  • With Expo 2012 Yeosu to be held in 2012, this study intends to propose designs for fashion cultural products into which the characteristics of local cultures of Yeosu are fused. Using symbols of Expo 2012 Yeosu and cultural symbols of Yeosu City as motifs, this study will develop patterns and then, apply them to neckties, handkerchiefs, and T-shirts. Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Adobe Photoshop CS2 will be used. This study developed basic motifs so that cultural resources using camellia, Odong Island, and the Turtle Ship, which represent Yeosu City, could be well harmonized with the topic of Expo 2012 Yeosu. This paper set three basic motifs of new formative images, using graphic images that were made by omission of forms, simplification, overlap, repetition, and calligraphy of the name of Yeosu holding the event. Each set motif was expanded to three motifs again through change, conversion, and mixture of colors, and three types of repetitive applied patterns were developed through revolution, symmetry, repetition, and reversal of each motif. The modern and refined image for neckties, to which the developed motif was applied, was made by directly applying the repetitive pattern of each motif or by making $45^{\circ}$ revolution. For handkerchiefs, revolution, enlargement, reduction, and gradation were applied to the motif so the pattern could be highlighted to the maximum and finally, a colorful image was developed. For T-shirts, three designs-a half-sleeved box type, a sleeveless round neckline type, and a sleeveless V-neckline tight type-were developed, through which availability of the design was increased. Through enlargement, reduction, revolution, and repetition of each motif, this paper layout the pattern on the whole part of a T-shirt, pursuing a decorative and casual image.

  • To examine the causal association between story usage and the ability of comprehending social relations, this study analyzed whether the short-term use of story heightened the degree of other-focused attention. To this end, this study randomly assigned 74 participants into three groups(novel, film, and exposition conditions), and participants were exposed to the stimuli for about 30 minutes, and then this study compared the degree of other-focused attention of the three groups. The results suggested that the degree of other-focused attention in the story groups (novel and film) were significantly higher than those in the exposition group. Though causal association between story usage and the ability of comprehending social relations were not clear, via demonstrating the formation of other-focused attention due to short-term use of story, this study provided empirical evidence for the simulation account of story.

  • The attack of environmental aggressive agents progressively reduces the structural reliability of buildings and infrastructures and, in the worst exposition conditions, may even lead to their collapse in the long period. A change in the material and sectional characteristics of a structural element, due to the environmental damaging effects, changes its mechanical behaviour and varies both the internal stress redistribution and the kinematics through which it reaches its ultimate state. To identify such a behaviour, the evolution of both the damaging process and its mechanical consequences have to be taken into account. This paper presents a computational approach for the analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete elements under sustained loading conditions and subjected to given damaging scenarios. The effects of the diffusion of aggressive agents, of the onset and development of the corrosion state in the reinforcement and the corresponding mechanical response are studied. As known, the corrosion on the reinforcing bars influences the damaging rate in the cracking pattern evolution; hence, the damage development and the mechanical behaviours are considered as coupled phenomena. The reliability of such an approach is validated in modelling the diffusion of the aggressive agents and the changes in the mechanical response of simple structural elements whose experimental behaviour is reported in Literature. A second set of analyses studies the effects of the corrosion of the tendons of a P.C. beam and explores potentially unexpected structural responses caused by corrosion under different aggressive exposition. The role of the different types and of the different positions of the damaging agents is discussed. In particular, it is shown how the collapse mode of the beam may switch from flexural to shear type, in case corrosion is caused by a localized chloride attack in the shear span.

  • Objective : Despite the chronic nature and high social costs, individuals with anxiety disorders seldom seek treatment. Thus, education for public awareness and screening for the illness is tremendously important for mental health professionals. This study summaries and presents the results from Anxiety Disorder Screening Program during the Mental Health Exposition held in Seoul in April, 2013. Methods : We analyzed the data from 116 participants who agreed and completed the screening questionnaires during their visits to two-day Anxiety Disorder Screening Program prepared by the Korean Academy of Anxiety Disorder. The questionnaire comprised of modified Mobility inventory for agoraphobia, Contents of worries, Penn State Worry Questionnaire, Life Events Checklist, and Abbreviated Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist. Results : Participants demonstrated high rates of anxiety symptoms and possible anxiety disorders. Experience of panic attack was reported by 45%, lifetime and 16% in the past month by respondents. Phobia was reported by 46%. Participants had an average of 3.3 pathological worries and among those, social or interpersonal content was most common (46%). At least one lifetime traumatic event was reported by 64%. By the cut-off scores in the literature, 46% had possible generalized anxiety disorder and 58% possible posttraumatic stress disorder. Conclusion : Our results suggested that many visitors to Anxiety Disorder Screening Program were in fact treatment seeking after experiencing some forms of anxiety symptoms. Further efforts for delivery of medical information and increasing public awareness for anxiety disorders are needed.

  • In this work, the adsorptive and desorptive behavior of reduced sulfur compounds (RSC) was investigated using the combination of the Peltier cooling (PC)/thermal desorption (TD) unit with the gas chromatographic (GC) detection technique. To examine the adsorptive characteristics of RSC on clothing materials, a total of nine experiments were conducted in a stepwise manner. Once small towel pieces are exposed to significant quantities of RSC standards with high concentrations (10 ppm), the desoprtion stage was then induced by deloading RSC with ultrapure $N_2$ at three different flow rates (FR) of 20, 40, and 60 mL/min. At each FR, the total deloading volume of 400, 800, and 1,600 mL were maintained. These results were then compared in terms of odoring efficiency by dividing the total amount of desorption with the total amount used for exposition or RSC loading. The results indicated that desorption reaction of certain compounds ($CH_3SH$ and DMS) can be influenced significantly with the reducing FR, while they are not affected directly by the total deloading volume. In addition, when the extent of adsorption was compared for most S compounds by the odoring efficiency term, the extent of absorption generally occurred at approximately 1/1000 level of original exposition.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning of ramp of Le Corbusier's Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts focused on experience of architectural promenade. The Carpenter Center was completed in 1964, only a year earlier than the death of Le Corbusier and also, this building is the only building actually constructed in North America. Despite these important facts, the meanings of the ideas of this building have not been paid attention as much as other buildings constructed at the same period, such as, Venice Hospital and Un Pavillion D'exposition in Zurich. In his book, 'Oeuvre Complete 1957-1965', Le Corbusier mentioned Carpenter Center as an architectural experiments of his ideas. The study of carpenter center will be an important architectural subject to clarify the meaning of his later works and ideas.

  • This study investigates the course of transformation of the capital city of the Korean Empire into a colonial city during the Japanese rule by focusing on state-owned lands at and near #193, 2nd jeongmok(丁目), Hwanggeum-jeong(黃金町) in Keijo(京城). The study reveals that although the colonial rulers had made it apparent that they acted in the benefit of the Korean Empire, in reality, they had taken dexterous and gradual steps to change the purpose of the lands in order to utilize them as desired. Briefly, the usage of the lands was changed several times from Daedong-gurakbu(大同俱樂部) to Gyeongseong Exposition(京城博覽會) and to Nongsanggongbu Office(農 商工部) up until the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty. Following this, the lands were bestowed upon the pro-Japanese, including Guijokhoigwan(貴族會館), as a means of Japan's assimilation policy. The changes in the usage of the buildings on the lands and the land use show how the rulers' intentions were reflected in the space of the ruled.

  • Risk analysis is a systematic study of uncertainties and risks we encounter in business, engineering, public policy, and many other areas. Value at Risk (VaR) is one of the most widely used risk measurements in risk management. In this paper, the Korean Composite Stock Price Index data has been utilized to model the VaR employing the classical ARMA (1,1)-GARCH (1,1) models with normal, t, generalized hyperbolic, and generalized pareto distributed errors. The aim of this paper is to compare the performance of each model in estimating the VaR. The performance of models were compared in terms of the number of VaR violations and Kupiec exceedance test. The GARCH-GPD likelihood ratio unconditional test statistic has been found to have the smallest value among the models.

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide a careful and accessible exposition of diffusive logistic equations with indefinite weights which model population dynamics in environments with strong spatial heterogeneity. We prove that the most favorable situations will occur if there is a relatively large favorable region (with good resources and without crowding effects) located some distance away from the boundary of the environment. Moreover we prove that a population will grow exponentially until limited by lack of available resources if the diffusion rate is below some critical value; this idea is generally credited to Thomas Malthus. On the other hand, if the diffusion rate is above this critical value, then the model obeys the logistic equation introduced by P. F. Verhulst .
