  • Proposed Manta-type Unmanned Undersea Vehicle(UUV) turned out to have the tendency of dynamic instability in vertical plane, and moreover to have that of so strong dynamic stability in horizontal plane as to cause another problem in turning motion due to negative value of sway damping lever. The authors discussed the changes in appendage design for improvement of dynamic stability of UUV in vertical and horizontal planes. As a result, the dynamic stability in vertical plane was improved by increasing the area of horizontal stern planes. and the dynamic stability in horizontal plane was also improved by removal of lower vertical plate and by adjusting the area and position of upper vertical plate simultaneously.

  • This study is carried out to estimate the influence of cutting speed on the dynamic stability of a drilling machine. The theoretical stabilityu chart is constructed by using the measurd dynamic characteristics of the drilling machine. The critical cutting width and speed predicted from the stability chart show excellent agreements with those measured. Therefore it is confirmed that the analysis technique used in this study is useful for the prediction of the dynamic instability and improvement of the dynamic characteristics of drilling machines.

  • Background: The multiple hop test is an active performance test that has been commonly used to assess individuals with functional ankle instability. Previous studies have suggested that insufficiency of dynamic postural stability and passive stability during dynamic activities can have an influence on performance in the multiple hop test. However, no study has investigated the effects of dynamic postural stability training and ankle bracing on multiple hop test performance in individuals with functional ankle instability. Objects: The purpose of this study was to compare the immediate effects of dynamic postural stability training versus ankle bracing in the performance of the multiple hop test for participants with functional ankle instability. Methods: Twenty-nine participants with functional ankle instability who scored below 24 in the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool were selected. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: a dynamic postural stability training group (n1=14) and an ankle bracing control group ($n_2=15$). The multiple hop tests were performed before and after applying each intervention. Dynamic postural stability training was performed using visual-feedback-based balance-training equipment; participants in this group were asked to perform a heel raise in a standing position while watching the centering of their forefoot pressure to prevent excessive ankle inversion. Ankle bracing was applied in the control group. Results: When comparing the pre- and post-intervention period for both groups, both methods significantly improved the results of the multiple hop test (p<.05). However, no significant differences were shown between the dynamic postural stability training and ankle bracing groups (p>.05). Conclusion: Both dynamic postural stability training and ankle bracing showed significant improvement (2.85 seconds and 2.05 seconds, respectively) in test performance. Further study is needed to determine the long-term effects of dynamic postural stability training and to determine whether insufficient dynamic postural stability is a causative factor for functional ankle instability.

  • In order to improve the instability of Plane journal bearing, it is introduced the leaf spring damper(LSD). The effects of dynamic characteristics of LSD on the stability of a plane journal bearing were investigated theoretically. The improvements on the stability of a plane journal bearing with LSD. are compared with the results of a floating ring journal bearing and of journal bearing without LSD. It found that a plane journal bearing with LSD will be an effective way in the improvement on the stability of rotor system.

  • This study suggests a dynamic braking control algorithm in order to improve the transient stability of a multimachine power system. Dynamic braking control has been known as an effective method by which transient stability of power systems could be improved. Under the context, the study suggests a modified MRVM which possibly handles more rapid on-line computation through the improvement of the conventional MRVM(Model Referenced Velocity Matching). In order to resolve the phenomenon of stability recovery hinderance due to the prolonged dynamic braking control under the stable equilibrium state and chattering problem, the study also composes an algorithm in such a way that dynamic braking control could be prohibited by setting-up absolute stability region, Lastly, a comparison with the results derived from the application of the conventional control technique to the model power system is made in order to prove the superiority of the suggested control technique.

  • The current article deals with the dynamic stability, and structural improvement of vibrating electrically curved screen on the viscoelastic substrate. By considering optimum value for radius curvature of the electrically curved screen, the structure improvement of the system occurs. For modeling the electrically system, the Maxwell's' equation is developed. Hertz contact model in employed to obtain contact forces between impactor and structure. Moreover, variational methods and nonlinear von Kármán model are used to derive boundary conditions (BCs) and nonlinear governing equations of the vibrating electrically curved screen. Galerkin and Multiple scales solution approach are coupled to solve the nonlinear set of governing equations of the vibrating electrically curved screen. Along with the analytical solution, 3D finite element simulation via ABAQUS package is provided with the aid of a FE package for simulating the current system's response. The results are categorized in 3 different sections. First, effects of geometrical and material parameters on the vibrational performance and stability of the curves panel. Second, physical properties of the impactor are taken in to account and their effect on the absorbed energy and velocity profile of the impactor are presented. Finally, effect of the radius and initial velocity on the mode shapes of the current structure is demonstrated.

  • Vehicle stability is a very important subject in vehicle design and control, because vehicle safety is closely dependent upon its dynamic stability. The control logic for four-wheel steering(4WS) systems, in which maintaining at least the specified stability region is the control objective, was constructed using the simplified vehicle model of 3 degree-of-freedoms. The improvement of vehicle stability was verified through computer simulations for the slalom and the double lane change maneuver using the multi-body dynamic model in MSC.ADAMS.

  • An important issue in the design of soil-nailing systems, as long-term retaining walls, is to assess their stability during seismic events. As such, this study is aimed at simulating the dynamic behavior and failure pattern of nailed structures using two series of numerical analyses, namely dynamic time history and pseudo-static. These numerical simulations are performed using the Finite Difference Method (FDM). In order to consider the actual response of a soil-nailed structure, nonlinear soil behaviour, soil-structure interaction effects, bending resistance of structural elements and construction sequences have been considered in the analyses. The obtained results revealed the efficiency of both analysis methods in simulating the seismic failure mechanism. The predicted failure pattern consists of two sliding blocks enclosed by three slip surfaces, whereby the bottom nails act as anchors and the other nails hold a semi-rigid soil mass. Moreover, it was realized that an increase in the length of the lowest nails is the most effective method to improve seismic stability of soil-nailed structures. Therefore, it is recommended to first estimate the nails pattern for static condition with the minimum required static safety factor. Then, the required seismic stability can be obtained through an increase in the length of the lowest nails. Moreover, placement of additional long nails among lowest nails in existing nailed structures can be considered as a simple retrofitting technique in seismic prone areas.
