  • The transplanting period limit considering the rice yield in the Dague region, the inland plains of Gyeongsangbuk-do, was estimated to be July 15th for early and mid-maturing rice and July 5th for mid-late maturing rice. However, as the transplanting time was delayed, the characteristics of rice starch changed significantly. In the case of early and mid-maturing rice varieties, the starch granule size increased as the transplanting time was delayed; the opposite tendency was observed for mid-late maturing varieties. In all mature rice types, the late transplanting resulted in a longer pasting time and a higher pasting temperature. In addition, the peak viscosity, breakdown, and gelatinization temperature were significantly lowered, the relative crystallinity degree decreased, and the setback was significantly increased. In the case of Ilpum, a mid-late maturing rice variety, the distribution of amylopectin short chains tended to increase when rice was transplanted on June 30th.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a methodology to grasp the design method of industrial slacks pattern for women in their early twenties. The result of this study is as follows: 1. The result of the questionnaire showed that the design of rear center gradient was most important and the rear center gradient was designed by shifting waist line and hip line to a suitable degree.; below the waist by 4cm, the girth was measured and the ease of $0{\sim}1cm$ was applied to it, and the ease of hip girth was $3.2{\pm}1.2cm$, and rear center gradient was $2.2{\pm}1cm$, and front crotch extension was $2.8{\pm}0.5cm$, while rear crotch extension was $6.3{\pm}0.5cm$. 2. By comparing rear center gradient which was selected as an important design item with total crotch length and hip girth, I selected industrial pattern and educational pattern, and evaluated them on human bodies. In the result of ANOVA analysis, there were meaningful differences in 8 items: the ease of front waist girth, the ease of front abdomen, the ease of front hip girth, rumples in the side lines, the location of rear waist line, etc. 3. The design method of slacks pattern suitable for women in their early twenties was suggested as follows: the location of waist girth is below waist by $2.5{\sim}3cm$; the ease of waist girth is $0{\sim}1cm$; the ease of hip girth is $2{\sim}3cm$; total crotch length is body size - 5cm; rear center gradient is $2.5{\pm}0.5cm$; rear crotch extension is $7{\pm}0.5cm$; front crotch extension is 3cm.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of shoot twist on fruitfulness and fruit quality of 'Campbell Early' grapevine. Proper pruning and training are essential to produce a good yield of high-quality fruit and to maintain the balance between vegetative growth and fruiting. The most common problem in spur-pruned 'Campbell Early' cultivar is that vigorous buds has low fruitfulness and thereby the shoot become more vigorous the following spring because of lower crop load. Therefore, shoot twists in very vigorous 'Campbell Early' canes (above 10.0 mm) were performed on the third nodes and the $7^{th}$ nodes of each shoot at 7 days before bloom and full bloom, respectively. Sprouting date, blooming date were not significantly different among the treatments while, harvesting date was delayed approximately 3 days. However, number of berries per cluster, cluster weight and fruitfulness were significantly higher in the shoot twist treatment on the third nodes than the control that was topping alone. Combination treatments of shoot twist and topping had an additive effect on increasing cluster weight resulting in higher increase of yield by 12.1 ㎏ per vine. These results indicated that the shoot twist on very vigorous canes of 'Campbell Early' grapevine for well fruitfulness seemed to be very effective.

  • Recently proliferating heterogeneous multimedia service environments should be able to deal with many different transmission speeds, image sizes, or qualities of video. However, not many existing video compression standards satisfy those necessities. To satisfy the functional requirements, the standardization of the H.264/AVC Scalable Extension (SE) technique has been recently completed. It is an extension of the H.264/AVC which can encode several image sizes and qualities at the same time as a single bitstream. To perform optimum mode decision, motion estimation is performed for all MB modes, and the RD costs are compared to identify an MB mode with the smallest RD cost. This increases computational complexity of H.264/AVC SE encoding. In this paper, we propose an early skip mode detection scheme to reduce candidate modes and suggest an algorithm of fast mode decision utilizing reference modes according to the mode history.

  • Agricultural extension service in Ethiopia was started in early 1950s with mandate of transferring local research outputs and technologies to farmers, and importing technologies and improved practices from abroad. Extension service provided in this early time was limited to areas surrounding the experiment stations. Since then, Ethiopian Agricultural extension service has passed through at least five stages: the land grant extension system, the Comprehensive Package Programs, the Minimum Package Projects, the Peasant Agricultural Development Program, and the Participatory Demonstration and Training Extension System (PADETS). The comprehensive package extension program was initially implemented in selected pilot areas and eventually to be scaled up to cover about 90% of the farming community within 15-20 years time. The program used demonstration plots managed by development agents and used to train farmers organized through various field days. However, since all of these programs were operational in only small areas, the vast majority of the country was out of their reach. Through Participatory Demonstration and Training Extension System, the extension service in Ethiopia has come under the spotlight and government debates and external reviews are putting additional scrutiny on the system. Despite this long history, the system is still in its infancy in terms of coverage, communication and institutional pluralism. Currently in Ethiopia the Agricultural extension is provided primarily by the public sector, operating in a decentralized manner through which extension is implemented at the district level. Therefore, the main focus of this paper is to scrutinize the past, the present and the future Agricultural extension system in Ethiopia.

  • In this study, we collected 29 Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) genetic resources from 10 countries to confirm the possibility of the introduction into Korea. The Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) has the broad industrial use like feed and the 5 times more strong $CO_2$ absorption capacity compared to general plant. So recently it is considered as a good industrial source. We analyzed ecotype, growth and development, yield and feed value of collected resources. They were divided into 3 groups depending on flowering time, early maturing type blooming in early July, mid-late maturing type blooming from end of August to early September and late maturing type blooming in end of October. Early maturing type could get fruitful seed but dropped yield (average 7,895 kg/10a) and late maturing type could get high yield (average 12,572 kg/10a) but deletion. The other side mid-late maturing type could get yield over a certain level (average 11,207 kg/10a) and fruitful seed was ensured. The yields analyzed by resources indicated that K12 (Hongma 300) collected in China, K25 from India, K22 from Russia and K21 (Khonkaen 60) variety from China were more than 13,500 kg per 10a. Feed value of early maturing type had inclined to more better than other types, but like dry digestible matter (DDM) and dry matter intake (DMI) of some late maturing types like K12, K21, K22 which had a high yielding ability were more better than that of early maturing types'. So relative feed value (RFV) which considered comprehensive item for feed value were indicated K21 was 102.5, K12 was 116.2 and K22 was 120.2. 'Jangdae' the variety developed in Korea which could complement of other types' had a good quality for yield 10,975 kg/10a and 12.5% crude protein content and 101.9 of the relative feed value. So we need to be taken power to collection of mid-late maturing types resources.

  • Seasonal occurrence and tne effects of two organic farming materials on mulberry sucker, Anomoneura mori were investigated on mulberry grown for fruit production in Buan, Jeonbuk, South Korea.. Overwintered adults of A. mori occurred from late March to mid-May with a peak in mid-April. Overwintered females began to lay eggs on winter buds from mid-April. Emerged nymphs appeared from early May and peaked in mid-May. Newly eclosed adults, appearing from early June, soon scattered and were not found in the mulberry field after mid-June. Therefore, the optimal control period for A. mori was mid-April for adults and early May for nymphs. Sophora extract and derris extract were effective organic farming materials for controllingl the nymphs of A. mori. It was found that derris extract sprayed 2-3 times at 5-days intervals in early May effected good control against A. mori nymphs.

  • This study was performed to screen fallow crops during winter period for improvement of soil quality and utilizing as mulching material in watermelon cropping system during winter period. Five fallow crops, mainly, hairy vetch, barley, rye, oat and wheat, were sown in early November. They were mowed for covering the soil surface instead of polyethylene (PE) film before watermelon planting in early April the following year. The highest absorbed nutrients and dry matter yield were found in rye. Bulk density in plots with fallow crop was lower than control plot. There was observed no significant differences among the fallow crops. However, porosity was the lowest in control plot. Soil EC reduced to 12%, 13%, 14%, 16% and 22%, respectively, by cultivation of hairy vetch, oat, wheat, barley and rye. Microbial biomass carbon and dehydrogenase activities were higher in soil treated with gramineous crops, such as barley, rye and oat. The growth of watermelon was more affected by regeneration of fallow crop than the occurrence of weed, especially in plots treated with rye or oat. Also, the fruit damage by aphid was found severe in these treatment plots. The fruit yield in plots treated with hairy vetch and barley was increased 5.7% and 2.6%, respectively, compared to that of PE films. The present experiment findings implied that these fallow crops had significant beneficial effects on improvement of soil qualities and could be utilized for mulching materials in watermelon cropping system.
