This paper studies modeling of Jeju 80kV HVDC system and its controller by using PSCAD/EMTDC program. Reduced ac network is applied to verify interaction between ac network and dc system. Design parameter is applied to the converter transformer, harmonic filter and dc transmisstion line to simulate dc system. HVDC controller is divided into a rectifier controller and a inverter controller according to the converter operating mode. The inverter controller is composed of current control, voltage control and extingtion angle control. The rectifier controller is composed of current control and voltage control. Both controller has VDCOL characteristics so that current order is dependant on voltage variation. Step response, ac network single phase fault, three phase fault is simulated to verify the dynamic performance of controller model in both transient state and steady state.

This paper describes the development of KEPCO's 80MVA UPFC electromagnetic transient model and the analysis of its performance in the actual Korean power system. KEPCO's 80MVA UPFC is currently undergoing installation and will be ready for commercial operation from the year 2003. In order to apply a new FACTS device such as the UPFC to the actual power system, the utility needs, in advance, both load flow stability studies and transient studies. Therefore, KEPRI, the research institute of KEPCO, developed a detailed transient analysis model that is based on the actual UPFC S/W algorithm and H/W specifications. This simulation model is implemented by an EMTDC/PSCAD package. The results of the simulation show the effectiveness of UPFC operation in the KEPCO power system.
This paper describes comparative analysis results about the dynamic interaction of interconnected wind power system using the actual-size hardware simulator and the simulation model with PSCAD/EMTDC. The hardware simulator, which is composed of 2.0MVA induction motor with drive system and 1.5MW doubly-fed induction generator, was built and tested in Go-Chang Test Site of KEPCO for analyzing the dynamic interaction with the interconnected distribution system. The operation of hardware simulator was verified through comparative analysis between experimental results and simulation results obtained by simulation model with PSCAD/EMTDC. The developed hardware simulator and simulation model could be effectively used for analyzing the dynamic interaction, which has various phenomena depending on the wind variation and the network state of interconnected power system.

Micro-source units having power ratings in thousands of watts can provide power quality with higher reliability and efficiency than the conventional large scale units. This paper develops switching level model of micro-source and studies the characteristics of the micro-grid consisting of multiple micro-sources and interfaced with electric power system. The developed model adopts the space vector PWM to fully utilize the capacity of inverter. The interaction of the grid connected micro-sources and the characteristics of the control system parameters are investigated. Micro-sources and micro-grid are implemented using PSCAD/EMTDC. Simulation results show that the proposed model is efficient for studying micro-grid system.
At present, domestic small islands mainly supply electric power using diesel generators. However, diesel generators can cause instability of the power system due to slow response on power load fluctuation, and cause environmental problems due to the emission of carbon gas by using fossil fuels. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes a method to establish an optimal microgrid by introducing solar power, wind power, and energy storage device to Chujado Island, which is supplied with electric power through a diesel generator. The economical optimum capacity of each distributed power source is calculated by using HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Multiple Energy Resources) program and the proposed microgrid is validated by using PSCAD/EMTDC (Power Systems Computer Aided Design/ Electromagnetic Transients including DC) program which can analyze system stability.
This paper makes more stronger than original model about sending station fault and saves total construction cost to replace established six-pulse bridge by each six thyristor for DC-transmission. Also, varying of controller for sending station has a robust characteristics for harmonics and unbalanced faults. This paper is verified by simulation using EMTDC program. Comparing with the results of original model, this paper is proved superiority.

This paper describes development of hardware simulator for the PMSG wind power system, which was designed considering wind characteristic, blade characteristic and blade inertia compensation. The simulator consists of three major parts, such as wind turbine model using induction motor, PMSG generator, converter-inverter set. and control system. The turbine simulator generates torque and speed signals for a specific wind turbine with respect to given wind speed. This torque and speed signals are scaled down to fit the input of 2kW PMSG. The PMSG-side converter operates to track the maximum power point, and the grid-side inverter controls the active and reactive power supplied to the grid. The operational feasibility was verified by computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC, and the implementation feasibility was confirmed through experimental works with a hardware set-up.

The need for Fault Current Limiters (FCL) is associated with the continuous growth and interconnection of modem power systems and increase in dispersed generation facilities, which result in progressive increase in the short circuit capacity far beyond their original design capacity. Fault Current Limiters (FCL) clips the fault currents and reduces the electromechanical stresses on the network and the need to handle excessive fault currents. In addition, the reduction of the fault duration Provided by the limiter should increase the power transmission capability and improve the dynamic stability. This paper proposes the model of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter using EMTDC(Electromagnetic transients for DC analysis program). In order to verify the effectiveness of the SFCL, in this paper, the analysis of fault current in a transmission system through the EMTDC based simulation by using the modeled component of a resistive type SFCL is peformed and the detailed results are given.
