Developmental Patterns of Gal$\beta$1,3(4)GlcNAc $\alpha$2,3-Sialyltransferase (ST3Gal III) Expression in the Mouse: In Situ Hybridization Using DIG-labeled RNA Probes

  • Sialic acids are key determinants for biological processes, such as cell-cell interaction and differentiation. Sialyltransferases contribute to the diversity in carbohydrate structure through their attachment of sialic acid in various terminal positions on glycolipid and glycoprotein (N-linked and O-linked) carbohydrate groups. Gal$\beta$ 1,3(4)GlcNAc $\alpha$2,3-sialyltransferase (ST3Gal III) is involved in the biosynthesis of $sLe^{X}$ and sLe^{a}$ known as selection ligands and tumor-associated carbohydrate structures. The appearance and differential distribution of ST3Gal III mRNA during mice embryogenesis [embryonic (E) days; E9, E11, E13, E15] were investigated by in situ hybridization with digoxigenin-labeled RNA probes coupled with alkaline phosphatase detection. On E9, all tissues were positive for ST3Gal III mRNA expression whereas ST3Gal III mRNA on E11 was not detected throughout all tissues. On E13, ST3GAl III mRNA was expressed in different manner in various tissues. In this stage, ST3Gal III mRNA was positive only in the liver, pancreas and bladder. On E15, specific signal for ST3GAl III was detected in the liver, lung and forebrain. These results indicate that ST3Gal III is differently expressed at developmental stages of mice embryo, and this may be importantly related with regulation of organogenesis in mice.

Optical properties of the $A1_{0.15}$$Ga_{0.85}$N/GaN thin film ($A1_{0.15}$$Ga_{0.85}$N/GaN 박막의 광학적 특성)

  • In order to investigate the optical properties of the $Al_XGa_{1-X}N/GaN$ thin film grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method, the photoluminescene (PL), photocurrent (PC) and persistent photoconductivity (PPC) measurements were carried out at room temperature. The band gap of the $A1_x$$Ga_{1-x}$N/GaN was determined to 3.70 eV by the PL and PC measurements. The PC measurement on the light illumination from the top of the $A1_x$$Ga_{1-x}$N/GaN thin film provides peaks at 3.70, 3.43, and around 2.2 eV. The PC spectrum by the illumination passing through from the substrate of the sample can be shown at 3.43 eV together with a broad tail band from the GaN band edge to around 2.23 eV. The photocurrent quenching and anomalous PPC decay observed in PPC measurements indicate that metastable electron states are fomed in the band gap of GaN layer to trap electrons which can be tunneled the potential barrier for long recovery time.

  • Let G = (V, E) be a graph. Consider the group S3. Let g : V (G) → S3 be a function. For each edge xy assign the label 1 if ${\lceil}{\frac{o(g(x))+o(g(y))}{2}}{\rceil}$ is odd or 0 otherwise. g is a group S3 mean cordial labeling if |vg(i) - vg(j)| ≤ 1 and |eg(0) - eg(1)| ≤ 1, where vg(i) and eg(y)denote the number of vertices labeled with an element i and number of edges labeled with y (y = 0, 1). The graph G with group S3 mean cordial labeling is called group S3 mean cordial graph. In this paper, we discuss group S3 mean cordial labeling for star related graphs.

  • Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer (P. ginseng) is known to exert a wide range of pharmacological effects both in vitro and in vivo. Although studies on ginsenoside, antioxidant activity, and anticancer effect of wild simulated ginseng (WSG) have been conducted, there is little research on the effect of WSG on bone metabolism. In this study, we investigated the potential anti-osteoporotic properties of WSG on the growth and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells. WSG significantly increased the viability and proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells. WSG activated intracellular alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in MC3T3-E1 cells. In addition, WSG increased the mineralized nodules in MC3T3-E1 cells. Furthermore, WSG increased the expression of genes such as Runx2, ALP, OPN and OCN associated with osteoblast growth and differentiation in a dose-dependent manner.

Frequencies and Distributions of Unexpected Antibodies at a General Hospital in the Daejeon of Korea (대전지역 일개 종합병원에서의 비예기 항체 발생현황과 분포)

  • When preparing for a blood transfusion, the presence and types of unexpected antibodies should be identified through screening tests. Using the DiaMed-ID system, antibody identification among unexpected antibody screening tests performed at a university hospital in Daejeon area for two years from January 2016 to December 2017 were limited to 55 patients and were predominantly women. A total of 36 patients (65.5%) belonged to the Rh group, 7 (12.7%) patients to the Lewis group, 4 (7.3%) patients to the Kidd and Duffy groups, 3 patients (5.5%) to the MNS group, and 1 (1.8%) to the Rh+Kidd combined group. In the Rh group, 19 (34.5%) patients had Anti-E single antibody, 5 (9.1%) patients had Anti-D single antibody, 4 (7.3%) patients had Anti-E/-c, 4 (7.3%) patients had Anti-C/-e, and 1 (1.8%) patient had $Anti-E/-c/-Jk^b$. In the Lewis group, three (5.5%) patients had both $Anti-Le^a$ and $Anti-Le^b$. In the Kidd group, one (1.8%) patient had $Anti-Jk^a$ and three (5.5%) patients had $Anti-Jk^b$. In the Duffy and MNS groups, only single antibody was found: one (1.8%) patient with $Anti-Fy^a$, three (5.5%) patients with $Anti-Fy^b$, two (3.6%) patients with Anti-M, and one (1.8%) patient with Anti-S. This study reflects the recent frequencies and distributions of unexpected antibodies in Daejeon, which would be helpful for the efficient preparation for transfusions.

  • mST3GaIV synthesizes ganglioside GM3, the precursor for simple and complex a- and b- series gangliosides, and the expression and regulation of mST3GaIV (CMP-NeuAc: lactosylceramide $\alpha$2,3-sialyltransferase) activity is central to the production of almost all gangliosides, a class of glycosphingolipids implicated in variety of cellular processes such as transmembrane signaling, synaptic transmission, specialized membrane domain formation and cell-cell interactions. To understand the developmental expression of mST3GaIV in mice, we investigated the spatial and temporal expression of mST3GaIV mRNA during the mouse embryogenesis [embryonic (E) days; 19, E11, E13, E15] by in situ hybridization with digoxigenin-labeled RNA probes. All tissues from 19 and E11 were positive for mST3GaIV mRNA. On E13, mST3GaIV mRNA was expressed in various neural and non-neural tissues. In contrast to these, on E15, the telencephalon and liver produced a strong expression of mST3GaIV which was a quite similar to that of E13. In this stage, mST3GaIV mRNA was also expressed in some non-neural tissues. These data indicate that mST3GaIV is differently expressed at developmental stages of embryo, and this may be importantly related with regulation of organogenesis in mice.

S is called a ${\Gamma}$-semigroup if $a{\alpha}b{\in}S$, for all ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}$ and a, b ${\in}$ S and $(a{\alpha}b){\beta}c=a{\alpha}(b{\beta}c)$, for all a, b, c ${\in}$ S and for all ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ ${\in}$ ${\Gamma}$. An element $e{\in}S$ is said to be an ${\alpha}$-idempotent for some ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}$ if $e{\alpha}e$ = e. A ${\Gamma}$-semigroup S is called an E-inversive ${\Gamma}$-semigroup if for each $a{\in}S$ there exist $x{\in}S$ and ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}$ such that a${\alpha}$x is a ${\beta}$-idempotent for some ${\beta}{\in}{\Gamma}$. A ${\Gamma}$-semigroup is called a right E-${\Gamma}$-semigroup if for each ${\alpha}$-idempotent e and ${\beta}$-idempotent f, $e{\alpha}$ is a ${\beta}$-idempotent. In this paper we investigate different properties of E-inversive ${\Gamma}$-semigroup and right E-${\Gamma}$-semigroup.

  • Interface formation between $12CaO{\cdot}7Al_2O_3(C12A7:e^-)$ and Alq3 was investigated using in-situ ultra-violet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The work function and vacuum level shift of $C12A7:e^-$ were change by different surface treatment from 2.6eV to 4.2eV. Also vacuum level shift $(\Delta)$ at the interface were from +0.3eV to -0.3eV.

  • As fat consumption has increased in Korea , serum cholesterol concentrations have risen and the prevalence of atherosclerosis increased. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association among apolipoprotein E (Apo E) phenotypes, dietary fat consumption, plasma lipoprotein levels and fatty acid compositions of red blood cells in young healthy women. Seventy-one percent of participants had Apo E3/3, 14.9 percent had ApoE3/2 , 11.8% had Apo E4/3 and 1.2% had Apo E4.2. The subjects daily consumed approximately 1760kcal containing 29 energy % of fat. The ratio of polyunsaturated fat to saturated fat in a diet was 0. 73 . There were no significant differences of nutrient intakes according to Apo E phenotypes. Total cholesterol concentrations of subjects averaged approximately 160mg/dl , but 12 percent of them had over 200mg/dl, which is higher than the range recommended by the National Cholesterol Deucation Program. Notably, most subjects with 210mg/dl had Apo E4 isoforms. Subjects with Apo E4 isoforms had significantly higher total and LDL-cholesterol concentrations than those with Apo E3/2. Also subjects carrying Apo E4 isoforms tended to accumulated more fat in the body. Their BMI , WHR and arm fat area appeared to be how can arm fat area be greater no you mean grater, please check work vsage than subjects with Apo E3 isoforms, but not significantly. Fat intakes slightly influenced serum cholesterol levels. Myristic aicd intakes were positively correlated to serum total and LDL-choelsterol levels. Polyunsaturated fatty acid intakes were negatively correlated to serum total choelsterollevels. The results of 소냐 study suggest that , people with Apo E4 isoforms need to prevent the raising of serum total and LDL -cholesterol concentrations by reducing calorie and fat intakes and by maintaining a normal weight.

  • The L $i_{0.5}$F $e_{2.5-x}$A $l_{x}$ $O_4$ systems (x=0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5) were investigated by X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The structure of all the samples is cubic spinel type and lattice constant decrease with increasing Al content x. The Moissbauer spectra reveal two sextet for 0$\leq$x$\leq$0.6, two sextet and a doublet for 0.9$\leq$x$\leq$1.2, and a doublet for x=1.5. The cation distribution of the samples is (L $i_{1-a}$$^{+}$F $e_{a}$ $^{3+}$)$^{A}$[L $i_{a-0.5}$$^{+}$A $l_{2.5-a-x}$$^{+}$F $e_{2.5-a-x}$$^{3+}$]$^{B}$ $O_4$$^{2-}$ and substituted $Al^{3+}$ ions decrease the covalency of F $e^{3+}$- $O^{2-}$ bond in B-sites and A-B super-exchange interactions.tions.s.tions.ons.s.
