  • For the successful implementation of ERP systems, it is very important to solve the issue of "misfits", that is, the gaps between the functionality offered by the ERP package and the required by the adopting organization. To solve the "misfit" issue, adapting to the new functionality has been recommended instead of customizing the ERP package. However, these claims are mostly based on case studies and anecdotal evidence with limited empirical justification. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to study the effect of ERP customizing on user satisfaction and firm performance. In this study, we also examine the differences in the effects of ERP customizing among three customizing types: modification, add-on development (to use 'user exit'), and add-on development (not to use 'user exit'). According to the empirical field study, we find no significant differences in user satisfaction and firm performance by overall customizing (total of three customizing types) level. However, we find significant differences in user satisfaction and firm performance by add-on development level. And the influences of customizing types on user satisfaction and firm performance are significantly affected by the functionality level offered by the ERP system and BPR level. These results indicate that ERP customizing may not always be the incorrect choice for solving the "misfit" issue.

  • This paper mainly focuses on an empirical study for performance analysis which is caused by customizing of ERP systems. To conduct this study, four companies are selected in Korea and China, two companies for each country. This paper actually considers four factors for performance analysis of ERP adoption such as financial performance, user satisfaction, competitiveness, and ERP systems adoption, and the analysis of utilization performance is based on nine factors in terms of customizing of ERP systems. As a result of the analyzed results, we conduct comparison analysis about ERP systems customizing of the companies in Korea and China and suggest how to optimally customize for successful ERP systems adoption and application.

  • ERP is a topic of currency in MIS circle. Numerous organization have developed their information systems using many kinds of ERP packages such as Oracle, SAP R/3, uniERP, etc. However, the pricing methodology of ERP systems is not yet established in a proper way. This paper attempts to investigate factors influencing the price of ERP system. Thirty eight ERP consulting firms participated in this research project. Based on the data from ERP consulting firms, price of ERP systems basically consist of package cost, consulting fee, and customizing expense. The results of this research project are finding factors affecting above three parts that consist price of ERP system. This paper found that factors influencing package price are number of modules, number of users, the degree of package reliability. The factors affecting consulting fee are the degree of project specialty, level of consultants. Finally the factors influencing customizing cost are the degree of project difficulty, project time.

  • To succeed in ERP construction, the purpose of ERP setup must be completed. To accomplish this end, it is required to analysis business process completely and make a plan in detail. For ERP providers', they must support a characterized ERP construction methodology and lower the construction cost by improving an ERP package by making it easy to customize. But, because imported EHP products that are supplied currently are designed for the standard and the rationality, they have a limit to support custom processes of domestic companies. On the contrary, ERP products by domestic companies are unable to support a consistent methodology of constructing ERP system. This is a main reason why much time and costs are consumed than that of an original plan. For solving the problems, ERP packages should provide a consistent process modeling methodology and a modeling tool which can support this methodology. Furthermore, customizing cost must be lowered by implementing reusable components from the process models. This Paper describes a component-based ERP Package system which has peculiar modeling tools and development tools. We describe the modeling methodology and the business component definition of the ERP system. Finally, we describe its customizing process based on these process designs and business components.

  • Our study focuses on empirical findings of the critical factors which influence the performance of ERP system in business. The study is mainly interested in examining the influence of the characteristics of late process of adopting ERP called "Go-Live" phase with the critical issues like customizing, transformational process of standardization, phased implementation, concurrent operation and use with the current systems on users' ERP satisfaction. The analyses of the data conducted thru moderated regression analysis and subgroup analysis. Using moderated regression analysis, we first examined the effect of moderator variables like customizing, process standardization, sequential use, concurrent use with the current systems. And then, using subgroup analysis is to verify directions of the moderator effects. Having knowledge on the characteristics of ERP Go-Live process can lead to success of ERP system in business. Our results can be beneficial to those organizations who want to adopt and maintain ERP system effectively.

We have analyzed the company's background and found some conflicts and problems caused by the stockholders while implementing ERP systems. This case study has noted well how an agricultural company including between a provider and a stakeholder could be able to settle the ERP system with an necessary customizing work into the organization. Finally, ROSEPIA's implemented ERP systems have increased not only productivity but also archived the factuality and data reliability. This study give us an implication of how an export oriented and agricultural company, ROSEPIA made its company innovated and run its organizations through knowledge management using its ERP.

  • Recently, ERP system is used as a important tool of management innovation for enterprise's survival and development. It is very important to recognize how much influence to organizational performance through ERP system implementation. The purpose of this study is to find out the impact of environmental, organizational, information systems characteristics on successful implementation of ERP systems in Korean SMEs(Small and Medium Enterprises). From previous researches on ERP adoption and implementation, 7 independent variables (competitiveness, government support, top management support, process innovation, project management, IS maturity, and ERP customizing), and 1 dependent variables (successful implementation of ERP systems) are identified. 3 questionnaires were removed from the study because of missing or inappropriate responses, and final samples are 91 SMEs. The results of hypothesis testing show that determinants of successful implementation of ERP systems are top management support and IS maturity. Five variables such as competitiveness, government support, process innovation, project management, and ERP customizing do not significantly influence to successful implementation of ERP systems. The contribution of this study is that it provides an empirical evidence of the causal relationship between ERP adoption factor and ERP success. This study showed that top management support and IS maturity are essential to accomplish successful ERP implementation for SMEs.

  • As a result of the policy for enforcing the information technology led by government and the effort of companies to get over economic crisis through the reformation of business process, the ERP market is being active. However, because imported ERP products that are supplied currently are designed for standard and rationality, they have a limit to support custom processes of domestic companies in South Korea. On the contrary, ERP products by domestic companies in South Korea are unable to support a consistent methodology of constructing ERP system. • Based on investigating and analyzing the cases of advanced foreign universities that have already included ERP courses in their education systems, this study proposed the ways of incorporating ERP courses into Korean universities' curriculums in terms of the following three areas: 1) development of ERP courses, 2) establishment and maintenance of ERP education environment, 3) continuous evaluation and improvement of ERP education implementation. As reasonable ERP courses, "Introduction to ERP" targeted to educating overall basic concepts in ERP system and business administration, "ERP System Implementation" for fostering business process design and system implementation skills, "ERP Programming" such as ABAP for the purpose of customizing ERP system, and "Strategic Use of ERP" dealing with ERP package selection and implementation methodologies of effective utilization of ERP systems were suggested. Regarding the establishment and maintenance of ERP education environment, single server architecture model that contained both database and application was proposed with the intention of set-up cost saving and maintenance efficiency. As for the evaluation and improvement on ERP education implementation, its methodologies were introduced through analyzing the advanced cases. Finally in addition to the above three areas, critical success factors for effectively launching ERP education in the universities were suggested through reviewing the previous case studies.
