As the launches of a series of remote sensing satellites, there are various multiresolution and multi-spectral images available nowadays. This diversity in remotely sensed image data has created a need to be able to integrate data from different sources. The C-band imaging radar of ERS-2 due to its high sensitivity to coastal wetlands holds tremendous potential in mapping and monitoring coastal wetland features. This paper investigates the advantages of using ERS-2 SAR data combined with IRS-ID LISS-3 data for mapping complex coastal wetland features of Tamil Nadu, southern India. We present a methodology in this paper that highlights the mapping potential of different combinations of filtering and integration techniques. The methodology adopted here consists of three major steps as following: (i) speckle noise reduction by comparative performance of different filtering algorithms, (ii) geometric rectification and coregistration, and (iii) application of different integration techniques. The results obtained from the analysis of optical and microwave image data have proved their potential use in improving interpretability of different coastal wetland features of southern India. Based visual and statistical analyzes, this study suggests that brovey transform will perform well in terms of preserving spatial and spectral content of the original image data. It was also realized that speckle filtering is very important before fusing optical and microwave data for mapping coastal mangrove wetland ecosystem.

As a part of efforts to establish the positive list system (PLS) in South Korea, a method to determine residual emamectin benzoate (EB) in various aquatic products using QuEChERS-EDTA and LC-MRM was developed. The developed method was validated in the aspects of specificity, linearity (correlation coefficient of at least 0.996), sensitivity (the limit of detection and the lower limit of quantitation ${\leq}5ng/g$), recovery (the recovery range of 87.4 and 96.2), and precision (the relative standard deviation of recovery between 0.9 and 13.5). Additionally, the validated method was successfully applied for monitoring EB contamination in eel, halibut, and shrimp collected from local food markets. To our knowledge, the present method is the first one to determine residual EB in various aquatic products at the level satisfying the PLS and could contribute to the establishment of the PLS in South Korea.

Nitarsone is an organoarsenic antiprotozoal drug widely used to treat blackhead disease in turkeys and chickens. However, since its biological conversion into inorganic arsenic, a carcinogen was known, its residue in foods should be regulated. Thus, here, a novel method to determine residual nitarsone in various food commodities (pork, milk, egg, halibut, eel, and shrimp) using QuEChERS and LC-MRM was developed. The developed method was successfully validated through specificity, linearity (coefficient of determination, at least 0.991), recovery (R, 63.6 - 85.6%), precision (the relative standard deviation of R, 0.5 - 10.6%), and sensitivity (the lower limit of quantitation, 5 ppb) by following the Ministry of food and drug safety (MFDS) guidelines. The present method is the first mean to quantitate nitarsone using LC-MRM, and it was designed to be conveniently merged into a new method to quantitate multiple veterinary drugs for the positive list system (PLS). Therefore, the present method could contribute to fortify the food safety system in South Korea.

This study provides results from the experiment on the rainfall distribution using a large Experimental rainfall simulator with fixed nozzle arrangement. Results from the experiment on the nozzles which are crucial for rainfall simulation show standard errors expressed as percentage are 0.15~0.38% at the indoor flow testing apparatus and 0.37~0.59% at the KICT-ERS. To examine spraying range of the nozzles, radial and triangular rainfall measurement test are done. In the radial test, coefficient of uniformity (CU) lies in 0.348~0.657 in the single nozzle spraying case, while it increases up to 0.854~0.895 in the seven nozzle spraying case. This means increase of both rain rate and uniformity by means of superimposition of spraying. The CU of the triangular test falls to 0.845~0.896. The results from the experiment on the whole-scale of the KICT-ERS show that CU exceeds 0.7 for every case except the one experimental condition where a $1.5{\phi}$ nozzle is used. The CU tends to increase with increasing rainfall intensity. Comparison with the previous studies shows that KICT-ERS provides rainfall distribution above average CU.

A new analytical method has been developed to determine 320 pesticides in apple and rice. The extraction of pesticides was carried out based on QuEChERS sample extraction, and determination was performed using LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS. 320 pesticides were selected for experiments. 251 and 110 pesticides among them were analysed by LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS, respectively. 41 pesticides of them were analyzed by both GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS. Among pesticides analysed by LC, 242 pesticides (96% of total number) in apple and 237 pesticides (94% of total number) in rice showed recoveries in the range of 70~120% with RSD ${\leq}20%$. In case of pesticides analyzed by GC-MS/MS, 103 pesticides (94% of total number) in apple and 83 pesticides (76% of total number) in rice were successfully validated. These results indicated that LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS analysis with the QuEChERS sample preparation can be partly applied to multi-residue pesticides in agricultural products.
Small baseline subset (SBAS) algorithm has been recently developed using an appropriate combination of differential interferograms, which are characterized by a small baseline in order to minimize the spatial decorrelation. This algorithm uses the singular value decomposition (SVD) to measure the time-series surface deformation from the differential interferograms which are not temporally connected. And it mitigates the atmospheric effect in the time-series surface deformation by using spatially low-pass and temporally high-pass filter. Nevertheless, it is not easy to correct the phase unwrapping error of each interferogram and to mitigate the time-varying noise component of the surface deformation from this algorithm due to the assumption of the linear surface deformation in the beginning of the observation. In this paper, we present an improved SBAS technique to complement these problems. Our improved SBAS algorithm uses an iterative approach to minimize the phase unwrapping error of each differential interferogram. This algorithm also uses finite difference method to suppress the time-varying noise component of the surface deformation. We tested our improved SBAS algorithm and evaluated its performance using 26 images of ERS-1/2 data and 21 images of RADARSAT-1 fine beam (F5) data at each different locations. Maximum deformation amount of 40cm in the radar line of sight (LOS) was estimated from ERS-l/2 datasets during about 13 years, whereas 3 cm deformation was estimated from RADARSAT-1 ones during about two years.
Objective: To investigate the relationship between 18F-FDG PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (IASLC/ATS/ERS) histopathologic classification, including histological subtypes, proliferation activity, and somatic mutations. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 419 patients (150 males, 269 females; median age, 59.0 years; age range, 23.0-84.0 years) who had undergone surgical removal of stage IA-IIIA lung adenocarcinoma and had preoperative PET/CT data of lung tumors. The maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax), background-subtracted volume (BSV), and background-subtracted lesion activity (BSL) derived from PET/CT were measured. The IASLC/ATS/ERS subtypes, Ki67 score, and epidermal growth factor/anaplastic lymphoma kinase (EGFR/ALK) mutation status were evaluated. The PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters were compared between the tumor subtypes using the Mann-Whitney U test or the Kruskal-Wallis test. The optimum cutoff values of the PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters for distinguishing the IASLC/ATS/ERS subtypes were calculated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. The correlation between the PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters and pathological parameters was analyzed using Spearman's correlation. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: SUVmax, BSV, and BSL values were significantly higher in invasive adenocarcinoma (IA) than in minimally IA (MIA), and the values were higher in MIA than in adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) (all p < 0.05). Remarkably, an SUVmax of 0.90 and a BSL of 3.62 were shown to be the optimal cutoff values for differentiating MIA from AIS, manifesting as pure ground-glass nodules with 100% sensitivity and specificity. Metabolic-volumetric parameters (BSV and BSL) were better potential independent factors than metabolic parameters (SUVmax) in differentiating growth patterns. SUVmax and BSL, rather than BSV, were strongly or moderately correlated with Ki67 in most subtypes, except for the micropapillary and solid predominant groups. PET/CT parameters were not correlated with EGFR/ALK mutation status. Conclusion: As noninvasive surrogates, preoperative PET/CT semi-quantitative parameters could imply IASLC/ATS/ERS subtypes and Ki67 index and thus may contribute to improved management of precise surgery and postoperative adjuvant therapy.
The conventional high frequency phase-shifted full bridge dc/dc converter has a disadvantage that a circulating current flows through transformer and switching devices during the freewheeling interval. Due to this circulating current, RMS current stress, conduction losses of transformer and switching devices are increased. To alleviate this problem, this paper provides a circulating current free type high frequency soft switching phase-shifted full bridge (FB) dc/dc converter with energy recovery snubber (ERS) attached at the secondary side of transformer. The energy recovery snubber (ERS) adopted in this study is consisted of three fast recovery diode(Ds1, DS2, Ds3), two resonant capacitor (Cs1, Cs2)
Phytoestrogens display estrogen-like activity because of their structural similarity to human estrogens and exhibit high affinity binding for the estrogen receptors (ERs). The prevalence of phytoestrogens in our diets and the biological effects that they may cause need to be fully examined. ER is the ancestral receptor from which all other steroid receptors have evolved. Although phytoestrogens serve specific signaling functions between the plants and insects, fungi, and bacteria, many chemical signals are often misinterpreted as estrogenic signals in non-target organisms such as vertebrates. There are no ERs in plants or in their most common partners, insects. However, Rhizobium soil bacteria have NodD proteins which is an intended target of phytoestrogen signaling and share genetic homology with the ER. These two evolutionarily distant receptors both recognize and respond to a shared group of chemical signals and ligands, including both agonists and antagonists. This review briefly summarizes estrogen and estrogen receptors, kinds of important phytoestrogens, their health effects as well as some of the evolutionary aspects of mechanism by which phytoestrogen mimics the endogenous ER signaling in our body.
Hydrographic data obtained from several ship experiments have shown that internal waves are frequently observed in the East (Japan) Sea, mostly in the continental slopes located along the western side of the East Sea. It is well known that oceanic internal waves can be detected well in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Interactions between surface capillary-gravity waves and horizontally varying surface currents induced by internal waves produce variations in sea surface roughness which can be detected by SAR. C-band SAR images from ERS, ENVISAT ASAR and RADARSAT have been used to study the characteristics of internal waves in the East Sea. The observed properties of internal waves from many SAR images were compared and verified from in-situ measurements and theories.
