Machine Learning Application to the Korean Freshwater Ecosystems

  • This paper considers the advantage of Machine Learning (ML) implemented to freshwater ecosystem research. Currently, many studies have been carried out to find the patterns of environmental impact on dynamics of communities in aquatic ecosystems. Ecological models popularly adapted by many researchers have been a means of information processing in dealing with dynamics in various ecosystems. The up-to-date trend in ecological modelling partially turns to the application of ML to explain specific ecological events in complex ecosystems and to overcome the necessity of complicated data manipulation. This paper briefly introduces ML techniques applied to freshwater ecosystems in Korea. The manuscript provides promising information for the ecologists who utilize ML for elucidating complex ecological patterns and undertaking modelling of spatial and temporal dynamics of communities.

인간생태학적 접근방법에 의한 소비자행동연구 - 住宅情報探索행동을 중심으로- (A Study on Consumer Behavior by the human Ecological Approach -with Special Attention to housing prepurchasing behavior-)

  • this study has dual purposes; one is to develope a new theoretical framework in consumer behavior area by applying the human ecological approach, and the other is to test the theory empirically area by applying the human ecological approach, and the other is to test the theory empirically by examining prepurchasing behavior of housing. Research methods adopted in this study are library search and survey research with self-administered questionnaires. The statistical methods used in the survey research are factor analysis, chi square test, and multivariate analysis with crosstablulations. According to the human ecological approach, ecological environments are important sources of consumer needs which , in turn, are satisfied by purchasing behavior in the market. Within this theoretical framework, consumers con improve the quality to life by perceving clearly what their needs are thereby making the most possible efficient purchasing decision making. The major findings of the empirical research on the basis of the theoretical framework are as follows; 1) Housing needs significantly vary with different ecological environment. 2) consumer information search behavior does not differ significantly by housing needs. 3) Housing needs turn out to be an intervening variable between ecological environments and consumer information search behavior. the results of this study show that the human ecological approach is useful in consumer behavior studies. The empirical result that consumer needs are not significantly satisfied by consumer behavior suggests a now direction in consumer education.

도시림의 생태학적 진단과 생태적 관리시스템 개발 : 부산시 황령산을 중심으로 (Ecological diagnosis and Development of Ecological Management System of Urban Forest : On Mt. Hwangryung in Pusan, Korea)

  • The forest vegetation established on Mt. Hwangryung located in Pusan, southern Korea was analyzed through phytosociological procedure. Vegetation of the study area was categorized into 14 communities, 16 groups, and 13 subgroups. Vegetation units obtained from such an analysis were shown in a detailed vegetation map (scale 1:5,000). Ecological characteristics of each vegetation unit were discussed on the basis of the principle of restoration ecology. From those results, it was confirmed that some introduced vegetation under excessive artificial interference was in unstable state and then ecological restoration was needed. On the other hand, ecological information and management systems to maintain the urban forest as ecologically healthy state were developed using GIS.

u-Eco City에서의 정보보호 정책 (Information Security Policy in Ubiquitous-Ecological City)

  • 본 논문에서는 u-Eco(ubiquitous ecological) City에서의 정보보호 정책을 제시한다. 이를 위하여 먼저, 다양한 유비쿼터스 도시의 정의를 살펴보고 u-Eco City의 개념, 주요 서비스 및 추진 과제를 정리한다. 그리고 유비쿼터스 서비스를 제공하기 위해 중추적인 역할을 수행하는 통합운영센터의 프레임워크를 제시하고, 센터에서의 개인정보 및 사생활 보호, 데이터 보호, 망설비 보호와 관련된 요구사항을 분석한다. 기존 정보보호 알고리즘과 달리 u-Eco City에서 운영되는 USN(ubiquitous sensor network)에서 정보의 수집, 가공 및 제공시 경량화된 암호화 알고리즘을 이용한 정보보호 기술(블록/스트림 암호화, 의사난수 생성기, 해쉬함수 및 공개키 암호화 등)이 요구되며 개인정보의 기밀성과 인증성을 보장해주기 위한 정책이 사전에 마련되어야 함을 알 수 있다.

Current status and characteristics of the Ecological and Natural Map in the Republic of Korea

  • The integration and management of various national ecological assessments are essential for the benefit of the public. In the Republic of Korea, the Ecological and Natural Map (ENM) serves as a comprehensive platform that synthesizes the results of national ecosystem surveys into a unified system interface. To provide the current status and characteristics of our policy, we analyzed the ENMs and related appeals from 2014 to 2022. Following their implementation, the ENM Guidelines underwent nine revisions, with most of the revisions pertaining to appeals. Nine public announcements were made regarding the ENM, resulting in a gradual expansion of the conservation area. The data also showed a consistent increasing trend in appeals. Most of the 1st-grade areas in the ENM regions where appeals were filed have significantly decreased. The larger area or the smaller population density of an administrative distinct, the more appeals were filed. Our study presents information regarding the current status of the ENM system. The analysis of the operational direction and indicator trends across the 16-year period since the establishment of the system provides valuable insights for similar systems.

GIS based Carrying Capacity Assessment for National Parks

  • A GIS application for assessment of carrying capacity for national parks was developed and presented in this study. Three criteria--ecological factors, facilities, and institutions--were employed as determining factors for assessing the carrying capacity. Using the GIS-based approach, the site-specific carrying capacity for the Chi-Ri National Park was assessed and a carrying capacity map was prepared. This carrying capacity map can be helpful in making policies for decentralizing visitors and keeping the park environmentally stable.

주산지 기상정보를 활용한 주요 채소작물의 단수 예측 모형 개발 (Development on Crop Yield Forecasting Model for Major Vegetable Crops using Meteorological Information of Main Production Area)

  • The importance of forecasting agricultural production is receiving attention while climate change is accelerating. This study suggested three types of crop yield forecasting model for major vegetable crops by using downscaled meteorological information of main production area on farmland level, which identified as limitation from previous studies. First, this study conducted correlation analysis with seven types of farm level downscaled meteorological informations and reported crop yield of main production area. After, we selected three types of meteorological factors which showed the highest relation with each crop species and regions. Parameters were deducted from meterological factor with high correlation but crop species number was neglected. After, crop yield of each crops was estimated by using the three suggested types of models. Chinese cabbage showed high accuracy in overall, while the accuracy of daikon and onion was quiet revised by neglecting the outlier. Chili and garlic showed differences by region, but Kyungbuk chili and Chungnam, Kyungsang garlic appeared significant accuracy. We also selected key meteorological factor of each crops which has the highest relation with crop yield. If the factor had significant relation with the quantity, it explains better about the variations of key meteorological factor. This study will contribute to establishing the methodology of future studies by estimating the crop yield of different species by using farmland meterological information and relatively simplify multiple linear regression models.

생태미학 연구의 개념화 및 방법론 탐구 (Establishing a Research Framework for Ecological Aesthetics: A Methodological Review)

  • 환경설계는 우리 사회의 생태적, 미적, 사회적 가치들의 조율을 추구하지만, 생태적 가치와 미적 가치는 쉽게 조율되기에는 복잡한 관계를 지닌다. 생태미학이라는 분야는 생태적으로 건강하고, 미적으로도 매력적인 경관설계를 그 목표로 경관의 지속가능성과 미학의 관계에 대해 탐구한다. 이러한 복잡한 관계를 다루는 학문 영역의 중요성에도 불구하고, 극히 일부의 연구들이 생태미학과 관련된 주제를 경험적 방법을 통해 연구했다. 본 연구는 생태미학의 기존 개념을 정리하고, 이를 연구방법론과 연결하고자 했다. 이를 위해 첫째, 경관과 대중의 인식과의 관계를 나타내는 개념적 틀을 생태 미학적 관점에서 재정의했다. 이 관계에서 특히 디자인 및 정보가 개입하여 나타나는 조절 효과에 대해 보여준다. 이 틀로부터 도출되는 세 가지 하위 주제는 다음과 같다. (1) 생태적 기능과 경관 선호도의 상호관계, (2) 경관중재: 생태적 기능도 보호하고, 미적 가치도 확보할 수 있는 절충된 디자인 전략, (3) 정보중재: 생태에 대한 정보가 미적 경험에 미치는 중재 효과가 그것이다. 세 가지 주제는 개념적 틀에서 보여지듯, 서로 영향을 주고받는 관계이며, 각 영역의 연구 시 다른 영역의 고려가 필요하다. 세 가지 하위 주제에 따라 기존의 이론적, 실증적 연구들을 방법론적 관점에서 검토하고, 한계를 지적하며, 보완 가능한 방법론 등을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 그 동안 해석적이고 이론적인 담론에 그쳐왔던 생태미학을 개념적 틀을 통해 정리하고, 각 영역을 넘어선 방법론적 고려를 제시함으로써 생태미학의 방법론을 보완하는데 그 의의가 있다.

환경공간정보와 InVEST Carbon 모형을 활용한 탄소저장량 추정 방법에 관한 연구: 세종시를 중심으로 - 생태·자연도, 국토환경성평가지도, 도시생태현황지도를 대상으로 - (A Study on the Estimation Method of Carbon Storage Using Environmental Spatial Information and InVEST Carbon Model: Focusing on Sejong Special Self-Governing City - Using Ecological and Natural Map, Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map, and Urban Ecological Map -)

  • Climate change is considered a severe global problem closely related to carbon storage. However, recent urbanization and land-use changes reduce carbon stocks in terrestrial ecosystems. Recently, the role of protected areas has been emphasized as a countermeasure to the climate change, and protected areas allow the area to continue to serve as a carbon sink due to legal restrictions. This study attempted to expand the scope of these protected areas to an evaluation-based environmental spatial information theme map. In this study, the area of each grade was compared, and the distribution of land cover for each grade was analyzed using the Ecological and Nature Map, Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map and Urban Ecological Map of Sejong Special Self-Governing City. Based on this, the average carbon storage for each grade was derived using the InVEST Carbon model. As a result of the analysis, the high-grade area of the environmental spatial information generally showed a wide area of the natural area represented by the forest area, and accordingly, the carbon storage amount was evaluated to be high. However, there are differences in the purpose of production, evaluation items, and evaluation methods between each environmental spatial information, there are differences in area, land cover, and carbon storage. Through this study, environmental spatial information based on the evaluation map can be used for land use management in the carbon aspect, and it is expected that a management plan for each grade suitable for the characteristics of each environmental spatial information is required.
