Smooth Edge Images Based on a Multilevel Morphological Filter

  • Edge detection is an important problem in computer vision and image understanding. Because the threshold is difficult to properly determine, edge images gained by the usually gradient-based segmentation methods are often tend to have many disjoint or overlapping boundaries, which makes the edge images spinous. In this paper, a practical multilevel morphological filter is presented for smoothing spinous edge images. The experimental results show that the method is effective in dealing with the images of a target in the sky.

  • The edge detection system makes use or 3*3 compass gradient masks, which are well suited for digital implementation. Edge angles are quantized to eight equally spaced directions, suitable for chain coding of contours. Use of edge direction msp improves the simple thresholding of gradient modulus image. The concept of local connectivity of the edge direction map is useful improving the performance of this method as well as other edge operators such as Kirsch and Sobel.

  • Most image restoration problems are ill-posed and need to e regularized. A difficult task in image regularization is to avoid smoothing of image edges. In this paper, were proposed an edge-preserving image restoration algorithm using block-based edge classification. In order to exploit the local image characteristics, we classify image blocks into edge and no-edge blocks. We then apply an adaptive constrained least squares (CLS) algorithm to eliminate noise around the edges. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can preserve image edges during the regularization process.

  • Color image edge detection is an important operation in many image processing areas. This paper presents a new method for edge detection based on the Bhattacharyya distance that can handle arbitrary boundaries by exploring several edge patterns. Experiments show promising results compared to some existing methods.

The Fibonacci Edge Labeling on Fibonacci Trees

  • We present a novel graph labeling problem called Fibonacci edge labeling. The constraint in this labeling is placed on the allowable edge label which is the difference between the labels of endvertices of an edge. Each edge label should be (3m+2)-th Fibonacci numbers. We show that every Fibonacci tree can be labeled Fibonacci edge labeling. The labelings on the Fibonacci trees are applied to their embeddings into Fibonacci Circulants.

  • 집속음장이 고조파성분을 이용한 초음파영상의 특성을 해석하는 초기단계로서 음축에 수직하게 놓인 강체판의 직선 edge가 집속 가우스빔을 회절시킨다고 가정하고, edge의 전후에서 발생하는 제 2고조파를 고려해서 회절음장을 해석하였다. 계산에서는 그린함수의 간단화를 위해 , Fresnel 근사를 이용하였고 실험에서는 성형전극을 형성시킨 요면 압전진동자에 의한 1.9MHz 집속가우스음원에 의해 만들어지는 초음파 빔에 수직하게 edge을 삽입시켰다. 회절 edge 후방에서 음장을 관측한 결과, 제 2고조파의 빔형상을 제외하고는 계산치와 실험치가 잘 일치하고 있다.

Efficient Use of MPEG-7 Edge Histogram Descriptor

  • MPEG-7 Visual Standard specifies a set of descriptors that can be used to measure similarity in images or video. Among them, the Edge Histogram Descriptor describes edge distribution with a histogram based on local edge distribution in an image. Since the Edge Histogram Descriptor recommended for the MPEG-7 standard represents only local edge distribution in the image, the matching performance for image retrieval may not be satisfactory. This paper proposes the use of global and semi-local edge histograms generated directly from the local histogram bins to increase the matching performance. Then, the global, semi-global, and local histograms of images are combined to measure the image similarity and are compared with the MPEG-7 descriptor of the local-only histogram. Since we exploit the absolute location of the edge in the image as well as its global composition, the proposed matching method can retrieve semantically similar images. Experiments on MPEG-7 test images show that the proposed method yields better retrieval performance by an amount of 0.04 in ANMRR, which shows a significant difference in visual inspection.

Edge Vegetation Structure in Odaesan National Park (오대산 국립공원의 주연부 식생 구조)

  • To investigate edge vegetation struxture and species in Odaesan National park, fild survey was excuted July 1-4, 1995 and the results were as follows. Species compasition of edge(0~10m) was dissimilar to that of forest interior(50m~60m) at (Mt.)Odaesan valley. Species diversity indices, number of species, crown coverage and number of individuals were decreased axxording to distance from edge to forest interior. Weigela subsessilis was appeared to be a competitive species at forest edge in temperate forest and edge species appeared only in Odaesan National Park were Clematis heracleaefolia and Spiraea blumei.

  • Edge Histogram Descriptor는 image의 edge 분포 정보를 표현하며 방향성을 가지는 Bio Image 검색에 있어 높은 검색 성능을 나타낸다. 그러나 Bio Image의 객체 분포의 특성으로 인해 지역적 edge 분포 비교는 충분한 검색 성능을 보장하지는 못한다. 본 논문에서는 특징 block을 이용한 효율적인 검색 알고리즘을 제안한다. Local histogram으로부터 Global bin을 얻어 image의 대표 방향성을 선정하고 특징 block을 선정한다. 특징 block의 비교는 edge 분포와 함께 주요 객체의 위치 정보를 더하는 효과를 가진다. Bio Image의 검색 실험에서 제안 알고리즘은 향상된 검색 성능을 보여준다. 또한 Bio image 검색을 위한 descriptor 조합 연구에도 적용 가능하여 검색 효율을 기대할 수 있다.
