The multi-frequency characteristics of anchovy schools were investigated using six acoustic lines collected at 38 and 120 kHz while a primary trawl survey was conducted from 14 April and 18 April of 2014 in off the coast of Tongyeong and Geo-je. Here, the frequency characteristics mean ${\Delta}MVBS$ that is the difference of Mean Volume Backscattering Strength at two frequencies. To use the characteristics effectively, the optimal cell size ($10{\times}2m$) was determined by examining several different cell sizes in consideration with the shapes of fish schools and the ${\Delta}MVBS$ pattern. By examining 6 histograms of ${\Delta}MVBS$, afternoon groups were occupied more in the ${\Delta}MVBS$ range of -6~-4 dB than that of -4~-2 dB, comparing to morning groups. The ${\Delta}MVBS$ range of the morning groups was between -16.9 dB and 11.6 dB, and that of the afternoon groups -16.7 dB and 13.0 dB. The average and standard deviation were $-3.9{\pm}3.6$ dB in the morning and $-4.1{\pm}3.4$ dB in the afternoon, suggesting that morning groups were 2 dB higher than afternoon groups. The ${\Delta}MVBS$ range of all anchovy schools regardless of morning and afternoon was between -16.9 dB and 13.0 dB, their average ${\Delta}MVBS$ was $-4.1{\pm}3.5$ dB. The characteristics can support to identify anchovy species in the waters where multiple fish species are distributed. It is hoped that this study presents the availability and benefit of acoustic data from a primary trawl survey.
Recently, the population of toxic and/or unusable jellyfish is increasing during summer along the east coast of Korea, causing massive economical and ecological damage to fisheries, nuclear power plant and marine environment. To solve this problem, this study was carried out using jellyfish as a potential soil additive for horticulture. The jellyfish was solidified and homogenized, then mixed with a commercial bed soil. Allium tuberosum ROTH was planted to control bed soil (BS) and jellyfish powder mixed bed soil groups (Mixed bed soil, MBS), and following parameters were measured during five weeks: water content, electrical conductivity and growth of leaves. At the end of the experiment, bacterial community structures of each pot were analyzed by DGGE. The relative water adsorption of jellyfish powder was about 2.5 times greater compared to its dry weight. The water content of MBS group was significantly higher than BS group 6.5 to 14.2%, and the electric conductivity of MBS group was measured around 2.8 dS/m where BS group was resulted average of 1.8 dS/m. However, the leaves of BS group were grown 30% longer compared to MBS group. DGGE analysis of MBS group was shown in high number of phylum Bacteroidetes and increased diversity of Sphingobacteriia compared to BS group. Jellyfish powder as a soil additive surely will be a good candidate as humectant and microbiota stimulator, although there are several obstacles such as high electrical conductivity and residual alum salt which used for solidification of jellyfish.
We investigated the flora of Imja-do(Isl.), an island of the Shinan archipelago, located in Imja-myeon, Shinan-gun, Jollanamo-do and discussed the vascular plants found there. Twenty-four separate field trips (100days) were completed from August of 1997 to October of 2009. As a result, we identified the distribution of 526 taxa in Imja-do(Isl.), comprising 112 families, 331 genera, 463 species, 1 subspecies, 60 varieties, and 2 forms. There are a total of 78 taxa of floristic regional indicator plants and one taxon of level II endangered species, Millettia japonica, as designated by the Korean Ministry of the Environment. The floristic regional indicator plants are as follows; four taxa of level V such as Utricularia bifida, two taxa of level IV such as Cladium chinense, 14 taxa of level III such as Aletris spicata, three taxa of level II, and 55 taxa of level I. In addition, one endangered species (EN), Nymphoides coreana, five vulnerable species (VU),such as Ilex cornuta, and three near-threatened species (NT) such as Utricula riaracemosa, were found in the investigated area. The plants of Imja-do(Isl.) are classified into four types based on the plant geographical origin, as follows: 1) boreal plants advancing southward in a glacial period, 2) temperate plants spreading eastward from the Himalayas and China to Japan passing through the south coast of Korea, 3) subtropical plants, and 4) indigenously developed endemic species of the warm-temperate region of East Asia.

Ascidian, Halocynthia roretzi, mainly inhabiting the subtidal rocky bottom as a sessile form, has been favored a tasty sea food in abundance along the east and south coast of Korea. The study was attempted to establish the basic data for evaluating the processing suitability of ascidian. The height, width, total weight, integument weight and edible portion of the ascidian were $9.2{\sim}12.2cm,\;4.7{\sim}6.1cm,\;100.2{\sim}163.0g,\;18.2{\sim}41.4g$ and $20.2{\sim}62.0g$, respectively. The moisture content, which showed a minimum value as low as $80.0\%$ in October. On the contrary, glycogen content of edible portion revealed the maximum value, $3.1{\sim}4.1\%$ from July to August. The protein and fat showed a similar change to glycogen. The level of ash was rather constant throughout the period, being $2.2{\sim}3.8\%$. Among the 7 kinds of mineral analyzed in all the samples of edible portion and integument, Na, K, Mg and Ca contents were predominent in order being more than $96.14{\sim}99.10\%$, of the total ash. In the amino acid composition of ascidian, the predominent ones were asparagine, glutamic acid, taurine, aspartic acid, proline, and lysine in order and the sum of these amino acids occupied $85.0\%$ of the total free amino acid while methionine and arginine were poor.

The process of yolk absorption and the growth pattern of churn salmon, Oncorhynchus keta alevin were studied. Matured males and females of chum salmon were sampled from the Namdaechun River in the east coast of Korea, and then an artificial fertilization was carried out using their eggs and sperms. Fertilized eggs were incubated in controlled water temperature of $13^{\circ}C$ and samples of 40 alevins were randomly taken at just hatching and at every three days between 12 days alter hatching and yolk absorption. The means of total length and total weight of hatched alevins were respectively 1.97cm and 1.85g and the yolk absorption took about 33 days after hatching, based on the morphological measurement. Growth curves of total length, total weight and somatic weight were fitted well with the Gompertz growth model. However, the shrinking in yolk-sac length, yolk-sac weight, yolk-sac height and yolk-sac volume revealed a linear phenomenon until the absorption of yolk was completed. The relative growth of chum salmon alevin, such as the relationship between total length and total weight, or between total weight and yolk-sac weight, was also studied.
Changes in stock size of the Pacific saury, Cololabis saira, were studied on the basis of fishery statistics compiled from 1964 to 1972 and body size composition of the fish collected from 1968 to 1972. During the period from 1964 to 1972 there was a direct correlation between the stocks of fall (september-february of the following year) and spring (March-August) season. The sizes of stocks in both seasons showed a three-year cyclic change, and the mode of stock in the fall always proceeded one year that in the spring. Exceedingly high fishing effort was observed in the spring as well as the fall of 1967. But very low fishing effort was noticed in the spring of 1969. In spring a large stock size has a high proportion of large sized group. On the other hand, in fall a large stock size tends to have a high proportion of medium sized group instead. When the medium sized group outnumbers the large sized group, stock size becomes larger. In contrast, it tends to be smaller when the large sized group exceeds the medium sized group. The patterns of distribution centroid seems to be related to the amount of fish landings. Northward moving trend of the centroid was accompanied by a large amount of landing, while westward (or north-westward) moving trend was followed by a poor landing of the fish.
Process of resuspension and accumulation well explaines the characteristics of surface sediment size distribution and suspended material in Deukryang Bay. Most of the surface sediments of the bay show asymmetric unimodal size distribution, which is found also in sediments from western part of the inner shelf mud area between Keomundo and Yokchido islands. Investigation of the size curves indicates that surface sediment in Deukryang Bay is a deposit of suspended coastal sediment transported east along southern coast of Korea. The distribution pattern of coarse sit fraction content in the surface sediment is very similar to that of computed current velocity (Lee, 1994), suggesting that fine sediment on the bed may reassumed and accumulate repeatedly due to shallow depth and strong tidal current in Deukryang Bay. The process of repeated resuspension and accumulate repeatedly due to shallow depth and strong tidal current in Deukryang Bay. The process of repeated resuspension and accumulation seems to be responsible not only to the asymmetric size distribution of the surface sediment, but also to the amount of suspended material in the bay. The difference of suspended material concentration between surface and near bottom water in summer is two times as large as that the in winter. This seems to derive from the fact that stratification of water mass prevails in summer, while total water mass is vertically mixed in winter. It was found that the most important factors to decide distribution of suspended material in Deukryang Bay are the physical properties of water mass such as current velocity and stratification, and water depth, in part with the supply of suspended sediment by rivers.
This study was carried out in order to identify the biochemical and serological characteristics of Edwardsiella tarda isolated from cultured flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus in the east and south coast of Korea. During the year of 1990 and 1991, the number of isolated E. tarda were 131 strains. To identify the biochemical characteristics of them kinds of tests were conducted. The results represented that all the strains had the same biochemical characteristics, and their biochemical characteristics were no differences among strains. A serological analysis was carried out based on agglutination test with antiserum belonging to E. tarda serotype a (E-22), b (SU-138), c (SU-100) classfied in japan. The selected 10 isolates showed agglutinin titer of 5120-2560, 40-80 and below 40 against E. tarda serotype a, b and c, respectively. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE) profiles of cell proteins of selected 10 isolates were showed no differences in kinds and volumes of proteins among strains.

To examine the behavior of yellow tail Seriola quinqueradiata and of file fish Navodon modestus to set net, the 1/30 scale model net of the actual set net used in the east coast of Korea was made of netting and set in the indoor experimental tank(700cm W$\times$700cm L$\times$100cm D), of which the water depth was kept 70cm. Total length of yellow tail examined were 37~45cm and file fish were 18~21cm. The fishes were released as groups of 3 to 20 individuals. The number of fish entered into the pound net or the bag net, escaped from the net was counted every minute and accumulated for 10minutes to check the ratio entered and the ratio escaped. The result obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. In case of yellow tail, even though the ratio entered into the pound net was not so high, that into the bag net was comparatively high. Traces of the fish swimming were comparatively smooth and both entering into the pound net and escaping from it was easily done. 2. In case of file fish, even though the ratio entered into the pound net was higher than that of yellow tail, that into the bag net was lower than that into the pound net. Traces of the fish swimming were roundly meandered. Entering into the bag net was not so smoothly done, even though that into the playground was smoothly done. 3. Both yellow tail and file fish, the ratio escaped from the bag net was almost0 and that from the pound net was less than 10%.

Distribution of ichthyoplankton in the adjacent waters to Kori were surveyed during the period from April, 1991 to January, 1992. The dominant fish eggs included the eggs of Engraulis japonica, Maurolicus muelleri, Callionymus spp. and others. The eggs of Engrualis japonica and Maurolicus muelleri were $79.52\%$ and $1.86\%$ of the total eggs abundance, respectively. A total of 15 taxa of fish larvae were found. The dominant species was Engraulis japonica accounting for $52.39\%$ of the total larvae and followed by Callionymidae fish($29.36\%$). Other major species were Stephanolepis cirrhifer($6.30\%$), Sebastes schlegeli($3.16\%$), Ammodytes personatus($1.33\%$) and Girella punctata($1.70\%$). These 6 taxa constituted $94.30\%$ of the total larvae collected. In this area, distributions of warm water had a great influence on larvae and juvenile distribution which usually is along the coast and the other places where there layer water movements since, upwelling in the open sea affects ichthyoplankton distribution.
