싸락눈 종단 속도의 불확실성이 구름 모의에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Uncertainty in Graupel Terminal Velocity on Cloud Simulation)

  • In spite of considerable progress in the recent decades, there still remain large uncertainties in numerical cloud models. In this study, effects of uncertainty in terminal velocity of graupel on cloud simulation are investigated. For this, a two-dimensional bin microphysics cloud model is employed, and deep convective clouds are simulated under idealized environmental conditions. In the sensitivity experiments, the terminal velocity of graupel is changed to twice and half the velocity in the control experiment. In the experiment with fast graupel terminal velocity, a large amount of graupel mass is present in the lower layer. On the other hand, in the experiment with slow graupel terminal velocity, almost all graupel mass remains in the upper layer. The graupel size distribution exhibits that as graupel terminal velocity increases, in the lower layer, the number of graupel particles increases and the peak radius in the graupel mass size distribution decreases. In the experiment with fast graupel terminal velocity, the vertical velocity is decreased mainly due to a decrease in riming that leads to a decrease in latent heat release and an increase in evaporative cooling via evaporation, sublimation, and melting that leads to more stable atmosphere. This decrease in vertical velocity causes graupel particles to fall toward the ground easier. By the changes in graupel terminal velocity, the accumulated surface precipitation amount differs up to about two times. This study reveals that the terminal velocity of graupel should be estimated more accurately than it is now.

  • The effects of the terminal fall velocity-diameter relationship for raindrops, which is prescribed based on the measurement, on the simulated surface precipitation over Korea during summer season were investigated in our study. Two rainfall cases, 1-month summer precipitation and mesoscale rainfall, have been simulated using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. The selected cloud microphysics parameterizations are WRF Single-Moment 5-class (WSM5) and WRF Single-Moment 6-class (WSM6) in the WRF model. The measured terminal fall-diameter relationship for raindrops by Gunn and Kinzer (1949) was applied in both WSM5 and WSM6. The sensitivity experiments with WSM5 and WSM6, applying the measured fall-diameter relationship, presents the different responses in simulated precipitation amount for the 1-month summer precipitation case. Precipitation increases with WSM5, thus enhancing the precipitation statistical skills. However, precipitation decreases with WSM6 leading to the deterioration of precipitation statistical skills. For the mesoscale rainfall case, precipitation increases with both WSM5 and WSM6, which further enhances the positive bias in precipitation amount.

Performance Evaluation of Early Streamer Emission Lightning Air Terminal

  • Studies have claimed that ESE (Early Streamer Emission) air terminals offer a vastly increased zone of protection over that of traditional lightning rods (Franklin rods) by causing the emission of an upward streamer/leader: The upward streamer/leader will propagate towards the tip of the downward leader at an early stage in the attachment process.. This paper shows the results of a performance evaluation test of a particular type of the ESE air terminal (called "ElecHippo") with a simple rod tested at the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). The corona emission current of the ElecHippo made by Yong-Jin Enterprise Corp. has also been measured at the Occupational Safety & Health Research Institute (OSHRI). The results show that the ElecHippo meets the French standard of NFC 17-102-1995. The results also verify the ESE performance by measuring the ion emission current generated in the discharge electrode gap as a function of the capacitance and inductance of the equipped devices. Finally, we propose a new method for grounding the system to reduce the lightning damage by combining the ESE air terminal, the early discharge earth plate, the lightning strike recorder and the surge protection device.

UHF 대역 장거리 항공 통신 시험의 전파 손실 분석 (Analysis of UHF-Band Propagation Loss in Long-distance Air-to-Ground Communication Tests)

  • 본 논문에서는 지상 수신기와 항공기 탑재 송신기 간의 장거리 통신시험을 통해 UHF 대역의 전파 수신세기를 측정하고 그 결과를 분석하였다. 지상 수신기는 제주도 해발 1,100m 지점에 위치시키고 항공 탑재 송신기는 지상 수신기로부터 150km에서 220km 거리를 3.5km 이상의 고도로 비행하며 시험을 수행하였다. 이 경우 지상 수신기와 항공 송신기는 가시선(LOS ; Line of Sight)이 확보되는 환경이므로 자유공간손실(FSL ; Free Space Loss)을 토대로 결과를 예측하고 분석을 하는 경우가 일반적이다. 하지만 본 시험의 경우 지상 수신기와 항공 송신기 사이에 해수면이 존재하고, 장거리 통신 환경으로 인하여 반사면에 대한 입사각이 매우 작은 조건으로 직접 파의 자유공간손실 만으로는 정확한 예측 및 분석이 불가능하다. 따라서 주변에 장애물이 없고 두 안테나 사이 가시선이 확보되는 조건을 고려하여 평면 반사 모델과 구면 대지 반사 모델을 토대로 경로 손실을 예측하고 실제 시험결과와 비교하였다. 비교 결과, 구면 대지 반사모델에서 예측한 전파경로 손실 값과 실제 측정결과가 매우 유사한 특성을 보였다.

  • There are several types of communication method which is used for the supply of electric power stably. But the communication methods used in KEPCO have weak points in the viewpoint of economy, technology and management. The Satellite communication systems have competitive rover in price and technology for national wide utility owing to its wide area coverage and stability. For better practical use of satellite communication in power industry, we developed the portable satellite communication terminal. This paper presents various functions and composition of the portable terminal for rower industry.

Ka 대역 군위성통신 지상단말 송신기 설계 (Transmitter Design for Earth Station Terminal Operating with Military Geostationary Satellites on Ka-band)

  • 본 논문에서는 Ka 대역에서 정지 궤도 위성과 통신이 가능한 지상 단말 송신기를 미국 국방부에서 권고하는 MILSTD-188-164A 규격을 준수하도록 설계하였다. 설계된 송신기의 안테나는 이중 옵셋 그레고리안 반사판 형상을 사용하여 코러게이트 급전혼, 주름형 편파기와 직교 모드 변환기로 구성하였고, 해당 규격의 방사 패턴과 ESD 패턴, 축비 규격을 만족하도록 설계되었다. 설계된 송신기의 RF부는 Ka 대역으로 주파수를 상향 변환해 주는 상향 변환반과 병렬 구조의 pHEMT MMIC 소자를 이용하여 소형/저전력/경량의 고출력 특성을 갖는 고출력 증폭반으로 해당 규격의 VSWR, 불요파/고조파 억압, 출력평탄도 및 위상 잡음 등의 사양을 만족하도록 설계되었다.

Degradation Analysis of User Terminal EIRP and G/T due to Station-Keeping Variation of Stratospheric Platform

  • Wireless communication systems using airship have been proposed in worldwide. The airship will be located at the stratosphere about $20{\sim}23\;km$ above the sea level. The position of airship will vary within the station keeping range with time due to the drag of the wind in the stratosphere. When the earth station antenna has a high gain without the tracking function, the antenna performance may be degraded by a small variation of the airship. This means that variation of airship location could result in serious degradation of the system performance. In this paper, degradation in earth station's Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) and Gain to noise Temperature ratio (G/T) due to the stratospheric platform movements has been derived by calculating the deviation angle of the main beam directions between the earth station and the platform antenna. In this case, the antenna of the earth station has been assumed circular and/or patch array antennas.

폐 CPU 칩의 해체장치 제작 및 성능 평가 (Manufacture of Dismantling Apparatus for Waste CPU Chip and Performance Evaluation)

  • 본 연구에서는 F-PGA 타입의 CPU 칩과 W-BGA 타입의 CPU 칩을 대상으로 금(Au)의 함량 및 분포 상태를 확인하였다. 그 결과 F-PGA 칩의 경우, 금의 80.8%가 칩 터미널(terminal)부분에, W-BGA 칩의 경우에는 베어다이(bare die)에 금이 89.8% 편재되어 있는 것을 확인하였다. 이와 같이 대부분의 금이 칩의 특정 부분에 존재하는 사실로부터 CPU 칩의 해체장치를 고안하게 되었다. CPU 칩 해체실험의 조작변수는 롤러 회전속도, IR 히터의 가열 온도, 가열 시간으로 하였다. F-PGA 칩의 경우에는 가열 온도 $300^{\circ}C$, 가열 시간 90초 조건, 그리고 W-BGA 칩의 경우에는 롤러속도 90 rpm, 가열온도 $300^{\circ}C$, 가열 시간 180초 조건에서 칩 터미널과 베어다이를 각각 완전하게 분리/회수할 수 있었다.

  • COsmicheskaya Sisteyama Poiska Avariynich Sudov Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (COSPAS-SARSAT) is an international communication support program to perform search and rescue (SAR) operations in emergency situations by using satellite signals relayed from a beacon. The legacy COSPAS-SARSAT was originally composed of low altitude and geostationary Earth orbit satellites; thus, a limited number of directional dish antennas was sufficient to cover the limited number of visible satellites at the local user terminal. However, the second generation COSPAS-SARSAT newly added the medium Earth orbit satellites, e.g., Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to the existing system, so that the number of visible satellites increase dramatically, and the system upgrade to cover all the visible satellites is foreseen. The additional use of planned Korea Positioning System (KPS) to existing GNSS is envisaged to provide a better performance of their SAR service. This paper presents the benefits of the additional use of KPS together with the phased array antennas at the local user terminal of the COSPAS-SARSAT. This is to effectively response to the increase of the number of visible satellites. Numerical simulation is included to evaluate the performance improvement of COSPAS-SARSAT in terms of the number of visible satellites, geometry between satellites and user, and position estimation accuracy.

위성 네트워크를 위한 위치 정보 기반 빔 간 핸드오버 이벤트 성능 분석 (Performance Evaluation of Location-Based Inter-Beam Handover Event for Satellite Networks)

  • 본 논문은 위성 네트워크에서 단말의 서비스 품질을 향상시키기 위하여 단말의 이동성을 고려한 위치 정보 기반 빔 간 핸드오버 이벤트를 제안한다. 단말은 서빙 셀과 이웃 셀 중심 사이의 거리를 실시간으로 측정하고 단말의 이동 속도를 고려하여 핸드오버 이벤트 조건을 만족하는지 확인한다. 성능 분석 결과 기존의 수신 신호 세기 기반 핸드오버 이벤트보다 제안하는 위치 정보 기반 핸드오버 이벤트가 불필요한 핸드오버 트리거 이벤트 발생 빈도를 감소시켜 단말의 서비스 지속성을 향상하는 것을 확인하였다.
