  • This paper describes the design of echo cancslling method(ECM) for transmission with full-duplex which ie transmitted on "2B+D"(144kbps)data through two-wire loop plants. The design objective is 40dB attenuation with a signal-to-noise ratio of $10{\sim}20dB$. Since the transhybrid loos can be as low as $6{\sim}10dB$, the required attenuation of the echo signal is on the order of $50{\sim}55dB$. The used algorithms based on the sign algorithm, and have been improved by using adoptive reference voltage level algorithm.

  • Micro electrochemical machining (ECM) is conducted on stainless steel 304 using non-toxic electrolyte of citric acid. Electrochemical dissolution region is minimized by applying a few hundred second duration pulses between the tungsten SPM tip and the work material. ECM characteristics according to citric acid concentration, feeding velocity and electric conditions such as pulse amplitude, pulse frequency, and offset voltage are investigated through a series of experiments. Micro holes of $60{\mu}m$ in diameter with the depth of $50{\mu}m$ and $90{\mu}m$ in diameter with the depth of $100{\mu}m$ are perforated. Square and circular micro cavities are also manufactured by electrochemical milling. This research can contribute to the development of safe and environmentally friendly micro ECM process.

  • Cabral et al. (2012) defined a mixture model of multivariate skew t-distributions(STMM), and proposed the use of an ECME algorithm (a variation of a standard EM algorithm) to fit the model. Their estimation by the ECME algorithm is closely related to the estimation of the degree of freedoms in the STMM. With the ECME, their purpose is to escape from the calculation of a conditional expectation that is not provided by a closed form; however, their estimates are quite unstable during the procedure of the ECME algorithm. In this paper, we provide a conditional expectation as a closed form so that it can be easily calculated; in addition, we propose to use the ECM algorithm in order to stably fit the STMM.

  • Hepatic fibrosis/cirrhosis is characterized by increased production and deposition of collagen, noncollagenous glycaproteins, and proteoglycans, which mainly compose the extracellular matrix (ECM). Recently, activations of macrophages, myofibroblasts and mast cells are thaught ta be associated with the accumulation of ECM. In order to investigate the kinetics of macrophages, myofibroblasts and mast cells and the relationship between these cells and the accumulation of ECM in carban tetrachloride (CCl$_4$)-injected rat liver, we induced liver cirrhosis of rat by an injection of CCl$_4$ for 14 weeks. • Sperm competent for fertilization can become capacitated, bind to the zona pellucida (ZP) of an egg in a specific manner, and complete acrosomal exocytosis. Failure to carry out these functions results in infertility. Although the interactions between the ZP and the plasma mem-brane overlying the sperm acrosome have been considered important for sperm-egg recognition and signalling, recent results have prompted a reassessment of current paradigms concerning these interactions. In this review, we're going to discuss about the roles of the acrosomal matrix, the particulate component of the acrosomal contents, in fertilization. The general hypothesis is that acrosomal exocytosis leads to the exposure of acrosomal matrix proteins that become de-facto extracellular matrix (ECM) on the surface of the sperm head, and that the dynamic interactions of this newly-exposed sperm ECM with the egg ECM (the ZP) govern sperm-egg recognition and sperm penetration of the ZP Informations from these experiments may provide new ways to address the poor ZP binding of sperm from some human infertility patients and may offer new avenues for contraception through the disruption of purposeful sperm-ZP binding.

  • This study was conducted to investigate colonization of ectomycorrhizal fungi(ECM) in roots of Abies koreana which is an endemic and endangered species in Korea. Roots of A. koreana were collected at Mt. Halla. ECM root tips were classified using morphotyping and identified using sequences of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the fungal rDNA. Total 8 species of ECM fungi were identified from roots of 11 seedlings of A. koreana : Cenococum geophilum, Russula brevipes, 2 species of Russula, 2 species of Thelephora, Cortinarius camphorates and 2 species of Helotiales. These species were known to be typical ectomycorrhizal fungi found in coniferous mature forests.

  • Tungsten wire micro electrochemical machining (W-wire micro ECM) with ultra-short pulses enables precise micro machining of metal. In wire micro ECM, platinum wire has been used because it is electrochemically stable. However, the micro metal wire with low strength is easily deformed by hydrogen bubbles which are generated during the machining. The wire deformation decreases the machining accuracy. To reduce the influence of hydrogen bubbles, in this paper, the use of tungsten wire was investigated. To improve machining accuracy, suitable pulse conditions which affect generation of bubbles were also investigated. The tungsten wire micro ECM can be applied to the fabrication of various shapes. Using this method, various micro-parts and shapes were fabricated.

  • This paper deals with the problem of multiuser detection over a direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) channel with incomplete channel state informations (I-CSI). We devise and assess two novel recursive detectors based on the expectation conditional maximization (ECM) algorithm and the generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) principle, respectively. Both receivers entail an affordable computational complexity. Moreover, the performance assessment, conducted via Monte Carlo techniques, shows that they achieve satisfactory performance levels and outperform linear detectors.

  • Tumor cell interaction with the extracellular matrix (ECM) is defined as the critical event of tumor invasion that signals the initiation of a metastatic cascade. To search for anti-metastatic agent from plants, several plant extracts were screened by cell- ECM anti-adhesion test. As result, Boehmeria pannosa, Dryopteris crassirhizoma, Scilla scilloides, and Agrimonia pilosa were shown a significant anti-adhesion activity.
