In this study, considering the expansion/contraction behavior of the upper structure at all times and the abnormal behavior of the receiving friction elements that allow horizontal movement during earthquakes, a port receiving test body simulating the protrusion of the friction elements was created and the modulus performance was evaluated. In order to confirm the influence of the friction element's projection, the friction element's degree of separation was divided into four stages, and the shear behavior of the test specimen and the friction coefficient were confirmed. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the friction load increases as the protrusion degree of the friction element increases. On the other hand, as the degree of protrusion of the coefficient of friction increases, the coefficient of friction also increases. It was confirmed that damage to the friction elements during use increases the coefficient of friction, hinders smooth expansion and contraction of the upper structure, and causes stress concentration at the fixed-end support.

This study was conducted to investigate the seismic behavior assessment of circular reinforcement concrete bridge piers particularly with regard to assessing the displacement ductility curvature ductility response modification factor(R) and plastic hinge region etc, The experimental variables of bridge piers test consisted of transverse steel details amount and spacing different axial load levels etc. The test results indicated that reinforcement concrete bridge piers with confinement steel by the code specification exhibited suffcient ductile behavior and seismic performance. Also it is found that current seismic design code specification of confinement steel requirements may be revised.

The characteristics on non linear behavior and the failure mechanism of RC space frame structure serving railway under seismic action have been investigated by numerical analysis in time domain. The structure concerned is modeled in 3 dimensional extent and RC frame elements with fibers are employed. Fibers are characterized as RC one and PL one to distinguish different energy release after cracking. Due to deviation of mass center and stiffness center of entire structure the complex behavior under seismic action is shown. The excessive shear force is concentrated on the pier beside flexible one relatively, which leads to failure of bridge concerned.

Shaking table tests were performed to investigate dynamic behavior of a three dimensional flexible rectangular liquid storage tank. Response characteristics to the three components of translational motion and three component of rotational motion were studied. The aluminium tank was exposed to the shaking high enough to make it behave in nonlinear range. Only very limited amount of the data have been processed yet. Very interesting phenomena on the effects of non-symmetry have been observed and presented. Test results that show nonlinear behavior under the high intensity shaking are reported.
The objective of this study is to investigate the results of researches which have been conducted throughout the world and in Korea concerning the behavior modes of masonry infill panels and frames. The influence of masonry infill panels on the seismic behavior of RC frames must be considered in the design and evaluation procedure though current code provisions do not generally require explicitly this consideration. However, since the level of the earthquake intensity in Korea is assumed to be moderate, the masonry infill panels may cause the different effect to the structure from those in high seismicity region and this difference should be studied in depth in the future.

Behavior characteristics of coil shaped elastoplastic dampers, a sort of hysteretic damper, are studied on through experiments and numerical analyses. The coil shaped elastoplastic damper shows bilinear force-deformation relationship, and no stress concentration is occurred in the device. Numerical model, which is constructed through calibration with experimental results, shows good agreement with experiment, The coil shaped elastoplastic damper has lower yielding strength and stiffness under transversal loading compared to axial leading. Additional studies are required on behavior characteristics according to configuration variation of coil shaped elastoplastic dampers.
This paper proposes the concept and the general framework of the risk-based seismic design. Because earthquakes and the behaviors of structures are very unpredictable, probabilistic seismic design methods have been proposed after deterministic design methods. Considering these changes, we can find that the important point of seismic design is not the structural behavior itself, but the consequence of structural behavior under possible earthquakes. Risk-based seismic design can tell these consequences under any earthquakes. In this paper, structural confidences are considered by using fragility curve, and risk is modeled by failure probability and consequence-property damage cost, casualty cost.
In this study, the shaking table tests of block systems on the rigid base have been performed to identify the seismic response and the dynamic behavior of the piled multi-block systems. To understand the characteristics of seismic response of piled multi-block systems, it is necessary to understand the dynamic behavior of single block system. Therefore, the skating table test of the single block system has been performed first. Moreover, by performing the shaking table tests of multi-block systems, the characteristics of dynamic behavior of piled multi-block systems have been analyzed. Also in this study, the distinct element method(DEM) has been used to analyze the nonlinear behavior of the piled multi-block systems. The results of the shaking table tests show that the response of the multi-block systems is very complicated. But by using DEM, the behavior of piled multi-block systems has been predicted and described well.
This study presents an experimental study of the structural behavior for steel plate-concrete column-to-steel girder connections. Experiments were carried out to investigate the moment-rotation characteristics, failure behavior and ultimate moment capacity of these connections. The results of this experimental study involving three welded moment-resisting connections subjected to cyclic loading are presented. The specimens were fabricated at full scale to evaluate their hysteretic behavior. A description of the test specimens, the details of the joint, the test system and the testing methods are described. The test results showed that the structural behavior of these composite connections was influenced by the connection details.
The child pick-up behavior of parents during an emergency can cause heavy traffic congestion and failing to evacuate an affected area successfully. In this study, we analyzed the effect of child pick-up behavior using, as an example, a nuclear power plant accident caused by an earthquake, which is a typical no-notice emergency. A quake was assumed to occur near the Shin-Kori nuclear power plant in Ulsan, Korea, resulting in a nuclear power plant accident. An agent-based dynamic simulation model using VISSIM was employed to conduct sensitivity analyses with different child pick-up rates. The results confirmed that parents are a major cause of congestion and a vulnerable class in an emergency evacuation. The child pick-up behavior caused significant traffic congestion, and parents who pick up their children showed a higher evacuation failure rate.
