  • Recently, using the electronic devices was increased with semiconductor developments. So, the EMI(Electromagnetic interference) problem become to important issue for coexistence with each electronic devices. The EMI is caused by switching operation from the power switches as the FET and the transistor in power conversion devices. In this paper, the hybrid EMI filter that composed with active components and passive components was described. The EMI filter is applied to the 160 watts LED driver experimentally verify the performance. The hybrid EMI filter is compared with non-filter, only passive filter and only active filter. The proposed EMI filter attenuated CM noise more than traditional passive filter.

  • We present the design of an EMI filter to mitigate the electrical noise from the power supply over a broadband of a few tens of KHz to 18GHz. Admitting that our approach is not apart from the standard technology of EMI filter, it is worth checking out how we can implement the filter that meets the challenging spec. on band of operation. The function of the EMI filter is well-depicted by its performance on the CE(Conducted Emission) and RE(Radiated Emission) suppression through tests which convince us of its application to power supplies of land, water and flying vehicles.

  • Planar electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter has significant engineering significance to power electronic system integration and miniaturization. However, the value of differential mode capacitance cannot meet the demand of noise suppression because of the size limit of ceramics. In this case, the EMI filter of novel multilayers is recommended to address this issue. A novel integrated structure of EMI filter based on multilayer ceramic is proposed in this study. The inductance and capacitance of the new structure can be designed separately, which is an advantage in manufacturing. Insertion loss is measured more closely to the actual situation in this study, which is different from the condition where source and load impedances are both 50 Ω. In the process of designing a novel EMI filter, noise impedance is considered. Moreover, the prototype is created and applied to a small switching power supply, which verifies the effectiveness of the developed EMI filter.

  • The EMI filter used in switching apparatus is designed on the basis of personal designer experience. A try and error approach leads to a considerables waste of time without assurance to come out to a good solution. The difficulty in the right choice of the component values resides on the dominant role played by their parasitic components at high frequencies and is aggravated by the poor knowledge of the internal impedance of the noise generators. In this paper, we proposed the design technique for the EMI filter effectively using the LISN and the EMI analyzer in the industrial field.

  • In this study, a zero-crossing spike current issue in a totem-pole bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) converter is comprehensively investigated for the first time. Spike current occurs when input voltage crosses zero, becomes a noise source, and causes severe common mode emission issues. A generation mechanism for electromagnetic interference (EMI) is presented to investigate the EMI problem caused by zero-crossing issue, and a noise spectrum due to this issue is predicted by a theoretical analysis based on the Fourier coefficient of an approximate spike current waveform. Furthermore, a noise reduction method is proposed and then improved to reduce the spike current. Experimental measurements are implemented on a GaN-based totem-pole bridgeless PFC converter, and the spike current can be effectively suppressed through the proposed method. Furthermore, the noise spectrums measured without and with the reduced zero-crossing spike current are compared. Experimental results validate the analysis of the noise spectrum caused by the zero-crossing spike current issue.

  • This paper presents recent trends in system-level EMC investigation and countermeasure technology for radio frequency interference (RFI) influenced by noise generated in high-speed digital system. Recently, as the only digital device can perform various roles, there are a variety of EMI/EMC problems between systems. Especially, RFI is now recognized as a major problem, which occurs by EMI caused by the digital system. Therefore, in this paper, recent trends of RFI investigation from component-level to system-level are introduced and analyzed. Furthermore, in order to solve the RFI problem, recent researches are presented and investigated for the occurrences and suppression methods of common-mode noise which is one of the major noise sources in high-speed digital system. Lastly, this paper suggested future research of system-level EMC analysis and countermeasure technology for RFI problems.

  • In this paper, we propose the methods not only to eliminate ELF(Extremely Low Frequency) EMI(Electro-Magnetic Interference) noice for extending recognition distance, but also to utilize the the PLN for detecting starting instance of a hand gesture using electric potential sensor. First, we measure strength of electric field generated in the smart devices such as TV and phone, and minimize EMI through efficient arrangement of the sensors. Meanwhile, we utilize the 60 Hz PLN to extract the starting point of hand gesture. Thereafter, we eliminate the PLN generated in the smart device and circuit of sensors. And then, we shield the sensors from an electric noise generated from devices. Finally, through analyzing the frequency components according to the gesture of target, we use the low pass filter and the Kalman filter for elimination of remaining electric noise. We analyze and evaluate the proposed ELF-band EMI eliminating method for non-contact remote sensing of the EPS(Electric Potential Sensor). Combined with a detecting technique of gesture starting point, the recognition distance for gestures has been proven to be extended to more than 3m, which is critical for real application.

  • The switching-mode power converter has been widely used because of its features of high efficiency and small weight and size. These features are brought by the ON-OFF operation of semiconductor switching devices. However, this switching operation causes the surge and EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) which deteriorate the reliability of the converter themselves and entire electronic systems. This problem on the surge and noise is one of the most serious difficulties in AC-to-DC converter. In the switching-mode power converter, the output voltage is generally controlled by varying the duty ratio of main switch. When a converter operates in steady state, duty ratio of the converter is kept constant. So the power of switching noise is concentrated in specific frequencies. Generally, to reduce the EMI and improve the immunity of converter system, the switching frequency of converter needs to be properly modulated during a rectified line period instead of being kept constant. Random Pulse Width Modulation (RPWM) is performed by adding a random perturbation to switching instant while output-voltage regulation of converter is performed. RPWM method for reducing conducted EMI in single switch three phase discontinuous conduction mode boost converter is presented. The more white noise is injected, the more conducted EMI is reduced. But output-voltage is not sufficiently regulated. This is the reason why carrier frequency selection topology is proposed. In the case of carrier frequency selection, output-voltage of steady state and transient state is fully regulated. A RPWM control method was proposed in order to smooth the switching noise spectrum and reduce it's level. Experimental results are verified by converter operating at 300V/1kW with 5%~30% white noise input. Spectrum analysis is performed on the Phase current and the CM noise voltage. The former is measured with Current Probe and the latter is achieved with LISN, which are connected to the spectrum analyzer respectively.

  • In this paper, we design a ring inductor using the ferrite core to denoise the EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) for facsimile. The EMI for facsimile is radiated from the signal line of PSTN(Public Switching Telephone Network) between facsimile and PSTN. We denoise the radiated noise by inserting a ferrite core(Ni-Zn) between facsimile and PSTN. Even though we may denoise the radiated noise using two or more than two ferrite cores, we only concentrate on denoising EMI by adjusting number of turns of one ferrite core since it gives economical gain. As a result of measuring EMI using the designed inductor with 4 turns inserted in the line connected between facsimile and PSTN, the value of radiated emission is reduced below 30 dB$\mu$V/m.
