This study analyzed the resistivity characteristic of model block to make the good use of structure grounding and substitution grounding electrode base of building. After making the model block of mortar and concrete block, it measured resistivity in hydrous condition and dry condition and compared with the blocks that is mixed earth resistance lowering agent to decrease resistivity. The resistance value of block accepted much influence by block resistivity. When the block resistivity was same or similar value, the value of soil resistivity has occurred as different as the value of grounding resistance.
Comprehensive field surveys, including various hydrogeological and geophysical methods, were carried out to appraise the applicability of those methods to a leakage problem at the Sandong earth fill dam in southwestern Korea. The methods applied in the fold site were tracer tests, monitoring of drawdown and leakage with discharge of reservoir water, electrical resistivity surveys using the dipole-dipole array, self-potential (SP), and temperature logging methods. The leakage pattern in the reservoir wall was demonstrated by hydrogeological methods and was further clarified by the geophysical surveys. Leakage turned out to be through the right abutment of the reservoir wall. In this study, we conformed that the electrical resistivity method is effective in detecting the zones favorable to leakage, and SP methods are useful for delineating the leakage pathways themselves, because leaks generate strong streaming-potential anomalies.
We have evaluated the extent of saltwater intrusion from electrical resistivity distribution in a coastal aquifer system in the southeastern part of Busan, Korea. This aquifer system is divided into four layers according to the hydrogeologic characteristics and the horizontal extent of intruded saltwater is determined at each layer through the geostatistical interpretation of electrical resistivity data. In order to define the statistical structure of electrical resistivity data, variogram analysis is carried out to obtain best generalized covariance models. IRF-k (intrinsic random function of order k) kriging is performed with covariance models to produce the plane of spatial mean resistivities. The kriged estimates are evaluated by cross validation to show a good agreement with the true values and the statistics of cross validation represented low errors for the estimates. In the resistivity contour maps more than 5 m below the surface, we can see a dominant direction of saltwater intrusion beginning from the east side. The area of saltwater intrusion increases with depth. The northeast side has low resistivities less than 5 ohm-m due to the presence of saline water in the depth range of 20 m through 70 m. These results show that the application of geostatistical technique to electrical resistivity data is useful for assessing saltwater intrusion in a coastal aquifer system.
During tunnel excavation, drawdown of groundwater table or discharge from tunnel faces may not only reduce stability of tunnel and work efficiency but cause environmental problems. We have investigated the applicability of electrical resistivity survey for the establishment of the monitoring system for groundwater behavior and detecting flow channel of groundwater during tunnel excavation. The groundwater level was continuously measured at several points for 1 year. Survey was conduted at every 3 months using preinstalled electrical resistivity cables on site. The results show that observed changes in resistivity ratios in the area can be explained with observed changes in groundwater level. Thus, we believed that electrical resistivity analysed together with groundwater data can be applied for the monitoring of groundwater in tunnel area.
The aim of this paper is development of resistivity seismic dilatometer (RSDMT) system. The resistivity module for obtaining apparent resistivity depth plot and seismic module for obtaining shear wave velocity (Vs) depth plot are attached to the conventional flat dilatometer testing equipment. From shear wave velocity profile, the stiffness at low strains of a site can be evaluated in undisturbed condition. And the resistivity value contains some information about water content and mineral characteristics of clayey soil. Specially manufactured resistivity and seismic modules were connected between commercialized DMT blade and drilling rod. To enhance reliability and repeatability of RSDMT test, automatic testing system including notebook based data acquisition system and automatic surface source system were developed. RSDMT system can be performed rapidly and can obtaine more reliable data at the same point compared with the separated testing system. The verification studies for the developed RSDMT system are going to be performed. From these studies, the effectiveness of integrated hybrid testing system will be checked in light of proper evaluation of geotechnical design parameters of clayey soils.
Electrical resistivity of a rock-sample is dependant on not only formation factor of rock itself but also many parameters such as fluid type, measuring device, temperature, water saturation, electrical contact between electrode and core section, induced polarization, and frequency of electric source. In this study, we attempt to verify various affecting factors in core resistivity measurements and to find a better environment for core resistivity measurement. Particularly great attention has been paid to understanding the effects of temperature, water saturation, contact condition between sample and electrodes, and frequency of electric source. Precise measurement of resistivity can be achieved by utilizing silver paste for better contacts, taping samples for constant moisture contents, and using time-series resistivity data.
Three-dimensional (3D) resistivity method is an effective tool in the engineering site survey because it can provide a 3D resistivity distribution of the site. In this study, we tried to find out faults, fractures and coal seams that can cause the collapse of the tunnel. We carried out 2D resistivity survey along 5 parallel lines and 11 cross lines and merged all the apparent resistivity data for 3D inversion. Finally, from the 3D resistivity image and drilling data we presented the 3D distribution of faults, fractures and coal seams that are considered the main cause of the tunnel collapse.

Hamangun Dohangri $6^{th}$ tumulus was characterized by using geological, geophysical, and geotechnical surveys in terms of the shape of the tombs, origin and geotechnical properties of tomb materials, safety of grave mound and burial chamber. The bedrock (Haman Formation sedimentary rock) forming the ground of the tomb, is weathered such that men can excavate the ground. The mound tomb is classified into soil part and rock part by low resistivity and high resistivity, respectively, through electrical resistivity survey. The burial chamber is mostly made by Haman Formation while some part is composed of granitic rock that is distributed in the most southern district of the study area. According to soil tests, the soil part of mound tomb shows low water content, low pore ratio, and proper unit weight that indicate highly compacted material. Additionally, the mound tomb is safe because the strength of the rock part of the mound tomb exceeds that of general rock.
Specific survey objectives often cannot be met using only one geophysical method, as each method's results are influenced by the specific physical properties of subsurface materials. In particular, areas susceptible to geological hazards require investigation using more than one method in order to reduce risks to life and property. Instead of analyzing the results from each method separately, this work develops a four-quadrant criterion for classifying areas of levees as safe or weak. The assessment is based on statistically determined thresholds of seismic velocity (P-wave velocity from seismic refraction and S-wave velocity from multichannel analysis of surface waves) and electrical resistivity. Thresholds are determined by subtracting the standard deviation from the mean during performance testing of this correlation technique applied to model data of four horizontal and inclined fracture zones. Compared with results from the crossplot of resistivity and P-wave velocity, crossplot analysis using resistivity and S-wave velocity data provides more reliable information on the soil type, ground stiffness, and lithological characteristics of the levee system. A loose and sandy zone (represented by low S-wave velocity and high resistivity) falling within the second quadrant is interpreted to be a weak zone. This interpretation is well supported by the N values from standard penetrating test for the central core.
