뇌파분석 통한 색상의 선호도 분석 가능성 (The potentiality of color preference analysis by EEG)

  • 인간의 감성에 직접적인 영향과 자극을 주는 색상자극에 대한 생체반응을 정량적으로 분석하기 위하여 3가지 색상 자극(Bright Yellow Red (BYR), Deep Green Yellow (DGY), Vivid Blue (VB))에 대한 뇌파 생리선호(Electroencephalography, EEG)와 선호도와의 상관관계를 연구하였다. 뇌파 분석을 통해 얻은 생체신호는 일반적인 색상의 이미지와 밀접한 상관관계가 있었다. 색온도가 낮을수록 뇌가 활성화 되었고(BYR ${\geq}$ DGY > VB), 좌뇌보다 우뇌가 더 큰 생체반응을 보였다. 전체적으로 주파수 별 뇌파값은 베타파${\geq}$세타파, 알파파> 감마파의 순이었다. 색온도가 낮을수록 Beta파의 뇌파 power 증가(BYR ${\geq}$ DGY > VB)하였고, 그러고 나머지 파(세타파, 베타파, 감마파)의 경우에는 색온도가 낮을수록 이들 주파수의 뇌파 power가 증가(BYR ${\geq}$ DGY > VB)하였다. 색상별 선호도와 뇌의 활성화의 상관관계는 색상에 대한 선호도가 높을수록 특정 주파수대의 뇌파가 활성화되었다. 선호도에 따른 뇌파반응은 좌 우뇌간에 유사한 생리적 반응을 보였으나, 후두부 보다는, 전두부에서 뚜렷한 상관관계를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 선호도가 높은 색상자극을 통해 특정 주파수 영역의 뇌파를 활성화가 가능하며, 색을 이용하는 다양한 분야(뷰티산업, 인테리어, 색채치료, 의상 등)에 적용가능성이 높다는 것을 의미한다.

Acupuncture for Attenuating Frontal Lobe α Band Asymmetry Induced by Anger: a pilot study

  • Objectives: Previous studies have shown that anger can lead to frontal lobe α (8-13 Hz) band asymmetry (FAA) in electroencephalogram (EEG), in accordance with motivational direction. This pilot study aimed to investigate the impact of acupuncture on FAA elicited by anger. Methods: Thirty-four right-handed participants scoring above 75 points on the Novaco Anger Scale were included. Baseline EEG signals were recorded for eight minutes using a 32-channel cap under comfortable conditions. Anger was induced through a nine-minute sequence of Articulated Thoughts in Simulated Situations (ATSS) task. Following that, participants received acupuncture at GB20 and GB21 for 10 minutes. Fast Fourier transform was employed for frequency analysis, and repeated measure ANOVA was conducted for statistical analysis. Results: The results revealed that participants exhibited significantly higher FAA (p = 0.026), particularly in the left hemisphere, after the ATSS task sequence compared to the baseline. During acupuncture treatment, the greater left-sided FAA was significantly reduced (p = 0.027) and reversed. Upon the cessation of acupuncture, FAA returned to a value between the baseline and the anger-evoked stage (p = 0.046). Conclusion: The EEG results of this study revealed that anger stimulation induced an increase in left-sided FAA, which was effectively alleviated by acupuncture. This led to an immediate restoration of FAA asymmetry induced by anger. These findings suggest the potential of acupuncture as a treatment option for reducing FAA associated with anger.

운전거동에 따른 운전자 뇌파특성에 관한 연구 (A Research on the Characteristics of EEG Information on Drive Behavior)

  • 본 연구는 차량운전의 주체인 인간이 실제 차량을 운전하면서 나타나게 되는 수많은 반응 중 생체정보인 뇌파를 측정 장비를 이용하여 도로주행 중 발생하는 뇌파를 수집하고 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 하여 실험횟수, 주행시간에 따른 변화, 도로 기하구조에 따른 변화 등 요인을 추출하고 분석을 실시하였다. 주행실험 중 발생한 뇌파 변화를 분석에 필요한 알파(${\alpha}$)파, 베타(${\beta}$)파, 감마(${\gamma}$)파의 형태로 1차 추출을 한 후, 실험 전 구간에서의 뇌파 발생 빈도와 변화율을 추출하고 실험 횟수에 증가에 따른 학습효과를 관찰하고자 회귀모형을 적용하여 뇌파 특성에 따른 빈도변화를 계산하였다. 그 결과, 실험 횟수에 따라 뇌파는 개인차에 의한 변화를 보였으며 이는 같은 구간을 반복적으로 주행함에 따라 운전자가 도로 기하구조와 신호, 안전시설 등을 기억함에 따라 익숙하고 편안하게 주행하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

심리적 처치프로그램에서 고등학교 학생들의 뇌파반응에 따른 수학불안의 변화 (The Changes of Mathematics Anxiety Shown Brain-Based Measurement through a Remedy Program for High School Students)

  • 수학불안은 부정적인 수학에 대한 자아개념을 형성 하게 할 뿐 아니라 학습 장애 요인으로 작용할 수 있기에 수학불안 요인을 찾고 그에 알맞은 처치 방안을 고안해내는 것이 중요하다. 이에 본 연구는 고등학교 학생들을 대상으로 수학 내적 요인, 학습 방법 요인, 시험 및 성적 요인, 수학 외적 요인을 감소시켜줄 수 있는 심리적 처치프로그램을 개발 하고, 개발된 프로그램을 적용시킴으로써 수학불안 감소에 어떠한 효과가 있는지를 연구하였다. 수원에 위치한 S 외국어고등학교 총 11명의 학생을 연구 대상으로 하였고, 10주간 심리적 처치 프로그램 실시 후에 수학불안과 뇌파검사를 측정하고, 이를 분석하였다. 분석결과 본 프로그램의 지속적인 심리적 처치는 어느 정도 수학불안 감소에 도움이 될 수 있으며, 수학불안에 대해 학생별 진단이 지필 검사지에 의한 일차적 분석에만 근거하지 않고, EEG에 의한 다차원적인 요인 분석의 가능성을 확인하는 계기가 되었다.

대사성 뇌병증에서 삼상파의 중요성 (Significance of Triphasic Waves in Metabolic Encephalopathy)

  • Background: Triphasic waves are one of the electroencephalographic patterns that can be usually seen in metabolic encephalopathy. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical and electrophysiologic profiles between patients with and without triphasic waves in metabolic encephalopathy, and reassess the significance of triphasic waves in metabolic encephalopathy. Methods: We recruited 127 patients with metabolic encephalopathy, who were admitted to our hospital. We divided these admitted patients into two groups; those with and without triphasic waves. We analyzed the difference of duration of hospitalization, mortality rate during admission, Glasgow Coma Scale, severity of electroencephalographic alteration, and presence of acute symptomatic seizures between these two groups. Results: Of the 127 patients with metabolic encephalopathy, we excluded 67 patients who did not have EEG, and 60 patients finally met the inclusion criteria for this study. Patients with triphasic waves had more severe electroencephalographic alterations, lower Glasgow Coma Scale, and more acute symptomatic seizures than those without triphasic waves. After adjusting the clinical variables, Glasgow Coma Scale and acute symptomatic seizures were only significantly different between patients with and without triphasic waves. Conclusions: We demonstrated that patients with triphasic waves in metabolic encephalopathy had more significant impairment of the brain function.

건설근로자의 통합적 스트레스 반응과 뇌파신호의 상관관계 분석 (Correlation Analysis between Integrated Stress Responses and EEG Signals of Construction Workers)

  • 본 연구는 건설 근로자의 안전사고를 예방하기 위해 사고와 밀접한 관련이 있는 스트레스를 건설현장에서 즉각적이면서도 편리하게 측정할 수 있는 방법에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 이에 따라 인간의 복잡한 심리와 관련된 스트레스를 감정, 인지, 신체, 행동적 반응을 통합하여 측정할 수 있는 설문 도구와 뇌파를 통해 수집된 기본 뇌파, SEF-90, 집중도, 스트레스 지수 간의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 그 결과 설문을 통한 스트레스 측정값과 가장 상관관계가 높게 나온 뇌파는 SEF-90였으며, 두 독립변수간 회귀분석을 실시한 결과 특정 회귀식을 도출하였다. 이는 건설 현장에서 뇌파 신호를 통해 건설근로자의 통합적 스트레스를 측정할 수 있는 가능성을 제시한 것으로 향후 건설 현장의 안전관리에 활용할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

Antiepileptic and anti-neuroinflammatory effects of red ginseng in an intrahippocampal kainic acid model of temporal lobe epilepsy demonstrated by electroencephalography

  • Background: Chronic inflammation can lower the seizure threshold and have influence on epileptogenesis. The components of red ginseng (RG) have anti-inflammatory effects. The abundance of peripherally derived immune cells in resected epileptic tissue suggests that the immune system is a potential target for anti-epileptogenic therapies. The present study used continuous electroencephalography (EEG) to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of RG in intrahippocampal kainic acid (IHKA) animal model of temporal lobe epilepsy. Methods: Prolonged status epilepticus (SE) was induced in 7-week-old C57BL/6J mice via stereotaxic injection of kainic acid (KA, 150 nL; 1 mg/mL) into the right CA3/dorsal hippocampus. The animals were implanted electrodes and monitored for spontaneous seizures. Following the IHKA injections, one group received treatments of RG (250 mg/kg/day) for 4 weeks (RG group, n=7) while another group received valproic acid (VPA, 30 mg/kg/day) (VPA group, n=7). Laboratory findings and pathological results were assessed at D29 and continuous (24 h/week) EEG monitoring was used to evaluate high-voltage sharp waves on D7, D14, D21, and D28. Results: At D29, there were no differences between the groups in liver function test but RG group had higher blood urea nitrogen levels. Immunohistochemistry analyses revealed that RG reduced the infiltration of immune cells into the brain and EEG analyses showed that it had anticonvulsant effects. Conclusion: Repeated treatments with RG after IHKA-induced SE decreased immune cell infiltration into the brain and resulted in a marked decrease in electrographic seizures. RG had anticonvulsant effects that were similar to those of VPA without serious side effects.

SD 및 EEG 기법을 통한 자연 및 도시경관의 시지각적 인지분석 (SD and EEG Evaluation of the Visual Cognition to the Natural and Urban Landscape)

  • The color and structure of urban constructions is a factor of urban landscape and shows their characteristics. Hence the modern buildings deal with their materials and external appearance as an important factor, making up the urban image. But it was nearby impossible to evaluate the value of visual landscape with objective measuring method. Most of all, it depends on the subjective estimation of a few talented or high educated experts with a sense of beauty. Such kinds of estimation can in some cases include arbitrary interpretations. In relation to this kind of problems, it is tried here in this study to analyse the human response of brain wave pattern (EEG) with use of SD method, while the tested persons watch the urban landscape scenery constructed in a visual reality. The tested persons were 20 adult male and female with no color blindness and intact cognitive function. Light source with color filter was used for color environment in a dark soundproof chamber. The signal of EEG is analysed digitally and grouped into the ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ waves. The result showed that relative power of ${\alpha}$ wave ratio increased in the natural landscape scenery with blue and green color. From these results it was possible to evaluate the human response, which is affected by urban and natural color and structure stimulation and it might be useful as an indicator of visual cognition amenity toward the design of urban construction environment.

스마트폰 유형에 따른 문자 입력 시 뇌파 및 아래팔 근활성도 비교 (A Comparison of EEG and Forearms EMG Activity depend on the Type of Smartphone when Inputting Text Messages)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between smartphone addiction propensities and compare muscle activity of the forearms and brain wave depend on the type of smartphone when inputting text messages. Method: We used an EMG to measure the change in muscle activity by attaching pads to the four muscles in both forearms of all 16 participants. We simultaneously conducted EEG measurements by observing the changes in alpha and beta waves recorded from electrode attached to both ears and the forehead of the participants. The participants had to input a given text using three different types of smartphones for ten minutes each. Result: The comparison of the EMG when inputting text involved a one way analysis of variance and the results showed that the iPad3 was highest for muscle activity followed by GALAXY Note2 and iPhone4. For EEG measurement, a one way analysis of variance was also used and the results showed iPhone4 was higest followed by GALAXY Note2 and finally iPad3 for EEG stress score. Conclusion: The results are thought to be used as reference data for smart phone users.

주거단지의 시청각 조경요소 변화에 따른 감성평가 (Emotional Evaluation According to the Changes of Visual and Auditory Landscape Elements in Residential Areas)

  • This study aims to clarify differences among the responses of users depending on variations in audio-visual landscape elements used to create amenities in residential areas. For the purpose, a laboratory experiment was performed to evaluate the emotions of subjects. As a result of subjective evaluation, it was found that the emotions of subjects were more significantly promoted in providing both sounds and images at the same time, than in providing images alone. In addition, as a result of comparing the variables of relativistic energy alpha waves have by measuring their brain waves, it was seen that alpha waves increased when providing harmonious sound sources with images, except for specific sound sources. Thus, it is considered that provision of sound sources capable of promoting human emotions can contribute greatly to improving the value of space for the sake of comfortable housing environment.
