Comparison of results from two different methods of soil-structure dynamic interaction analysis is presented. Two methods include transfromed static and seismic response analyes. In seismic response analysis, the difference in result of total stress analysis relative to effective stress analysis is investigated.
The ratcheting and strain cyclic behaviour of joined conical-cylindrical shells under uniaxial strain controlled, uniaxial and multiaxial stress controlled cyclic loading are investigated in the paper. The elasto-plastic deformation of the structure is simulated using Chaboche non-linear kinematic hardening model in finite element package ANSYS 13.0. The stress-strain response near the joint of conical and cylindrical shell portions is discussed in detail. The effects of strain amplitude, mean stress, stress amplitude and temperature on ratcheting are investigated. Under strain symmetric cycling, the stress amplitude increases with the increase in imposed strain amplitude. Under imposed uniaxial/multiaxial stress cycling, ratcheting strain increases with the increasing mean/amplitude values of stress and temperature. The abrupt change in geometry at the joint results in local plastic deformation inducing large strain variations in the vicinity of the joint. The forcing frequency corresponding to peak axial ratcheting strain amplitude is significantly smaller than the frequency of first linear elastic axial vibration mode. The strains predicted from quasi static analysis are significantly smaller as compared to the peak strains from dynamic analysis.
Considering the effect of dynamic response amplification, a reliability analysis of an offshore wind turbine support structure under an earthquake is presented. A reliability analysis based on the dynamic response requires a large amount of time when using not only a level 3 approach but also level 2 such as a first order reliability method (FORM). Moreover, if a limit state is defined by using the maximum stress at a structural joint where stress concentration occurs, a three-dimensional element should be used in the finite element analysis. This makes the computational load much heavier. To deal with this kind of problem, two techniques are suggested in this paper. One is the application of a quasi-static structural analysis that takes the dynamic amplification effect into account. The other is the use of a stress concentration factor to estimate the maximum local stress. The proposed reliability analysis is performed using a level 2 FORM and verified using a level 3 simulation approach.
It has been well known that ductile fracture of steel is accelerated by triaxiality stresses. The characteristics of ductile crack initiation in steels are evaluate quantitatively using two-parameter criterion based on equivalent plastic strain and stress triaxiality. Recently, the characteristics of critical crack initiation of steels are quantitatively estimated using the two-parameter, that is, equivalent plastic strain and stress triaxiality, criterion. This study is paid to the fundamental clarification of the effect of geometrical heterogeneity and strength mismatching, which can elevate plastic constraint due to heterogeneous plastic straining, and loading rate on critical condition to initiate ductile crack using two-parameter. Then, the crack initiation testing were conducted under static and dynamic loading. To evaluate the stress/strain state in the specimens especially under dynamic loading, thermal elastic-plastic dynamic FE-analysis considering the temperature rise was used. The result showed that the critical global strain to initiate ductile fracture in specimens with strength mismatch under various loading rate cu be estimated based on the local criterion, that is two-parameter criterion obtained on homogeneous specimens under static tension, by mean of FE-analysis taken into account accurately both strength mismatch and dynamic loading effects on stress/strain behavior.

The failure of blades frequently happened in the 300MW LP turbine until now and they are maintaining the blades periodically during outage. So the blade-disk system is analysed by FEM in order to identify the main cause of failure of blade row. It is found that the stress of root's hole is highest in comparison with other parts from the result of the steady stress analysis. Also, the two dangerous frequencies which is related to the resonance condition are found in the interference diagram. one is 1,516 Hz which is related to the operating speed. The other is 2,981 Hz which is related to the 1 nozzle passing frequency. The dynamic stress analysis is per-formed to identify more accurate root cause for failure of blade row. It is confirmed that the dynamic stress of the latter is higher than one of the former. From these results, it is concluded that the former has deeply something to do with the failure of blades more than the latter. Based on versatile investigation and deliberation, the change of blade's grouping is determined to avoid the resonance condition with the operating speed. After the blade grouping is changed, the former frequency vanish completely but the latter is still in existence in the interference diagram. Fortunately, It is confirmed that the dynamic stress of the new blade grouping is lower than one of the old blade grouping. 2 years has passed since modification and the LP turbine is operated well without failure so far.

Dynamic deformation behavior under the high strain rate loading condition obtained with the aid of Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique is simulated by DYNA2D (an hydrodynamic code). A constitutive equation such as Johnson-Cook model is used by adjusting various parameters to fit experimentally determined dynamic stress-strain relationship.

The dynamic photoelasticity with the aid of Cranz-Shardin type high speed camera system is utilized to record the dynamically propagating behavior of the interface crack. This paper investigates the effects of the stiffness of interface defect(exist along the path of the crack propagation) on the dynamic interface crack propagation behavior by comparing the experimental isochromatic fringes to the theoretical stress fields.
