This study is based on the Ecological Design Theories related with the Urban space planning. The purpose of this study is to propose the Urban Space Design Method in consideration of Ecological Environment. To achieve this purpose, Normative Theory Study which means Logical Analysis of Ecological Theories in the new field of Ecological Urban Design, is done in accordance with the object of this study. This results derived of this study are as follows: 1. Six(6)-Ecological Urban Planning Elements related with the purpose of this study, are clarified these are Land-use planning, Transformation planning, Plants and Living-thing Ecological System planning, A Culture planning related with water, Energy and resource planning, and Urban-amenity planning. 2. Urban Space Design Method in consideration of Ecological Environment is porposed by means of the Normative theroy study analysis and contents analysis related with Ecological Urban planning which contain Ecological Planning Elements.

After UNECD(United Nations Conference of Environment and Development) in 1992, ESSD (Environmental Sound and Sustainable Development) is an important concept of urban planning in Korea. The introducing environmental assessment system of urban planning and the district unit planning system were representative cases. In this process, Landchaftplanung(ecological landscape planning) was introduced from Germany. This study was executed for applying ecological landscape planning to Eunpyung New Town in Seoul city, and analyzing the problem to apply this system. The process of ecological landscape planning was followed to (1) the site survey, (2) the analysis and assessment of survey data, (3) the establishing ecological landscape planning. Three master architects participated in all investigations. The major fields of them were landscape architecture, architecture, and urban planning. Master Architects helped many aspects. In conclusion, ecological landscape planning was feasible to be applied to develop other New Town in Korea. However the mediation system is very weak, if different situations are confronted with ecological landscape plan and land use plan in the operative legal framework of Korea. Thus, the legislation of mediation system is necessary for an establishment of ecological landscape planning.

This Study aims to find out the planning aspects and detailed techniques in terms of concept of the Ecological Industrial Parks. It consists of the three parts : Firstly, according to theoretical review, this study gives a definition of the concept of ecological industrial parks. Secondly, it institutes planning aspects of ecological industrial parks based on the main concept. Thirdly, 8 case studies show us analysis of detailed techniques used each planning aspects. Ecological industrial parks mean industrial systems which make energy and substance circulated in order to reduce environmental pollutions inside and outside of park like natural ecosystem. To actualize ecological industrial parks, we have to adopt 3 planning aspects which are energy and substance recycling system, environmentally-friendly site planning based on ecology concept, constructing of ecological production and management. In case study, detailed techniques from each planning aspects are shown in table 8. As a result of case study, detailed techniques about planning of energy and substance recycling system is accommodated most. On the other hand, environmentally-friendly site planning techniques based on ecological concept is used passively. And detailed techniques about constructing of ecological production and management are very various as each cases. Finally, in terms of analysis, this study shows us appliable planning when we develop domestic Ecological industrial parks.

The purpose of this study is the practical application of landscape ecological indices to establishment of eco-village planning methodology. Planning an eco-village has to be carried out in the boundary of a small watershed that is defined by homogeneous ecological character. Because the small watershed is a landscape unit it can have unique ecological character. On this viewpoint, the spatial structure is analyzed by the ecological attributes of form, distribution arrangement and composition of the sub-landscape units. Among all of the sub-landscape units, a green tract of land is the main subject of the analyzing entity. Woodland or forest as a green tract of land is a source of biological species and materials. Therefore the ecological attributes of green patches are especially analyzed by landscape ecological indices. The selected landscape ecological indices are elongation, lobes, interior area ratio, convolution of perimeter and proximity of the green patches. These indices represent the state of ecological conditions and they will be the evaluation factors of the landscape ecological planning. These frameworks for landscape ecological planning apply to Obok and Ganggeum villages in Wanju-gun, Korea. A proposed planning was evaluated by the selected landscape ecological indices. Among the selected landscape ecological indices of green patches, perimeter convolution and proximity were increased. It means that the ecological condition of peen paches will be mon sound and green areas of the village will be expanded naturally. In addition to this connectivities among green patches will also be improved.

This study has a purpose of setting applicable ecological environment plan items when establishing city development plan. To achieve this purpose, multiple methods of data gathering, documentary surveys, and questionaries research were used in this study. The main findings of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. The appliance of ecological environment plan is appropriate to apply before the establishment of development plan. 2. The items applicable to ecological environment plan establishment step by step is the following. First, it is necessary to prepare the environment improvement plan and ecology restoration on the stage of assigning the area. Second, on the stage of planning development plan, it is required to set the restoration plan of ecological resources and step by step ecological environment plan. Third, on the stage of plan implementation, it is required to set the maintenance guide on ecological environment. 3. The planning items of ecological environment plan are "geographical features and soil", "water resource", "wind resource", "green resource", "circulation of resource", "usage of nature energy" and "habitats", etc. 4. To apply ecological environment plan to the planning of development, it is necessary to specify the clear concepts and specific plan. 5. This study is limited to select generalized planning items and later on, it is necessary to develop detailed planning contents.

The use of planning support systems in urban planning and management provides objective information that is beneficial in the decision-making stage. The existing planning support system, however, lacks in the consideration of ecological properties. In this study, a planning support system development that is capable of reflecting ecological elements was set as the ultimate goal. This system can support planning processes ranging from ecological potential anaylsis to alternatives designing and stimulation. Additionally, factors such as soil, water, climate, biotope, ecological network and recreation can be handled according to their natural potentials. The establishment and visualization of land use planning that addresses ecological characteristics based on the analyzed results are possible. Therefore, this system could operate as a framework to assist planners and decision makers through a computer-based system to provide useful ecological information and to allow effective decision-making by analyzing, displaying and visualizing ecological spatial data.

The purpose of this study is to emphasize the indispensability and generalization of ecological approach in landscape planning and design, by describing the main ecological principles and the process and method applying them to landscape planning and presenting the case study of ecological planning. Landscape architecture is the science dealing with nature and therefore ecological approach in it cannot be emphasized too much. The main ecological principles that must be considered in landscape planning and design are energy flow, food chains, biogeochemical cycles, limiting factors, carrying capacity and homeostasis, vegetational succession, ecotone and edge effect, ecological niche, etc.. The seven component factors of natural ecosystem are climate, geology, physiography, hydrology, soil, vegetation, wildlife. These seven factors are interrelated by the above mentioned ecological principles. In landscape planning and design process, it is necessary that landscape architect should interpret and assess not only the component factors of natural ecosystem but also the interrelationships and ecological principles immanent in them and apply the data to final plan.

This study aims to identify the structure and system to make close relationship among planning elements, legal regulation and evaluation index toward sustainable development in the ecological housing estate. Through these close relationships the ecological housing estate could get more sustainability. With this consideration, this study consists of following three parts. First, we review the key issues of sustainability in ecological housing which are focused on the energy-efficient planning. Second, we extract the planning elements, legal regulation and evaluation index using the qualitative system dynamics that is found out all phenomenons from viewpoint of closed loop thinking and circular feedback system. Third, we analyse the correlationship among them in terms of energy efficient planning in the ecological housing estate. Finally, we summarize the findings toward sustainability in ecological housing estate through these analysis.

The purpose of this study is to create an approach to architectural planning centered on an Biotop-space Factor, with the purpose of applying environmentally friendly architecture to school buildings. For this, the notion of ecological schools is defined, and possible use of the planning standard is studied as a means by which ecological school planning can be carried out. As a result, ecological schools can be viewed as (1) the field of education, (2) the field of logical community and (3) a stronghold of the ecological environment. And The possible creation of a quantified goal and level at Ecological school planning is also reviewed with the Biotop-space Factor.
