The aim of this study was to investigate experimentally the mechanical and histological effect of drilling process on the stability of micro-implant used for the orthodontic anchorage. For this purpose, 32 micro-implants(Osas$^{(R)}$, Epoch medical, ${\phi}$1.6 mm) were inserted into maxilla, mandible and palate in two beagle dogs. 16 micro-implants(8 per dog) were inserted after drilling with pilot drilling bur (drill method group). 16 micro-implants(8 per dog) were inserted without drilling (drill-free method group). After 1 week, micro-implants were loaded by means of Ni-Ti coil spring (Ni-Ti springs-extension$^{(R)}$, Ormco) with 200-300 gm force. Following 12 weeks, the micro-implants and the surrounding bone were removed. Before sacrifice, the mobilities were tested with Periotest$^{(R)}$(Siemens). Undecalcified serial sections with the long axis were made and the histologic evaluations were done. The results of this study were as follow ; 1. The osseointegration was found in both of drill-free method group and drill method group 2. Two of drill method group and one of drill-free method group in 32 micro-implants were lost after loading. 3. The mobilities of drill-free method group were less than drill method group 4. The bone contact on surface of micro-implants in drill-free method group was more than drill method group but there was no significant difference between groups. 5. The bone density in threads of micro-implants in drill-free method group was more than drill method group and there was significant difference between groups. These results suggest that drill-free method in insertion of micro-implants is superior to drill method on the stabilities, bone remodeling and osseointegrations under early loading.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the material for fixed type retainer, allowing physiologic tooth movement. and proper remodeling or periodontal tissue during retention period. The Present study was Performed to observe the histologic changes of periodontal tissue after application of different types of fixed type retainer after orthodontic tooth movement in young adult dogs. For this study, 4 young adult dogs were used as a experimental animal and experimental group was divided into three groups : experimental group 1 contained right side maxillayy third incisors and canines, experimental group 2 contained contralateral teeth of same animals, and control group contained mandibular premolars. And each dogs were applied the 4 different types of fixed type retainer to experimental group 1. The experimental teeth were ligated on the Sentalloy closed coil $spring^{\circledR}$(Tomy Co., Japan) from maxillary third incisors and canines and applied orthodontic force at initial 200gm-forced during 1 week. All the experimental animals were sacrificed on the 3rd week after the orthodontic teeth movement and then the specimens were taken, fixed in formalin, embeded in parafin, sectioned $6-8{\mu}m$ in thickness and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin staining, and Masson's trichrome staining method. Examined under the light microscopy The following results were observed. 1. There were observed that decreased infiltration of giant tells in pressure side and increased the new bone forming in tension side on the specimen of 6-stranded 0.0195' $Respond^{\circledR}$(G&H Co., U.S.A.) group. Periodontal ligament fibers were much compressed or elongated in 3-stranded 0.018', 0.020' $Dentaflex^{\circledR}$(Dentarum Co., Germany), and Superbond $C&B^{\circledR}$(Sun Medical Co., Japan) groups. 2. In experimental group 1, necrotic bone inside the alveolar bone of pressure side, forming of the sharpey's fiber in osteoid tissue, and remodeling of the periodontal ligament were observed in all animals. 3. In experimental group 2, it was observed that the amount of bone resorption was equal or decreased in pressure side, and increased new bone forming and significantly decreased infiltration of giant cell than the experimental group 1. By this results, it considered that 6-stranded $Respond^{\circledR}$(G&H Co., U.S.A.) wire was the most useful material allowing early periodontal tissue remodeling.
For orthodontic tooth movement, optimal orthodontic force should be maintained without periodontal breakdown and alveolar bone should be remodeled physiologically Therefore, To obtain proper occlusion through tooth movement within alveolar bone, we should know the biomechanics of teeth and supporting 4issues. The present study was performed to observe histologic changes of periodontal tissue immediately after application of orthodontic force and during the retention period in growing young adult dogs. In this study, experimental group contained between mandibular left canine and 1st molar and control group contained contralateral teeth of same animal. The .018'x.022' stainless steel closed coil spring(Dentaurum Co.) was ligated on the experimental teeth at initial 200gm-force from mandibular canine to 1st molar The animals(4 to 6 months aged young adult dogs) were sacrificed on 0, 14, 28 days after the finish of appliance activation, and then tissue samples were divided into hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining section, ground section, alkaline phosphatase(ALP) staining section, and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP) staining section. Thereafter, the preparations were examined under light microscopy The following results were obtained: 1. Immediately after the finish of appliance activation, the periodontal space was increased in tension side, but decreased in pressure side compared to that of control. The hyalinized zone was also observed in the periodontium. 2. After the 14-day retention, peridontal space was decreased in tension side and slightly increased in pressure side compared to that of immediately after the finish of appliance activation. The hyalinized zone was repaired and a few osteoblasts showing slightly new bone formation were seen. Osteoblasts were scarcely observed along the alveolar bone. 3. Aftter the 28-day retention, the periodontal fibers are normally repaired. A lot of TRAP(+) osteoclasts md increased alveolar bone resorption were observed in pressure side, and AP(+) osteoblast and increased new bone formation were observed in tension side.
The peripheral infection is one of the major causes of maternal death, and although it is preventable through an effective prenatal as well as postnatal care its morbidity is increasing due to bacterial resistant to an effective antibiotics. The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the peripheral morbidity of 949 parturients who were admitted to the Obstetrics and Gynecologic department of Ewha Woman's University Hospital from January 1971 to September 1971. Among the 949 parturients, especially 40 normal parturients were selected (20, control soup was given complete aseptic care during labor and delivery and post delivery: 20, compare group was given the ordinary care practiced during labor and delivery and maternal ward of Ewha Woman's University Hospital) for bacteriologic test on vaginal flora twice, on admission and on complete cervical dilatation of each parturient. The results obtained from this study were as follows; 1. Majority of parturients age were 21 to 35 years old(90.83%), and educational level of 949 parturients was above high school. A large number of parturients socioeconomic level (according to their husbands' job) were moderate. 2, Among the 949 parturients, multipara (55.9%) were a little more than primipara (44. 1%) and 38.84% of parturients had experienced aborition. 3. In deliverty types, normal deliveries (804 cases) were more than cesarean section deliveries (145 cases) The peripheral morbidity after normal deliveries was 0.5%, and cesarean section deliveries, 23.45%. 4. Among 949 parturients incidence of hemorrhage eases (500cc or more bleeding) showed the higher peripheral morbidity (24.86%) than other cases (bleeding less than 500cc, 7.83%). 5. The majority of parturients (81.03%) had teen taking antenatal care, but most of them were taken irregular antenatal care. On the other hand, on admission, the parturients with complication were 30.32%, and their peripheral morbidity showed much higher (7.02%) than those with no complication (2.71%). 6. The incidence of peripheral morbidity in premature ruptured membrane was higher (10.91%) than normal parturienta (1.73%). 7. In the result of aseptic care during labor and delivery and post delivery, the number of cultured bacteria was legs in control group than Compare group (in control group, on admission 17, on complete cervical dilatation 12: in compare group, on admission 21 on complete cervical dilatation 21) . The most common bacteria were Staphylococcus (control group 14 on admission, compare group 16 on admission), and next Streptococcus, E- Coil, Bacillus Subtilis, in order. Also in control group the number. of colony were reduced (43%) more than in Compare group. Transient temperature elevation from 37℃ to 37.4℃ were noted in compare group (50%) than in control group (30%), and there was no one indicated above 38℃. In conclusion, the aseptic care is the test way of preventing peripheral infection as well as decreasing the puerperal morbidity. Therefore the most important nursing care is the aseptic care for each parturient during labor and delivery and peat delivery and also all the instruments must be cleaned and sterilized.
Using the PCR(polymerase chain reaction method), gone 1 of phage K11 coding for K11 phage RNA polymerase has been cloned and expressed under the control of lac promoter. K11 phage RNA polymerase was conventionally purified through the DEAE-sephacel and Affigel blue column chromatographies. The 0.2-0.3 M $NH_4Cl$ fractions of DAEA-sephacel column chromatography showed K11 phage RNA polymerase activity and further purification with Affigel blue column chromatography showed nearly single protein band on SDS-polyacryl amide gel. K11 phage RNA polymerase, which is one of the T7 group phage RNA polymerase (E. coil phage T7, T3 and Salmonella tyhimurium phage SP6 RNA polymerase), shares high degrees of homology with the other T7 group phage RNA polymerase. Previously we constructed T7 and SP6 promoter variants and revealed promoter specificity of T7 and SP6 RNA polymerase (Lee and Kang, 1993). To investigate the promoter specificity of K11 RNA polymerase in vitro K11 promoter activity was measured with SP6 promoter variants. The SP6 promoter variant share highest degrees of sequence homology with K11 promoter sequence show strongest promoter activity.
For understanding physiological nature of phototaxis in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 PTX(S. 6803 PTX), we examined the effects of some metabolic inhibitors and cation ionophore on the phototactic movement. In the presence of DCMU, which blocks the photosynthetic electron transport just after photosystem II acceptor, there was no inhibitory effect on the phototaxis up to $100\;\mu\textrm{M}$. Instead, the respiratory electron chain inhibitor such as sodium azide dramatically impaired the phototaxis in S. 6803 PTX. These observations indicate that the phototaxis is linked not to photo-phosphorylation, but to respiratory phosphorylation. When the cells were treated with un couplers such as CCCP or DNP, which dissipate the electrochemical gradient of proton($\Delta\mu_{H}+$) across the cytoplasmic membrane, these chemicals did not affect phototaxis. In contrast, when cells were treated with DCCD or NBD which deprive cells of A TP but leave $\Delta\mu_{H}+$ intact across the membrane, the phototactic movement was severly reduced. These results imply that ATP production, not proton motive force, is involved in the phototactic movement in this organism as a driving motive force. The application of specific calcium ionophore A23187 strongly impaired positive phototaxis. Calcium fluxes should be engaged in the sensory trans-duction of phototactic orientation. Finally, when ethionine was supplimented to culture media, the photomovement of this organism was inhibited. This implies that methylation/demethylation mechanism controls the process of phototaxis in S. 6803 PTX like chemotaxis in E. coli and Salmonella typhimurium.murium.

The report explores the possibility that the single extract of natural substances and the mixture of single extracts of natural substances create a synergy effect to increase the antimicrobial activity. It also compares the previous researches to find out if the natural medicinal herbs’ extract has antimicrobial activity on dandruff causative organism, Malassezia furfur. For the experiment on the mixture of single extracts of natural substances, the results are like following: 1. Staphylococcus aures’s antibacterial activity is resistant to mixture of three natural substances. 2. Escherichia coil’s antibacterial activity is resistant to mixture with Coptidis rhizoma. 3. Candida albicans’ antifungal activity is resistant to mixture with Chinese galls, which means the different results may be expected when tested with each germ. 4. On the other hand, Malassezia furfur has no antifungal activity on the single extract of natural substances and shows weak antifungal activity, whose diameter is 3.20 mm when tested with the mixture of 50% of Coptidis rhizoma and 50% of Phytoncide. The result is totally different from the one on the same eumycetes, C. albicans. That is because M. furfur has more lipophilic chemicaled cell walls than C. albicans does and it also consists of lamella layer, inner plasma membrane and intermediate multiple layers.

To investigate mycorrhizal infection by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF), samples of fine lateral roots were taken from the wild ginseng(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) naturally growing at various locations in Korea. Mycorrhiazal infections were studied by cleaning the root samples and staining fungal hyphae with frypan blue. Wild ginsengs for this study were graded by an appraisal committee consisting of 12 experts of Korea Mountain Ginseng Association. Following five quality groups were recognized: Heaven group(pure natural), Earth group (from seeding of wild ginseng), Man group(from seeding or seedlings of wild ginseng with slight environmental modification), unmarketable, and imported wild ginseng. Morphology of AMF was typical Paris-type which shows intracellular hyphal coils with rare vesicles and lack of arbuscules. Average infection rate of individual wild ginsengs was 58.3% and showed no differences among five quality groups. When portions of fine roots were quantified for mycorrhizal infection, 18.7% of the total length of the primary and secondary roots were infected by AMF. Wild ginsengs from Gyeonggi Province(84.2%), and from mountains lower than 1,200 meters above sea level(about 70%) showed higher infection rate, while the ginseng from Gyeongbuk Province(27.8%) had lower rate. Wild ginsengs at older age showed lower infection rates.

Objective: Endovascular coil embolization is the primary treatment modality for intracranial aneurysms. However, its long-term durability remains of concern, with a considerable proportion of cases requiring aneurysm reopening and retreatment. Therefore, establishing optimal follow-up imaging protocols is necessary to ensure a durable occlusion. This study aimed to develop guidelines for follow-up imaging strategies after endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms. Methods: A committee comprising members of the Korean Neuroendovascular Society and other relevant societies was formed. A literature review and analyses of the major published guidelines were conducted to gather evidence. A panel of 40 experts convened to achieve a consensus on the recommendations using the modified Delphi method. Results: The panel members reached the following consensus: 1. Schedule the initial follow-up imaging within 3-6 months of treatment. 2. Noninvasive imaging modalities, such as three-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) or contrast-enhanced MRA, are alternatives to digital subtraction angiography (DSA) during the first follow-up. 3. Schedule mid-term follow-up imaging at 1, 2, 4, and 6 years after the initial treatment. 4. If noninvasive imaging reveals unstable changes in the treated aneurysms, DSA should be considered. 5. Consider late-term follow-up imaging every 3-5 years for lifelong monitoring of patients with unstable changes or at high risk of recurrence. Conclusions: The guidelines aim to provide physicians with the information to make informed decisions and provide patients with high-quality care. However, owing to a lack of specific recommendations and scientific data, these guidelines are based on expert consensus and should be considered in conjunction with individual patient characteristics and circumstances.
This paper described the extraction/purification of $\beta$-carotene from recombinant E.coli and evaluation of anti-wrinkle activity of purified $\beta$-carotene. No significant differences in extraction yields were observed when hexane or isobutyl acetate was used. However, extraction from wet-cell cake resulted in 2-fold higher amount of $\beta$-carotene than that from dry cells. Disruption of 5 g-wet cells by ultrasonic homogenizer, acetone dehydration, extraction with isobutyl acetate resulted in 36 mg of $\beta$-carotene corresponding to 61.2% of recovery. The formation and separation of $\beta$-carotene crystal improved the purity. 633 mg of $\beta$-carotene crystal with 93% purity was obtained from 223 g/L of wet-cell cake harvested from 2.5-L fed-batch culture broth. The cultures of normal human primary fibroblast were performed to investigate the effect of $\beta$-carotene on cytotoxicity as MTT assay and anti-wrinkle activity as collagen synthesis assays. $1.7{\mu}M$ of $\beta$-carotene was found to be optimal concentration at which 1.4-fold higher amount of collagen was synthesized than that in absence of $\beta$-carotene. This indicates that highly purified $\beta$-carotene can be obtained from recombinant E.coli by applying simple method with less toxic solvent and can be used in functional cosmetics as anti-wrinkle agent.
