of resevoir exploitation effects that needs to be assessed for adaptation solutions. This article summarizes evaluations on climate change impacts to 16 reservoirs in 4 regions of North-West, North-East, Central Part, and Central Highland of Vietnam. Research results showed that in the context of climate change, safety of these reservoirs will be decreased from 8% to 20% in both water supply and flood control capacity.
