  • In this paper, we propose a method of a sound synthesis of Korean plucked string instrument, gayageum, by physical modeling which use impulse responses of body and Anjok. Gayageum consists of three kinds of systems: string, body, and Anjok. These are a serial combination of linear time invariant systems. String can be modeled by digital delay line. Body and Anjok can be estimated by their impulse responses. We found three resonance frequencies in the body impulse response, and implemented resonator as body. Anjok was implemented as high pass filter in fundamental frequency band of gayageum. RMSEs of synthesized sounds are distributed from 0.01 to 0.03. It was difficult to distinguish the resulting synthesized sounds from the originals sound by ear.

  • This thesis deals a method to deliver more realistic sound by cancelling the cross-talk which is inherent to the 5.1 channel speaker system. The acoustical model for cross-talk cancellation is the free field model. This model minimizes distortion of sound. I used the bark scale sound quality compensation which based on psycho-acoustic. For the surround channels, band-limited sound quality compensation is performed in the frequency domain. I also performed the sound quality assessment test on the traditional 2 channel stereo and 5.1 channel system. This test is performed in the test chamber which satisfies the ITU-R specifications. I uses the IACC (Inter-Aural Cross-Correlation) to determine the preferences of the amateur and the golden ear experts to asses the trans-aural filter. According to the result from the proposed method, I got more the 38 dB separation rates with the Dolby standard speaker array. The results on the diffusion by the subjective test with the experts shows 0.4 point increased then before.

  • In this study, speech recognition for Korean digit is performed using filter bank which is programmed discrete HMM and DTW. Spectral analysis reveals speech signal features which are mainly due to the shape of the vocal tract. And spectral feature of speech are generally obtained as the exit of filter banks, which properly integrated a spectrum at defined frequency ranges. A set of 8 band pass filters is generally used since it simulates human ear processing. And defined frequency ranges are 320-330, 450-460, 640-650, 840-850, 900-1000, 1100-1200, 2000-2100, 3900-4000Hz and then sampled at 8kHz of sampling rate. Frame width is 20ms and period is 10ms. Accordingly, we found that the recognition rate of DTW is better than HMM for Korean digit speech in the experimental result. Recognition accuracy of Korean digit speech using filter bank is 93.3% for the 24th BPF, 89.1% for the 16th BPF and 88.9% for the 8th BPF of hardware realization of voice dialing system.

  • This paper describes a design of internal frequency modulation(FM) radio antenna fur mobile terminal. In order to control of impedance at an operating frequency of the designed antenna, the lumped constant elements of R and L chip components are used. Patch and stubs located at antenna backside are added to control an exact resonance frequency and miniaturization. A fabricated antenna sire, the measured return loss, impedance, bandwidth, and gain are $40{\times}70{\times}1$ mm, -23 dB at 99 MHz, $55-j7{\Omega}$, 22 MHz($88{\sim}110$ MHz) below -10 dB, and -15 dBi, respectively. These measured results show a good agreement with simulated results. Especially, the measured gain of fabricated antenna is similar with value of a conventional ear-phone antenna in the designed frequency band. The measured radiation pattern agrees well with the calculated omni-directional pattern.

  • The Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) means a process related to acoustic transmission from 3d space to the listener's ear. In other words, it contains the information that human can perceive locations of sound sources. So, we make virtual 3d sound using HRTF, despite it doesn't actually exist. But, it can deteriorate some three-dimensional effect by the confusion between front and back directions due to the non-individual HRTF depending on each listener. In this paper, we proposed the new algorithm to reduce the confusion of sound image localization using human's acoustic characteristics. The frequency spectrum and global masking threshold of 3d sounds using HRTF are used to calculate the psychoacoustical differences among each directions. And perceptible cues in each critical band are boosted to create effective 3d sound. As a result, we can make the improved 3d sound, and the performances are much better than conventional methods.

  • The analysis of membrane receptors for hormones and neurotransmitters has progressed considerably by pharmacological and biochemical means and more recently by the use of specific anti-receptor antibodies. A 14-mer peptide (from Phe102 to Leu115 of ${\beta}$2-adrenergic receptor) was synthesized and this peptide was coupled to carrier protein Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin(KLH) by glutaraldehyde method. A 0.5mg of KLH-coupled peptide was emulsified with equal volume of complete Freund's adjuvant and injected via popliteal lymph node to each of the three Newzealnd White rabbits. Booster injections were repeated at 4 weeks interval for three times with incomplete Freund's adjuvants. One week after the final injection, serum was prepared from ear artery. Nonspecific immunoglobulins were removed by passing the serum through KLH-Sepharose 6B affinity matrix and further by incubation with bovine lung aceton powder. The titer of the antibody for synthetic peptide which was determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was about l/l,000. The antibody produced in this study revealed 67kDa protein band in the western blot of partially purified guinea pig lung ${\beta}$-adrenergic receptor preparation. The antibody inhibited ${\beta}$-adrenergic antaginist [3H] Dihydroalprenolol binding to soluble ${\beta}$-adrenergic receptor by 25% while control sera did not show any inhibitory effects, The result of this study suggests that the peptide sequence selected in this study may play some important roles in adrenergic receptor-ligand interaction.

  • Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy was used to investigate the effect of irradiation dose on the ESR signal intensity of irradiated crabs and the stability of these radicals under 9 weeks of storage. Swimming and small crabs were irradiated with doses of 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7 kGy using a Co-60 irradiator at ambient temperature. A claw, a walking leg and a cars- pace of the crab pieced and dried were placed in a resonant quart tube within an EPR X-band spectrometer. The irradiated crabs presented an asymmetric absorption in shape at g$_1$=2.002 $\pm$ 0.003 and g$_2$=1.998$\pm$0.005, and were different from the non-irradiated ones. The intensity of the ESR signals was greatest in the claw, intermediate in the carapace and lowest in the walking leg. Samples given low and high doses of irradiation could also be distinguished. The ESR signal after irradiation was stable, even after a 9-week storage.

  • The critical bandwidth represents response interactions with respect to a signal tone and their neighboring bands. This study was to analyze the critical bandwidths of a clinically important 500 Hz tone in Korean young male and female subjects (male = 10, female = 10) at a conversational level (60 dB HL). Data were measured with notched band noise and two alternative forced choice methods. Results showed that the critical bandwidth was slightly greater (95 Hz) than the previous Western measures. There were no statistically significant differences in gender, nor were there any significant differences in lateralization of the ear (p > 0.05). These results may have implications in optimizing effective tinnitus masking or the related clinical applications.
