Lodging rice is one of critical agro-meteorological disasters. In this study, the UAV-based multispectral imageries before and after rice lodging in rice paddy field of Jeollanamdo agricultural research and extension servicesin 2020 was analyzed. The UAV imagery on 14th Aug. includesthe paddy rice without any damage. However, 4th and 19th Sep. showed the area of rice lodging. Multispectral camera of 10 bands from 444 nm to 842 nm was used. At the area of restoration work against lodging rice, the reflectance from 531 nm to 842 nm were decreased in comparison to un-lodging rice. At the area of lodging rice, the reflectance of around 668 nm had small increases. Further, the blue and NIR (Near-Infrared) wavelength had larger. However, according to the types of lodging, the change of reflectance was different. The NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and NDRE (Normalized Difference Red Edge) shows dome sensitivities to lodging rice, but they were different to types of lodging. These results will be useful to make algorithm to detect the area of lodging rice using a UAV.
This study was to examine the characteristics of wirdbirds habitat for improvement plan in green corridor. The target site, Gangseo-gu artificial green corridor was set up with the structure in which small scale of core green space with Goongsan and Yeomchang neighborhood parks in urbanized city was connected with the artificial green space with Gongamnaru, Hwanggeumnae neighborhood parks with 28~42.5 m in width. Wild birds six~eleven species; Dendrocopos spp, Paradoxornis webbiana, Parus major, Phasianus colchicus, etc. were observed in core green, but wild birds of two~five species: Columba livuia, Passer montanus, Pica pica, Hypsipetes amaurotis, etc. were observed in artificial green space. Thus wild birds of artificial and generalist species only moved in artificial green space. The artificial green space where vegetation structure was consisted of single-layer with poorness chose target species laying stress on generalist species and edge species of Parus major, P. palustris, Paradoxornis webbiana etc. for short-term and interior species of Dendrocopos major, Picus canus, etc. for long-term. The result suggested enhancement methods for target species's habitat in green corridor: to secure at least a corridor 30 meters in artificial corridor, to secure ecological pond, to offer the various shelterer and environment of prey-resources through the multi-layer structure.

An invasive disturbance species has caused harm to biodiversity and ecosystem. To address the issue, identifying the characteristics of a habitat for invasive disturbance species is considered for forest management. This study analyzed a status of plant species by field survey based on belt transect method in the capital areas and established a predictive model for invasive disturbance species by logistic regression. As results of the study, the number of herb, vine, and invasive disturbance species and a canopy cover of tree would decrease from the forest edge to core areas (p<0.001). The predictive model was derived with variables of altitude, Topographic Wetness Index, distance to forest edge, and canopy cover of tree. It can be useful in estimating the presence or absence of species and predicting its spatial distribution. Further studies are needed to identify the pathway of introduction, spread, and possibility of germination for understanding the status of invasive disturbance species in more depth.

This study proposes a classification method based on an automated training extraction procedure that may be used with very high resolution (VHR) images of non-accessible areas. The proposed method overcomes the problem of scale difference between VHR images and geographic information system (GIS) data through filtering and use of a Landsat image. In order to automate maximum likelihood classification (MLC), GIS data were used as an input to the MLC of a Landsat image, and a binary edge and a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were used to increase the purity of the training samples. We identified the thresholds of an NDVI and binary edge appropriate to obtain pure samples of each class. The proposed method was then applied to QuickBird and SPOT-5 images. In order to validate the method, visual interpretation and quantitative assessment of the results were compared with products of a manual method. The results showed that the proposed method could classify VHR images and efficiently update GIS data.

Buildings become complex and diverse with time. It is difficult to extract individual buildings using only an optical image, because they have similar spectral characteristics to objects such as vegetation and roads. In this study, we propose a method to extract building area and boundary through integrating airborne Light Detection and Ranging(LiDAR) data and aerial images. Firstly, a binary edge map was generated using Edison edge detector after applying Adaptive dynamic range linear stretching radiometric enhancement algorithm to the aerial image. Secondly, building objects on airborne LiDAR data were extracted from normalized Digital Surface Model and aerial image. Then, a temporary building areas were extracted by overlaying the binary edge map and building objects extracted from LiDAR data. Finally, some building boundaries were additionally refined considering positional accuracy between LiDAR data and aerial image. The proposed method was applied to two experimental sites for validation. Through error matrix, F-measure, Jaccard coefficient, Yule coefficient, and Overall accuracy were calculated, and the values had a higher accuracy than 0.85.
Background: Natural forests are generally considered to be less prone to biological invasions than other modified ecosystems, particularly when canopy cover is high. Few decades of management of degraded forests by local communities in Nepal has increased canopy cover and altered disturbance regimes. These changes might have reduced the abundance of invasive alien plant species (IAPS) in forests. To understand the status of IAPS in such forests, we studied two community managed Shorea robusta forests (Sundari and Dhusheri) of Nawalpur district in central Nepal. In these two forests, vegetation sampling was done using circular plots 10 m radius at forest edge, gaps, and within canopy. Variation of IAPS richness and cover across these microhabitats were compared, and their variation with tree canopy cover and basal area analyzed. Result: Altogether 14 IAPS were recorded in the study forests; among them Chromolaena odorata, Ageratum houstonianum, and Lantana camara had the highest frequency. Mikania micrantha was at the early stage of colonization in Sundari Community Forest (CF) but absent in Dhuseri CF. Both IAPS cover and richness was higher at forest edge and gap than in canopy plots and both these attributes declined with increasing canopy cover and tree basal area. Conclusion: The results indicate that increase in canopy cover and closure of forest gaps through participatory management of degraded forests can prevent plant invasions and suppress the growth of previously established IAPS in Shorea robusta forests of Nepal. This is the unacknowledged benefit of participatory forest management in Nepal.
To investigate and analyze the vegetational structure, thirty sites were sampled with clumped sampling method and seventeen belt transects were sampled to analyze the vegetational change during 8 years(from 1978 to 1986)at the Namsan Nature Park in Seoul. Robinia pseudoacacia community of actual vegetation covered 29.39%, Quercus mongolica community 21.25% and Pinus densiflora community 17.58% of the Mt. Namsan forest. The degree of human disturbance of vegetation of 8, 7 and 6 area covered 43.2%, 7.8% and 30.8% respectively. The Quercus mongolica community at the northern slope and R. pseudoacacia community at the edge zone will keep their present structure. And P. densiflora community at the eastern and southern slope shall be succeeded to deciduous trees such as Q. mongolica. As to changes of plant community structure during 8 years, density of understory species, species diversity and Raunkiaer's frequency class A and E showed an increase and vegetation structure was developed to unification.
This study conducted surveys to identify the distribution of communities and flora according to vegetation in the coastal sand dunes of Sagye in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, located at the southernmost tip of Korea. The survey was conducted over 20 sessions from April 2020 to October 2021. As a result of the study, physiognomy was classified into six correlated vegetation types: plant communities on the salt marsh, annual communities on a coastal drift-line, herb communities on a dune, shrub communities on a coastal dune, forest-edge communities on a dune, and artificial afforestation vegetation. The survey identified 43 communities, and a total of 212 taxa were found to be distributed among 62 families, 166 genera, 191 species, 15 varieties, 3 subspecies, and 3 forma. It was found that there were five rare plant taxa distributed in the area, including the Cymbidium macrorrhizum which was classified as an endangered Class II plant by the Ministry of Environment. Floristic target species identified by the surveys included 2 taxa for grade V, 5 taxa for grade IV, 15 taxa for grade III, 14 taxa for grade II, and 19 taxa for grade I. Climate-sensitive biological indicator species included 11 indicator and 2 candidate species, representing a high ratio of 33.3% of all indicator species and 15.4% of candidate species. Naturalized plants included 16 families, 43 genera, and 52 taxa, with a naturalization rate of 21.1% and an urbanization index of 24.5%. It is expected that these results will be widely used as data needed to prepare conservation and management measures for biodiversity in response to climate change in coastal dunes in the future.
An aquatic oligochaete species, $Ripistes$$parasita$ (Schmidt, 1847) collected from Ganghwado Island in Korea, is described and illustrated. Specimens inhabiting on aquatic vegetation at the edge of the streams were collected with a plankton hand net. Morphological features of present specimens such as the number of long hair chaetae per bundle and their length in VI-VIII, and shape and size of ventral chaetae are concordant with those of previous reports on this species. The genus $Ripistes$ contains one species, $R.$$parasite$ which is distributed over, Europe, North America and eastern part of Asia including China and Japan. This is the first record of $R.$$parasita$ in Korea.

Increase in avian species richness is one of the important issues of urban biodiversity policies, since it can promote diverse ecosystem services such as seed dispersal, education, and pollination. However, though human disturbance can significantly affect avian species richness, there are limited studies on the way to reflect the dynamics of floating population. Therefore, this study analyzed the spatial relationship between avian species richness, floating population, and vegetation cover using telecommunications information to identify the areas that requiring targeted monitoring and restoration action. Bivariate Local Moran's I was applied to identify LISA cluster map that showing representative biotopes, which reflect significant spatial relationship between species richness and population distribution. Edge density and distribution of ndvi were identified for evaluating relative adequacy of selected biotopes to strengthen the robust biodiversity network. This study offers insight to consider human disturbance in spatial context using innovative big data to increase the effectiveness of urban biodiversity measures.
