  • This study is aimed to analyze temperature history at each section of mat foundation concrete applying double bubble sheets. The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, the results of measuring the temperature history indicate that the lowest external temperature has been recorded at -5.6℃ for the three-day measurement period. For the central section, the result indicates that the lower, center and upper part have all secured the concrete curing temperature of 18℃ or higher. This results are believed to have resulted from excellent heat insulation performance of double bubble sheets. For the edge section between the edge form and the concrete interface, the temperature has been measured, on average, approximately 12℃ lower than the central section. However, all measured sections have indicated the temperature of 5℃ or higher. Meanwhile, an analysis has been conducted through the estimation equation of compressive strength of maturity during the curing period in order to examine the possibility of early frost damage and the aspect of securing strength. It has been confirmed that the compressive strength is higher than 50°D·D, namely, 5MPa, on the 3rd day of the aging process, which allows early frost damage to be avoided.

  • In this research, it used cement power and reduction slag, which generates high hydration heat in hydration reation without heat cure below -5℃ degree. Purpose of final research is preventing freezing and thawing by making the compressive strength 5MPa in 3days below zero temperature due to own heat of concrete. and it is the result of physical characteristic and thermal property evaluation of reduction slag. Because reduction sag generates high hydration heat, compressive strength development is excellent. By generating highly Hydration heat by C12A7 and C3A in reduction slag, compressive strength is developed in low temperature. In case of displacing only reduction slag without SO3, it is indicated that quick-setting occurs by shortage of SO3. For preventing quick-setting, gypsum is used essentially. According to this research result, in case of using reduction slag and gypsum as a ternary system, Compressive strength developed 5MPa in 3days below zero temperature. It is identified to prevent early frost damage of concrete below zero temperature.

  • In this study, the results are compared with the case of the concrete with embedded heating wire to verify the performance of the IB made in order to improve the workability and affordability, and to determine the effectiveness of early frost damage prevention. The IB was made using the 5W heating wire and layed on the upper surface of the concrete. The temperature was reduced to below 0℃ approximately within 24 hours, then approached the external temperature thereafter. On the other hand, when the 20W heating wire was used to make the IB and applied the same way, the temperature remained around -2 to 3℃ on the average even through the temperature was reduced to below 0℃, due to the heating wire with relatively large heating capacity. It appeared to reach 85% of the direct heating by embedding the heating wire relatively deeper in the concrete. However, it was determined that using the IB made with the 20W heating wire will prevent the early frost damage to some degree in -10℃.

  • Recently, the structure is higher and larger, so that the application of high-strength concrete is increased, And as the development of construction skills, it is possible to place during the winter. Concrete work during winter is indispensible to shorten time of completion and cut costs. When concrete work during winter is placed, it has anxiety that concrete freeze at low temperature. As repetition of concrete's freezing cause reduction of durability, it is necessary for mixing to pay attention to air content and W/C ratios. Accordingly, in this study, we estimate the frost resistance by air content and W/C ratios, and development of strength after early-frost damage in the high-strength concrete during the cold weather. In this study, it could be confirmed that factors which were air content, W/C ratios and early curing period, affected on the frost resistance.

  • Recently, to consider financial and constructive aspect usage of Admixture such as Blast-Furnace Slag and Fly-Ash, are increased. Also the use of cold-weather-concrete is increased. Blast-Furnace Slag, a by-product of steel industry, have many advantage to reduce the heat of hydration, increase in ultimate strength and etc. But it also reduces early-age strength, so it is prevented from using of Blast-Furnace Slag at cold-weather-concrete. In this study, for the purpose of increasing usage of Blast-Furnace Slag at cold-weather-concrete, it is investigated the strength properties of concrete subjected to frost damage for the cause of early age curing. The factors of this experience to give early frost damaged were Freezing temperature(-1, -10, $-15^{\circ}C$), Early curing age(0, 12, 24, 48hour), Freezing times(0, 12, 24, 48hour). According to this study, if early curing is carried out before haying frost damage, the strength of concrete used admixture, subjected to frost damage, is recovered. And that properties are considered, the effect of using admixture like blast-furnace-slag, is very high

  • Concrete exposed to severely low temperature below $-20^{\circ}C$ should be provided with proper heat supplying curing to protect the concrete from early frost damage at the time of pouring.meanwhile, so far, effective heat curingmethods of the concrete under severely low temperature are not well established in Korea. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to provide effective heat curingmethod of concrete exposed to severely low temperature to protect early frost damage by varying the combination of heat curingmaterial combinations. Temperature history, maturity development and core strength results are investigated. Fourmock-up specimens simulating slab, wall and column were prepared and heat insulation, heat supplying and both were applied. Test results indicate that the combination of quadruple layer bubble sheet(4BS) and embedding of heating cable has desirable performance for a slab, and heat supplying curing inside heat enclosure and heat generationmat also shows desirable performance for a wall, and for a column, use of EPS heat insulation has proper performance against early frost damage, which reaches $45^{\circ}D{\cdot}D$ and helps the concretemaintain above $0^{\circ}C$ within 3 days. Themethodsmentioned above are believed to be optimum protection from early frost damage of the concrete under $-20^{\circ}C$.

  • When the construction in a low temperature, the concrete performance is deteriorated by frost damage at early age. In this study, the form utilizing heating sheet and insulation is measured the performance to prevent frost damage at 10 below zero. It produced five types of the form and to measure the temperature history and compressive strength. At first, form attached heating sheet showed the highest temperature. But the form attached vacuum insulation showed the highest temperature ever since 12hours. In the case of compressive strength, the form attached heating sheet + isopink(polystyrene foam board) showed the highest compressive strength. It was followed by vacuum insulation. As a result, the form utilizing insulation and heating sheet helped to prevent frost damage.

  • We have analyzed the effect of planting site (elevation) and direction of fruiting on the frost damage (tolerance to transparent skin and blemishes) of persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb) 'Fuyu' fruit subjected to the early fall frost (November 2, 2012) in environment-friendly orchards of Changnyeong and Changwon (Gyeongsangnam-do Korea). In Changnyeong, the direction of fruiting showed a significant effect on the fruit weight and the fruit width (p<0.01), and the fruit firmness (p<0.05) while the planting site (elevation) did a highly significant effect on the fruit width and the frost damage (p<0.01), and fruit length (p<0.05). In particular, severe frost damage of fruit (15.2%) and leaves (about 90%) was observed in the plants located in the low elevation area of orchard. The damaged fruit had an transparent skin color and/or blemishes. In Changwon, there was no effect of the planting site and the direction of fruiting on the frost damage, and the fruit characteristics except the fruit width having been related to the planting site (p<0.05). So, the main effects for the fruit frost damage was a terrain factor around the orchards.
