Factors Affecting Job Satisfaction of Cybersecurity Workforce: Focused on the Recent College Graduates (정보보호인력의 직무만족에 관한 연구 : 대졸 초기경력자를 중심으로)

  • Many organizations try to hire and retain a well-trained workforce to get their security level of IT assets and networks. However, most academic studies have focused on only how many workforces are needed to keep the secure function. We have to transit to other aspects of cybersecurity HRM studies because well-training workforces are not the problem of numbers but the quality. This study proves how the person-job fit and the work values impact job satisfaction of the cybersecurity workforce in early careers who graduated school recently and have a high turnover intention. The results of this study provide a lot of practical implications regarding job satisfaction of the cybersecurity workforce in an early career as follows. First, the major-job fit of the cybersecurity workforce doesn't influence job satisfaction, unlike other studies. Second, what graduates learned in college is little helpful in hands-on work, so retraining the cybersecurity workforce in an early career is very important. Third, the cybersecurity HRM plans have to center on realizing the self-realization of workforces to improve job satisfaction.

An Analysis on the Educational Needs of College Faculty: A College Case (전문대학 교수의 교육요구도 분석: A대학 사례를 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to elicit the competencies of college faculties and their educational needs depending on the careers. 110 full-time professors from A college in Gyeonggi-do participated in this study from November 27 to December 7, 2018. The findings are that competencies of college faculties were found as 10 teaching competencies and 7 general competencies, and most of the competencies showed differences in importance and performance. In addition, according to the t-test and Borich needs analysis, there were differences in the educational needs of faculties depending on the three careers: a group with less than five years of experience, a group with six to ten years of experience, and a group with more than 11 years of experience. The results of this study suggest the systematic education and training program to improve the competencies of college faculties are necessary and show designing a concrete road map and training manual is needed.

A Study on Gendered Portrayals in Children's Informational Books with Scientific Content

  • This study analyzes gender bias in children's informational books about science and science careers to determine how these early resources are affecting the disparity between males and females in science and engineering fields. The study focused on the number of male and female scientists both in pictures and text, and how much space was devoted to discussion of scientists of each gender. Overall, the findings of the study show that only 18% of the pictured scientists were female as well as only 16% of the scientists discussed in the text. These numbers are below current industry data that puts the number of females working in science and engineering fields at 26%.

Does the nuclear engineering field perform worse in utilizing women? Evidence from South Korea

  • Despite its remarkable socioeconomic development, South Korea underperforms in terms of female labor force participation and women in leadership positions. As women appear to avoid nuclear engineering, we aim to evaluate its relative performance in attracting women to its labor force compared to other college majors. Using college-major level information from 2000, we test whether the female faculty share in nuclear engineering is lower than its counterparts. Although nuclear engineering has one of the lowest female faculty shares, its share exceeds that of agricultural science, business and economics, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, and industrial engineering once we properly control for gender composition among students and other compounding factors. In other words, once female students major in nuclear engineering, they are less likely to leave their fields compared to their counterparts in other disciplines. This result implies that if the nuclear engineering field aims to attract more women to its workforce, it is important to target them from the early stage of their careers.

Job Selection, Separation, and Wage Level of SME Workers: based on a Follow-up Survey on Recent College Graduates (중소기업 취업자의 직장선택과 이동 그리고 임금 수준 분석)

  • Recently SMEs(small and medium enterprises) in Korea have experienced severe labor shortages. In particular, college graduates avoiding SMEs are widely spotted. According to previous studies, the main causes of the evasion by college graduates are the inferior working environment and low wages. Some studies also state that SME workers experience discrimination. However, most studies have focused only on unemployment issues of the young graduates. In this research, the results of follow-up surveys on the employment status and job conditions of recent college graduates was linked as a panel data, and the performance of the graduates was analyzed. Based on the analysis, we found college graduates who are employed SMEs are likely to have their initial career fixed to the SMEs. Second, the job separation records of the young SME workers does not show positive labor market performances such as upward movements or wage increases, and the process itself turned out to be entailed frequent separation. Third, the inferior wage level at SMEs and the fact that this effect is cumulatively amplified has been a key factor for evading SMEs. Thus, it is difficult to say that the early-stage careers in SMEs are constructive in future career development. On the contrary, the early careers at SMEs result in lower labor market outcomes, and frequent job separation.

A Survey of Teachers' Recognition on Nutrition Knowledge and Nutrition Education at Day-care Centers (어린이집 교사들의 영양지식과 영양교육에 대한 인식 조사연구)

  • This study was aimed at knowing the recognition of teachers' nutrition knowledge and nutrition education at day-care centers in Seong-nam. Teachers were all female, most of whom were in the 20, and their careers were less than 3 years. And $76.2\%$ of the teachers graduated from high school and junior college. The score of the nutrition knowledge was average $14.3\pm2.2$ (out of 20). It shows that they are lack of general information of nutrition. As the teachers had higher education, they scored higher nutrition knowledge levels (p < 0.01). It also says that there was meaningful interrelationship between the nutrition knowledge and the number of children they had (p < 0.05). $93\%$ of the teachers said that nutrition education should be given when children are three years old, at least and most of the teachers thought that nutrition education is necessary and should be taught in a separate course. $50.4\%$ of the teachers thought that nutrition education for early childhood should be taught by a nutritionist, but $35.2\%$ of them thought that the teachers themselves should be in charge of it. About $60\%$ of the teachers thought that 'Cooking Activity for Early Childhood' course should be established and it is desirable that the nutrition education should be in the area of cooking activity for childhood at day-care centers. The teachers thought that dietary habit is the most important subject in nutrition education and they got more information from the internet rather than in the class related to nutrition. A study on aerological disorders and performance evaluation of Korean air force pilots (한국 공군 조종사의 직업성 질환 실태 및 임무 수행도에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of the present study were: (1) to investigate aeromedical dissorders prevalent among ROK air force pilots and (2) to evaluate their detrimental effects on flight performance. The study examined the eight flight-induced disorders primarily responsible for permanent grounding and flying restrictions. According to the survey of 600 randomly selected pilots, 80.2% of the respondents have experienced low back pain, which was 20% higher than the lifetime prevalence in Swedish male workers. Bradyacusia ranked second (56.0%) resulting from continuous exposure to high aircraft noise. The cardiovascular disorders, the most common cause for permanent grounding of Canadian forces pilots, were found in 16.0% of the Korean pilots. Due to the high prevalence of the disorders, in 1993 the Korean pilots received medical treatments 10 times as many as factory workdes. Compared to the flight performance of Israeli and British pilots in wars, the flight performance of the Korean pilots was found to be inferior. Such poor performance can be attributable to the high incidence rates of disorders. Statistical analyses revealed that the aeromedical disorders were related to personal variables such as age, flight career- related factors, and fatigue. Cigarette smoking and drinking habit contributed to worsening back pain, barotitis media, and pulmonary disorders. More comprehensive research was recommended to identify health hazards, combined with intervention to minimize disorders that could lead to early termination of flight careers or excessive loss of flight time. This study further suggests that aeromedical institutions in Korean air force should be fostered more professionally and financially.

A study on the Housing Life History of the Women in their 50's (50대 여성의 주거 생애사에 관한 질적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the understanding of housing experiences of the women in their 50's in Korean social-cultural context and to explore their housing trajectory. The grounded theory was adopted in this study to address the research questions. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with the seven women in their 50's. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, the their housing experiences of childhood is characterized by emotional and affective memory, whose sub-categories are nature and large family. Second, the respondents are categorized into two types according to their tenure of their first house after marriage. the respondents who started the housing careers with rental housing tend to move more frequently than the one who procured homeownership at the early stage of life course. Third, the respondents are satisfied with their present housing, consider it as their final housing but most of them are ready to sell their present house and move to smaller or cheaper house when their children need to money to buy the house for marriage.

Factors Influencing Nurses' Attitudes towards Nurse-led Defibrillation (간호사에 의한 제세동 시행에 대한 간호사 태도의 영향요인)

  • Purpose : This study examined factors influencing the attitudes towards nurse-led defibrillation in the emergency department (ED) and intensive care unit (ICU). Methods : This was a cross-sectional study. A total of 212 nurses in the ED and ICU from three general hospitals responded to the survey. Data were collected between September and October 2015 using structured questionnaires. Independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression were used to analyze factors affecting nurses' attitudes towards nurse-led defibrillation. Results : The mean score of nurses' attitudes towards nurse-led defibrillation was 61.37 of a possible 91. Hierarchical multiple regression showed that nurses' attitudes towards nurse-led defibrillation were significantly affected by their experiences regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (p=.003), knowledge regarding electrocardiogram interpretation and defibrillation (p=.007), and tenure in ED or ICU (p=.043). Conclusion : Results indicate that employers should set policies to support nurses in maintaining their careers in the ED or ICU and conduct systematic educational programs for them. This will increase nurses' confidence in performing defibrillation, which will lead to early defibrillation during in-hospital cardiac arrest. Consequently, it can be a strategy to increase the survival rate of cardiac arrest patients.

Analysis on the Middle School Teachers' Level of Interest of Achievement Standards-based Assessment (성취평가제에 대한 중학교 교사의 관심수준 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of interest in the achievement evaluation system, under the assumption that the teacher is an important element of curriculum. For this study, surveys targeting the 150 middle school teachers from 6 schools in Pusan was conducted. A questionnaire based CBAM model was used as research tools. For data analysis, mean of relative strength by teacher's level of interest was calculated. And MANOVA was used to investigate the difference among level of interest according to teachers' background such as sex, age, career, job position, and the grade they taught. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows. First, the middle school teachers' overall interest for achievement evaluation system is low. Teachers showed a typical pattern appeared in the early stages of change. They have little interest in the achievement evaluation system. And they should try to fix and change the achievement evaluation system rather than cooperate it. Second, as a result of this analysis of the difference according to teachers' background, no significant differences were found in most of the variables. Significant differences were found only in age, career, and job position from step 0. In running the post hoc, teachers who have less careers, lower positions, and younger ages had less interest in achievement evaluation system.
