  • This study aims to find the architectural concepts of Song-Sun and the spatial structure of the Myonangjong through kasa, sijo, and Chinese poems. He considered his place as a ideal place to dwell a secluded life which is surrounded by mountains, and opened to a field in front. That places is connected with geomancy or Feng Sui, and he attached great importance to placeness of the Myonangjong as a pavilion. As his place was called 'tyoro samgan', his place should be simple, and that was harmonized with nature. He regarded his place as a part of the outside space and its surrounding nature. As the pen name of Myonangjong shows that his way of life is very pure so he need not disgrace against the earth and the sky, he considered his building as a place of embodying the Confucian great law of heaven and earth. Myonangjong has a concentric circle structure of the scenery which is viewed panoramically along with the visual direction.

  • Individual vacuum pressure method is soft ground improvement technique, in which a vacuum pressure can be directly applied to the vertical drain board to promote consolidation and strengthening the soft ground. This method does not require a surcharge load, different to embankment or pre-loading method. In this study, given the inner displacement of the ground where the individual vacuum pressure is applied, this dissertation aimed to reproduce the state of stress in the ground that is subject to the constraints created by the depth of improvement area. Modified Cam Clay theory which made it possible to take into account the isotropic displacement of the ground was applied to the NAP-IVP used simulation; the conception of equivalent permeability proposed by Hird was also applied so that the 3-dimensional real construction effect of drain materials could be reflected in the analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and systematize Jeju dialectal words about Jeju traditional housing culture and study them on the basis of lexical semantics. Vocabularies related to the names of the traditional thatched-roof house and its partial names, thatching, supplementary facilities, housing culture, etc. were categorized after recording in an ethnographic way from Seongeup folk village which is Important Folklore Material no.188, and studied them linguistically. Informants are fore people who were born and bred in Seongeup-ri and they are over 70. They have a lot of experiences building thatched-roof houses from a young age. There are 9 different categories - the kind of the house, partial names, exterior space, materials, tools, words about actions, doers, units, and folklore. Some new words related to Jeju traditional housing, which had not been in the list of Korean dictionary, could be introduced as a result of the study. For example, rice which are made when doing earth work is called Heukppap and adzes used to sharpen stones are called Dolchagui. The finding of These new words hopefully contribute to the promotion of Korean language as well as enrich vocabulary on housing. Furthermore, the collected vocabularies and oral materials could be used as important educational materials to comprehend Jeju traditional housing culture.

  • This research examines the characteristics of the "rammed earth form" based on the criteria for the selection of forms. For this purpose, the paper first reviews the characteristics and orientation of the earth-construction and looks into the outline, the prerequisite, the current status and the tendency of the rammed earth form system through previous studies. Consequently, we aims to contribute to the criteria for the selection of rammed earth forms in the future through a comparative analysis of the construction cost, quality, safety and easiness of works between the veneer board form and the euroform, which are most widely used at earth housing project in the domestic country. The results reveals that the euroform is better than the veneer board with 21% of total cost in the cost analysis. But this better than that in the side of easiness of construction. In both cases, the buckling of wall panel form and the labor-oriented characteristics of the methods are the future research issues in the rammed earth form system.

  • Atmospheric ammonia is a very important constituent of the environment because it is the dominant alkaline gaseous species present in the atmosphere. Ammonia is known to affect ecosystems at relatively low concentration. In this study flux profiles of ammonia emitted from the cattle housing were evaluated using a dynamic flux chamber (DFC). We have developed the emission factor of $NH_3$ from the cattle housing. Analysis of ammonia flux variation was made with respect to such variables as manure surface temperature, pH, and ammonium concentration. Ammonia flux has been measured up to summer in 2007 at calf and cattle housing. In the fall, average ammonia flux from calf and cattle housing was estimated as 1.406 (${\pm}0.947$) and 1.534 ((${\pm}0.956$) $mg\;m^2\;min^1$, respectively. In the winter, average ammonia flux was estimated 1.060 ((${\pm}0.569$) from the calf housing and 1.216 ((${\pm}0.655$) $mg\;m^2\;min^1$ from the cattle housing. The correlation coefficient (R=0.732) between ammonia flux and manure surface ammonium concentration exhibited stronger relationship than manure surface pH and temperature. In the fall, ammonia emission factor from calf and cattle housing was estimated as 3.94 ((${\pm}2.66$) and 11.41 ((${\pm}5.86$) kg-$NH_3$ animal$^1\;yr^1$, respectively. In the winter, ammonia average flux was estimated as 2.89 ((${\pm}1.59$) from the calf housing and 6.51 ((${\pm}3.67$) kg-$NH_3$ animal$^1\;yr^1$ from the cattle housing.

  • Ammonia ($NH_3$) is an important pollutant that plays a key role in several air pollution problems. It can create odors and have negative impacts on animal and human health. The largest source contributing to Ammonia emission is the agricultural production, in particular animal operation, in Korea. The present study evaluated flux profiles of Ammonia emitted from the cattle housing using a dynamic flux chamber. We have developed the emission factor of Ammonia from the cow housing. Analysis of Ammonia flux variation was made with respect to manure surface temperature, pH, and ammonium concentration. Ammonia has been measured from calf and cattle housing between October and December in 2007. In the fall, average Ammonia flux from calf and cattle housing was estimated 1.342(${\pm}0.728$) and 1.323(${\pm}0.655$)mg/$m^2$/min, respectively. In the winter, average Ammonia flux was estimated 0.889(${\pm}0.362$)mg/$m^2$/min from the calf housing and 0.925(${\pm}0.511$)mg/$m^2$/min from the cattle housing. The correlation coefficient between Ammonia flux and ammonium concentration showed stronger relationship than the relationship between manure pH and temperature. In the fall, Ammonia emission factor from calf and cattle housing was estimated 4.46(${\pm}2.39$) and 6.03(${\pm}3.27$)kg-$NH_3$/animal/yr, respectively. In the winter, average Ammonia flux was estimated 2.88(${\pm}1.53$) from the calf housing and 4.24({$\pm}1.63$)kg-$NH_3$/animal/yr from the cattle housing.

  • The ritual for community is a group ritual performed by the regional community of a village for the safety of the residents and abundant harvests. However, many ritual places have been destroyed by the anti-superstition movement, New Community Movement (Saemaul Movement), industrialization and urbanization since the 1960s. Under the circumstances, this study researched the status of use of the ritual place in Beommul-dong in Daegu where the ritual was revived in 2004 after having been suspended since the end of the 1980s due to urbanization. The revival of the ritual for community in Beommul-dong in Daegu, which had been maintained by the village people alone, is the prime example of the vitalization of local community as the recreation of local community, since the ritual has been transformed into a kind of festival involved with and financed by the local government. The study on analyzing the usage pattern of the ritual place may provide useful sources to come up with the modernized functions of the ritual place as a community place, where the heads of the ward office and cultural center, lawmakers and most of the residents perform the ritual, share foods and tread on the God of the Earth across the village at 11:30 in the morning on every January 16 of the lunar calendar.

  • An analysis of the current water leak status of understand structure (underground parking lots, staircases, plumbing systems, water reservoirs, etc.) of multi-family housing in South Korea shows that water leaks are found from cracks in all areas of the underground structure caused by the degradation environment (water pressure by underground water, humidity, temperature, earth pressure, soil behaviour and vibration, etc.), which result in various problems, including mold, malodour, debonding of finishing materials, exfoliation, breakout, water leaks in electrical boxes, efflorescence, sedimentation of calcium hydroxide, decoloration, rusting, damages and pollution among others. Therefore, this study aims to analyse the current status of water leaks in underground structure and use the results as the basic data for developing a standard guideline for water leaks and maintenance by parts of the underground structure of multi-family housing.
