Contingent valuation method (CVM) is a main evaluation method of nonmarket goods for which markets either do not exist at all or do exist only incompletely; an example is environmental good. A dichotomous choice approach, the most popular type of CVM in environmental economics, employs binary discrete choice models as statistical estimation models. In this paper, we propose a semiparametric dichotomous choice CVM method using local linear model of Fan and Gijbels (1996) in which probability distribution of error term is specified parametrically but latent structural function is specified nonparametrically. The computation procedures of the proposed method are illustrated with a simple design of simulations.

In Korea, a proton linear accelerator complex is being built as a part of the 21st Century Frontier Projects. Contingent valuation method (CVM) is a main evaluation method of nonmarket goods for which markets either do not exist at all or do exist only incompletely. This study shows the method can be applied to the benefit assessment of the proton accelerator complex. Using the discrete choice CVM method, this study estimates the willingness-to-pay (WTP) of a would-be user for the proton accelerator complex as 20,133 won per month.

Biplot is a graphical display of the rows and columns of an n${\times}$p data matrix. In particular, Gabriel (1995) suggested the MANOVA biplot using singular value decomposition (SVD) with the averages of response variables according to treatment groups. But his biplot may cause wrong results by disregarding them when there exist covariate effects. In this paper, we will provide the MANCOA biplot based on the SVD with the parameter estimates for MANCOVA model when there exist covariate effects.

We study the surface waves of an incompressible fluid passing over a small bump. A forced KdV equation for surface wave is derived without assuming that flow is uniform at far upstream. New types of steady solutions are discovered numerically. Two new cut off values of Froude number are found, above the larger of which two symmetric solutions exist and under the smaller of which two different symmetric solutions exist.

The Korean diphthong /je/ is realized monophthong /e/ or neutralized /E/ in real speech generally. And diphthong /je/ was changed by preceeding consonants and place of syllable. In case that preceeding consonants exist, /je/ is realized as it is /je/, but in case that preceeding consonants don't exist, /je/ is changed variously. In case that /je/ is in second syllable place, /je/ is realized monophthong /e/ and in case that /je/ is in fist syllable place, /je/ is realized diphthong /je/.

In this paper, we prove that for all odd prime powers $q$ there exist MDS(maximum distance separable) self-dual codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ for all even lengths up to $q+1$. Additionally, we prove that there exist MDS self-dual codes of length four over $\mathbb{F}_q$ for all $q$ > 2, $q{\neq}5$.

We show that the conharmonical1y flat K-contact find cosymplectic manifolds are local1y Euclidean. Evidently non locally Euclidean conharmonically flat Sasakian manifold does not exist. Moreover we see that conharmonically flat Kenmotsu manifold does not exist and conharmonically flat fibred quasi quasi Sasakian space is locally Euclidean if and only if the scalar curvature of each fibre vanishes identically.

In this paper, we study totally umbilical slant lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Kaehler manifolds. We prove that there do not exist totally umbilical proper slant lightlike submanifolds in indefinite Kaehler manifolds other than totally geodesic proper slant lightlike submanifolds. We also prove that there do not exist totally umbilical proper slant lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Kaehler space forms. Finally, we give a characterization theorem on minimal slant lightlike submanifolds.

We investigate Frohlich-like electron--optical-phonon interactionsin uniaxial crytals based on the macroscopic dielectric continuum model. In general, the optical-phonon branches support mixed longitudinal and transverse modes due to the anisotropy. For heterostructures with double interfaces and superlattices, it is known that confined, interface, and half-space optical phonon modes exist in zincblende cystals. In uniaxial structures, additional propagating modes may exist in wurtzite heterosystems due to anisotropic phonon dispersion. This is especially the case when the dielectric properties of the adjacent heterostructure materials do not differ substantially. The dispersion relations and the interaction Hamiltonians for each of these modes are derived.
