  • In this paper, a compact partial H-plane filter with periodic structure is proposed. Guided wavelength of periodic structure' is reduced by slow wave effect. Cross-section and length of partial H-plane filter with periodic structure are considerably reduced by 75% and 30%, respectively, as compared with conventional E-plane filter. In addition, spurious responses of the bandpass filter are improved. To design bandpass filter with periodic structure, we have analyzed a periodic structure of partial H-plane waveguide and derived equations of the periodic filter. Measured results are in good agreement with simulated results.

  • A new CAD program for double E-plane bandpass filters is developed based on the variational analysis method and the passband correction method combined with the synthesis procedures. By taking the widths of three narrow waveguide equally, we can design bandpass filters with best stopband characteristics.

  • In this paper, a low-loss wideband waveguide transducer is proposed for millimeter-wave communication and radar applications. A conventional E-plane probe transducer is generally designed using thin and flexible substrate at millimeter-wave frequencies, considering the very small waveguide size. However, it results in serious performance degradation caused by the bending of the substrate. In order to alleviate this problem and provide a reliable performance, we propose an extended E-plane probe transducer where the probe substrate is extended to and fix ed in the slit area formed in the waveguide wall. It is fabricated using $127{\mu}m$-thick substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2. The measurement in the back-to-hack configuration shows the excellent insertion loss of 1.35 dB (${\pm}0.35dB$) including the loss of 3 cm-long thru waveguide and return loss better than 13.8 dB over entire W-band (75-110 GHz). Therefore, it can be effectively applied for millimeter-wave high-speed communications and high-sensitivity radars.

  • In this paper, an E-patch antenna on the U-shaped ground plane is designed and experimental studied. In order to reduce to cross-polarization level and to enhance the gain of the microstrip patch antenna, a U-shaped ground plane is employed in the microstrip patch antenna. As a main radiator, an E-shaped patch is used to reduce the antenna size as small as possible. Also to enhance the bandwidth of the antenna, a substrate of the lowest permittivity of which thickness as thick as possible is used and a rectangular patch is overlaid on the air substrate of the E-shaped patch antenna. The radiation characteristics of the antenna are calculated by CST Microwave Studio 5.0 simulation software. Experimental results show that by increasing the height of the sidewall of the ground plane, the antenna gain is increased and the cross-polarization level is decreased.

  • A magnetic spectrometer was designed for out-of-plane coincidence (e, e' P) measurements in electron scattering. The spectrometer consists of four magnetic spectrometers with different polar angles about the symmetric axis in the scattering plane. The performance of the machine was optimized for the precision measurements of nucleons and few-body nuclei. This paper presents the ion-optical design and measured performance of one spectrometer which was constructed as a prototype.

  • In this paper, an AccessPoint compact microstrip patch antenna was designed by using L-shaped feeding structure of a Fractal Structure and the compact antenna can be obtained by the rare formed presence of the resonance flow which is called "Crossed-Diagonal". CST's MicroWave5.0 was used for the design. As the operating characteristics of the patch antenna, it showed the characteristic of 1031 [MHz] or 29.4% in the range of 3.202 [GHz] ~ 4.233 [GHz] when an input return loss is less -10 [dB] and VSWR 2:1, also as it is in this paper, we got simulation results such as, gains of the E-plane and H-plane are 8.7 [dBi] and 8.6 [dBi] for this is the single patch, and 3 [dB] beamwidth is $43.9^{\circ}$ at E-plane and $78.7^{\circ}$ at H-plane.

  • Current seismic codes (e.g. the NTC08 Italian code and the EC8 European code) adopt a performance-based approach for both the design of new buildings and the assessment of existing ones. Different limit states are considered by verifying structural members as well as non structural elements and facilities which have generally been neglected in practice. The key role of non structural elements on building performance has been shown by recent earthquakes (e.g. L'Aquila 2009) where, due to the extensive damage suffered by infills, partitions and ceilings, a lot of private and public buildings became unusable with consequent significant socio-economic effects. Furthermore, the collapse of infill panels, particularly in the case of out-of-plane failure, represented a serious source of risk to life safety. This paper puts forward an infill model capable of accounting for the effects arising from prior in-plane damage on the out-of-plane capacity of infill panels. It permits an assessment of the seismic performance of existing RC buildings with reference to both structural and non structural elements, as well as of their mutual interaction. The model is applied to a building type with RC framed structure designed only to vertical loads and representative of typical Italian buildings. The influence of infill on building performance and the role of the out-of-plane response on structural response are also discussed.

  • In this paper, we use the characteristics of electromagnetic waves underwater attenuation for estimating linear distance between a transmitting node and receiving node, and research underwater vertical plane attenuation model for constructing the underwater localization system. The underwater localization of 2 dimensional with the plane attenuation model in the horizontal plane (H-plane) was proposed previous research. But for the 3 dimensional underwater localization, the additional vertical plane (E-plane) model should be considered. Because the horizontal plane of omnidirectional antenna has the same attenuation tendency in x-y plane according to the distance, whereas in vertical plane shows an irregular pattern in x-z plane. For that reason, in the vertical plane environment, the attenuation should be changed by the position and inclination. Hence, in this paper the distance and angle between transmitting and receiving node are defined using spherical coordinate system and derive an antenna gain pattern using half power beam width (HPBW). The HPBW is called a term which defines antenna's performance between isotropic and other antennas. This paper derives omnidirectional antenna's maximum gain and attenuation pattern model and define vertical plane's gain pattern model using HPBW. Finally, experimental verifications for the proposed underwater vertical plane's attenuation model was executed.

  • In this paper we present an approximation method of quadric surface using quartic spline. Our method is based on the approximation of quadratic rational B$\acute{e}$zier patch using quartic B$\acute{e}$zier patch. We show that our approximation method yields $G^1$ (tangent plane) continuous quartic spline surface. We illustrate our results by the approximation of helicoid-like surface.

  • Waveguide bandpass filters using E-plane or H-plane discontinuities have been used in many satellite communication systems. Since the transmitter and receiver of such systems tend to be getting smaller, components such as bandpass filters must also be reduced in size. In this paper, in order to reduce the waveguide, itself, of which bandpass filters consist, double plane step waveguide discontinuities are considered. They are analyzed using the mode matching method and the genralized scattering parameter of the cascaded structure is calculated. The characteristics of the bandpass filter which is designed using the reduced size waveguide is optimized by OSA90$^{TM}$. The bandpass filter has a good characteristics and smaller size than those made of the E-plane or H-plane step discontinuities.s.
