Because the physical properties can be decreased when a Nylon 66/glass fiber composite is injected into a mold over $300^{\circ}C$, a systematic study of the thermal history in the case of re-use is needed. Nylon 66/glass fiber extrudates as a function of the extrusion number were prepared using a twin screw extruder at 305/290/273/268/265/$260^{\circ}C$. The chemical structure, thermal properties, melt index, crystal structure, Izod impact strength, and rheological properties were measured by Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR), melt indexer, DSC, TGA, XRD, Izod impact tester, and dynamic rheometer. The FT-IR spectra indicated that the number of extrusions did not affect the chemical structure. The decrease in molecular weight with increasing extrusion number was confirmed by the melt index and the complex viscosity of extrudates. Based on the DSC and TGA results, the thermal history had no effect on the melting temperature, regardless of the number of extrusions, but the degradation temperature decreased up to $20^{\circ}C$ with increasing extrusion number. The Izod impact strengths of the extrudates were found to decrease with increasing extrusion number. No structural change after extrusion was also confirmed because there was no change in the slope and shape of the G'-G" plot.

This study developed a solar radiation reflection pavement, so called a cool pavement, to lessen the urban heat island effect by coating a pavement surface with acrylic resins mixed with light-colored pigments. From a laboratory test, simulating solar heating process in pavements, the cool pavement reduced more than $12^{\circ}C$ of pavement temperature at $60^{\circ}C$ compared to a control porous pavement. With the increase of the mixing ratio of the pigments to acrylic resins, the temperature reduction effect increased, but its workability became worse due to higher viscosity. As a result, an appropriate mixing ratio was determined as 15%. The cool pavement had better durability than the control pavement: One quarter of Catabro loss and twofold dynamic stability. Its adhesion was also higher enough not to be debonded under traffic loading. In-situ noise and friction tests conducted in two field sites showed that the cool pavement reduced its noise level by 3.7dB in average and increased its friction level by 30% compared to the control pavement. The permeability of the cool pavement was little lower than the control pavement, but higher enough to satisfy the minimum requirement for porous pavements.

Multiple debris flows occurred on July 27, 2012 in Mt. Umyeon, which resulted in 16 casualties and severe property demage. Accurate reproducing of the propagation and deposition of debris flow is essential for mitigating these disasters. Through applying FLO-2D model to these debris flows and comparing the results with field observations, we seek to evaluate the performance of the model and to analyse the rheological model parameters. Representative yield stress and dynamic viscosity back-calculated for the debris flows in the northern side of Mt. Umyeon are 1022 Pa and 652 $Pa{\cdot}s$, respectively. Numerical results obtained using these parameters reveal that deposition areas of debris flows in Raemian and Shindong-A regions are well reproduced in 63-85% agreement with the field observations. However, the propagation velocities of the flows are significantly underestimated, which is attributable to the inherent limitations of the model that can't take the entrainment of bed material and surface water into account. The debris flow deposition computed in Hyeongchon region where the entrainment is not significant appears to be in very good agreement with the field observation. The sensitivity study of the numerical results on model parameters shows that both sediment volume concentration and roughness coefficient significantly affect the flow thickness and velocity, which underscores the importance of careful selection of these model parameters in FLO-2D modeling.

The supercritical fluids (SCFs) have been widely used for material synthesis and processing due to their remarkable properties including low viscosity, high diffusivity and low surface tension. Carbon dioxide is one of the suitable solvents in SCFs processes in terms of its advantages such as easy processibility (with low critical temperature and pressure), inexpensive, nonflammable, nontoxic, and readily available. However, it has generally low solubility for high molecular weight polymers with the exception of fluoropolymers and siloxane polymers. Therefore, hydrocarbon solvents and hydrochlorofluorocarbons have been used for various SCFs process by its high solubility for high molecular weight polymers. In this report, a PMMA/clay nanocomposites were fabricated by using supercritical fluid process. The $Na^+$-MMT(montmorillonites)was modified by a fluorinated surfactant which is able to enhance compatibility with the chlorodifluoromethane(HCFC-22) and thus, improve dispersability of the clay in the polymer matrix. The PMMA/fluorinated surfactant modified clay nanocomposite shows enhanced mechanical and thermal properties which characterized by X-raydiffraction(XRD), Thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA), Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
2 Components polyurethane coatings are widely used for the industrial coating in general because of its excellent film performance and the workability which were brought by the 3 dimensional cross linked chain structures being formed after the reaction between polyol and polyisocyanate. 2 components polyurethane can be classified into alkyd polyol, polyester polyol, acrylic polyol and polyester modified acrylic polyol depending on where it is used. This research was conducted under the conditions below; different chemical compositions of resin for paint, set the same conditions of viscosity, thinner and acid value, set alternative polyols, OH values and catalysts, set alternative polyisocyanate hardeners of the paint, measure the reaction rates and dynamic mechanical characteristics using RPT-3000, Rotation Rheometer, DMA and FTIR. The research found that the reactivity between polyol and isocyanate influences the film performance and workability depending on the catalysts, OH values and chemical compositions. We find out that different reaction rate of acrylic polyol and polyester modified acrylic polyol with poly-isocyanate is not influenced on temperature and catalyst. In addition, reaction speed of high hydroxyl content polyol is faster than low hydroxyl equivalent. These results can improve difficult working condition to apply urethane coating.

Cryogenic spray characteristics of a nitrogen swirl injector operating in supercritical environment have been numerically investigated. By comparing the equation of states(EOS) used for supercritical condition, SRK EOS was applied to predict the nitrogen thermodynamic property under supercritical environment. A Chung's method was implemented for the calculation of viscosity and conductivity and Takahashi's correlation based on Fuller's Theorem was implemented for the calculation of diffusion coefficient. By injecting the nitrogen with 5 bar differential pressure into 50 bar chamber filled with nitrogen, numerical simulation has been conducted. The dynamic Smagorinsky sub-grid scale (SGS) model has been compared with the algebraic Smagorinsky SGS model using FFT frequency analysis. The instability at the liquid film and gas core inside injector and the propagation of pressure oscillation into the injector has been investigated. The spreading angle of swirl injector obtained by numerical calculation has been validated with experimental result.
Maleic anhydride (MAH) grafted polypropylenes (PP) (MAH-g-PP) were prepared by changing MAH content and styrene monomer (SM)/MAH mole ratio with different type PP, using a twin screw extruder. The types of PP were isotatic PP (iPP), block PP (bPP), and random PP (rPP) and dicumyl peroxide (DCP) was used as an initiator. The graft degree of MAH was confirmed by the existence of carbonyl group (C=O) stretching peak at $3100cm^{-1}$ of FTIR spectrum. Thermal properties of MAH-g-PP and PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites were investigated by DSC and TGA. There was no district change in thermal properties of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites. Based on tensile properties and SEM pictures for fractured surface of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites, MAH-g-rPP was the best as the compatibilizer and optimum formulation was MAH content of 1.0 wt%, SM/MAH mole ratio of 1.0, and melt index (MI) of 25 g/10 min. The rheological properties of the composites were investigated by a dynamic rheometer. The complex viscosity, shear thinning effect, and water uptake incresed with pulp content.
We made 8 wt% silica dispersion system with fumed silica and photo curable acrylic monomer by beads mill process. These dispersions could be applied in organic/inorganic hybrid coating systems. These dispersions could be applied in organic/inorganic hybrid coating systems. The 4 species of photo curable acrylic monomer which was presence of hydroxyl group, different solubility parameter, and different molecular size were used in the silica dispersions. Stability of polar solvent, isopropyl alcohol, in silica dispersions was investigated. We investigated the stability of silica dispersions by using steady-state and dynamic rheology. As the monomer has hydroxyl group increased in mono and binary monomer silica dispersions, they showed non flocculated stable sol (loss modulus (G")> storage modulus (G')). When polar solvent IPA was added into slightly flocculated silica dispersions, they changed to non flocculated stable sol.
It is widely known that pulsed magnetic field (PMF) is very useful tool to manipulate chemical and physiological processes in human body. The purpose of our study is to observe dynamics of rouleaux patterns of red blood cells (RBC) under PMF. The aggregation of RBCs or rouleaux formation is caused by fibrinogen in blood plasma. The maximum magnetic field intensity is 0.27 T and pulse time of 0.102 msec and pulse repetition rate was 1 Hz. PMF stimulus was applied to the palm of left hand for 5, 10, 15 and 20 min. Live blood analysis was used in vitro in order to quantitatively estimate the velocity of RBC exposed to PMF stimulus. The velocity of stacked-RBC of 10 minute PMF stimulus was increased up to $8{\times}10^{-4}m/sec$, but it decreased rapidly as the time passed. The results of present study have adduced that PMF stimulus on hand provide the improvement of RBC rouleaux formation, increase of RBC's moving velocity as well as low blood viscosity.
Modified polypropylene (m-PP) was fabricated by furfuryl sulphide (FS) as branching agent and m-PP/nano-filler composites were prepared with silicate and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), using a twin screw extruder. The chemical structures and thermal properties of the m-PP were investigated by FTIR and DSC. The chemical structure of the m-PP was confirmed by the existence of =C-H stretching peak of the branching agent at 3100 $cm^{-1}$. There was no district change in melting temperature in case of m-PP, but a certain increase in crystallization temperature was notified and the increase was in the range of $10-20^{\circ}C$. The rheological properties, filler dispersion and foaming behaviors of the m-PP/nano-filler composites were investigated by dynamic rheometer, X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning/transmission electron microscope (SEM/TEM). m-PP/nano-filler composites showed a high complex viscosity at a low frequency, an increase in melt elasticity, and a high shear thinning effect. Compared to pure PP, m-PP and m-PP/nano-filler composites were sufficient to enhance the foaming behavior.
